A friend of mine told me he heard about or saw something on an animated Forgotten Realms movie. Is he mistakin, full of it, or is there really one in the works?

Well, I see nothing on it at IMDB.com -- and they usually have stuff up once it's known to exist, or not long thereafter. So I'd say it's a rumor, unless it's something that just got decided in the last couple weeks.

Your friend may have simply confused the details about the upcoming DRAGONLANCE animated film -- Dragons of Autumn Twilight (http://www.dragonlance-movie.com/).

I have no objections.

I wonder how much it would cost for the rights to a movie, animated or otherwise for FR.

I think the main deterrent would be that they'd have to pay Ed or Keith Baker if they made a movie set in their world (assumption, I don't know the details of their ownerships).

Course, if this is true, I'd think it's a faulty assumption, since going generic = crappy movie in terms of revenue (see the D&D movie), so it'd be better to pay Ed/Keith 20% (or whatever) and actually produce something that's buzz-worthy and raises the D&D image.

I wouldn't mind a well made animated feature, in some ways that might even be better. They would save tons of money on special effects, which would raise profits and the chance for sequels. Also, we would get great voice-overs, rather then crummy acting (like before). Having well-known people do voice-overs is far cheaper AND has the benefit of added believability (well-known actors tend to take the 'wonder' element out of fantasy).

Just my :twocents:

@LK - NO!!! Not the Ebil movie thread. I'm fairly certain that thing sucked up a few brain cells of mine.

;) :D

Hey, there was that old animated skit somebody did a while back. IIRC, it was fan-made, although IMO it turned out pretty good. It was B&W only, and covered a short little battle between Drizzt and Co. vs. Jarlaxle, Artemis IIRC, and some thugs. I couldn't begin to tell you where to find it, but someone here'll probably know.

I have looked into the dragonlance film before, and he might have been talking about that.
As for the fan made FR movie I have that somewhere.

-I have a slow modem, so I didn't even bother watching the video, but I know that there is a Dragonlance Comic Book series that is pretty well drawn, if you want more. I don't think it's a continual series. I believe that, like the Realms comics, they are only adapting certain novels. But still, you know...

I never pictured Jaraxle as a mariachi before.
It's better then I can do, so it's pretty good (well, besides the hat;) )

Yeah, he actually reminds me of a mix between a mariachi and the final samurai boss in the anime show "Samurai Champloo."

I love the way this guy had the drow creatively use their darkness SLA to make it appear like they teleported in through black holes.

Its an adaptation of the original trilogy. However, I would say the art is below average. Not nearly as good as Tim Seeley's work on the Drizzt adaptations.

Hmm. I just had an idea about Drizzt. Why not pick up some african actors, NOT afro american. Some of them are total black, and skinny. I remember seeing an african warrior in a documentary once, holding a spear in one hand and an assault rifle in the other (yup, two weapon fighting), approaching the documentary crew. He was totally naked, and the filming crew were scared ******** - they actually ran away when they saw him. If that isn't a dark elf (except for the naked) I don't know what is.

Anyway. Awsome voice actors. I'm a bit dissapointed with the choices for Caramon and Tanis, but that's because I don't know the actors. They seem to have a lot of experience.

P.S : I saw the short FR movie after I wrote this. Amazing atmosphere and animation. I didn't like the way many of the characters were drawn, but still. Also, Jarlaxle has many hats, and changes styles all the time, according to what I remember.

-It isn't. Black actors wouldn't pull off Dark Elves correctly, simply because the anatomy between Elves and Humans differs so much. Look at the pictures in the PHB, concerning Elven stature and Human stature. That's why the Elves in Lord of the Rings, for the most part, just looked like Humans with pointy ears.

There was a choose your own adventure DVD; Scourge of Worlds or something like that. It was animated.

Of course, Tolkien's Elves didn't look like D&D Elves. Among other things, they were actually usually taller than humans, rather than shorter.

Actually, now that I think about it, aside from the most basic archetypes/stereotypes, theres not much similarity between Tolkien's Elves and D&D Elves.

-No, but the Lord of the Rings movies are the only films I can think of that have Elves that actually look decent. I think there might have been an Elf in the D&D movie? I don't know...My mind blocks out all of those traumatic moments...

-Truthfully, I don't remember. I do remember, though, that the Dwarf was the same size as the Elf, and the Humans. Odd...
