differences with Avatar Series 1989 vs 2003 [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-09-05, 02:32 PM Not sure this is the right forum but I have a question about some FR novels.

I had started reading the Avatar Series (the original books from 1989) last year and wasn't aware there is another version from 2003.

The first publication was a triology (Shadowdale, Tantras, Waterdeep) by Richard Awlinson in 1989. The new books have the same titles different but different authors and published in 2003.

Anyone know what's the difference between the old and new?

08-09-05, 02:46 PM I recall to having read that Richard Awlinson was a speudonyme for 3 autors (I don't recall their name). Maybe they have decided to reprint the books under their proper name?

Yup. Richard Awlinson was a pen name. All-in-one, basically. :) So the reprints have the real names of the authors. Other then that, there is no difference except for the new covers as well.

08-14-05, 03:43 PM The Avatar Trilogy has five books, sort of like the Hitchhiker's Trilogy. But really you only need to read three: Waterdeep, Prince of Lies, and Crucible.

08-14-05, 06:12 PM actually, Prince of Lies and Crucible are the add ons, and, of the ones you listed, only Waterdeep is part of the actual trilogy.
