| ziller09-02-03, 08:28 AM | I'm just getting back into d&d, after, well, a long time, and i'm tryin to get caught up on the different versions. i remeber the basic, and expert books, which were different then the advanced d&d rules. is ad&d still different then d&d? i just picked up the 3.5 version books, along with the forgotten realms setting. do these work together? are they considered ad&d, or just d&d, and is there a difference anymore? thanks... |
| Cunning Linguist09-02-03, 08:41 AM | wow, you been gone a long time. The 3.ed Forgotten Realms CS works with 3.5 rulebooks. There is no more AD&D, that was 2.ed, and long gone now. The 3.5 rulebooks are a updated ver. of 3.ed rulebooks, they came a few years back, and replaced 2.ed AD&D. |
| ziller09-02-03, 09:06 AM | great, thanks. guess i've got the right books then. yea, i was really into it in the early 80's, but haven't played much since then... |

This will get you a flavor for what is fundamentally different. The original D&D set you a a set progression to eventual godhood. Modern D&D doesn't promise you anything but increased risk and reward, but godhood is not at all the end result. Enjoy the message boards. They are full of awesome advise and insight into a very dynamic game setting. |

| ziller09-03-03, 07:11 AM | yea, i'll definetly check out this forum and the realms books... good way to get up to speed... any suggestions on a good first realms novel? alot certainly has changed, for the better i think... the whole die roll system seems more logical and easier... and the skill thing is cool. and for AC, the HIGHER the better, i like that. yea, i'll probably have more questions.... thanks. |
| Triton09-03-03, 08:15 AM | The Summoning and the rest of the Archwizard series is all 3e and starts out with low level difficulty and expands to epic. Drizzt series are all awesome and run the gambit of experience. The Best of the Realms due out soon is suppose to be "the best", so it sould be "the best". Dungeon and Dragon Magazines are always great sources of advise and adventures for a new or brain locked gamer. |
