| Ivy07-08-03, 09:47 PM | I've been digging through some older Realms stuff lately and reading about the wizard Yeven (of Yeven's Pool fame). I was kind of intrigued, and was able to unearth the following... Yeven's spirit resided at Yeven's Pool during the Time of Troubles (Azuth was there, too). [FRE2 Tantras] A holy relic of Azuth was brought to Yeven's Shrine in Sembia. [Prayers from the Faithful] So now I'm really curious: who is this Yeven and what is his relationship with Azuth? Is anyone aware of any other information about Yeven? Thanks for your help! :) |
| Ivy07-09-03, 01:19 PM | Ummm....I'll take that as a no? ;) Lashan? Faraer? Anyone? |
| Faraer07-09-03, 05:47 PM | I don't recall any more info on Yeven himself, except we know the pool bore his name around the time of Myth Drannor's fall (Cormanthyr). There are a few more references to the Pool, including Volo's Guide to Cormyr, and the sword Ilbratha wasn't found there (FR4). |
| Ivy07-09-03, 08:03 PM | Thanks, Faraer, I'd missed the Ilbratha reference. But I'm not seeing anything in VGtC. Were you referring to his guide to the Dales? |
| Faraer07-10-03, 01:47 PM | Yes, Dalelands. No one post while you're stupid. Any particular thing about Yeven you're interested in? |
| Ivy07-10-03, 10:19 PM | Nothing in particular. I just hadn't given much thought to the Pool itself until I noticed Yeven's Shrine on a map, and then found the references in Prayers from the Faithful and Tantras, which seem to indicate that Yeven may have some sort of relevance to Azuth or Azuth's faith. I guess I was just curious to see if there was any more backstory that I had missed. I might have a closer look at Secrets of the Magister, which I've only ever skimmed though. It seems as likely a place as any to dig up some dirt! (Though I presume you have read it and note you didn't include it in your reply.) By the way, Faraer, I've noticed your often quick (and comprehensive!) responses to a number of Realmslore questions...Do you keep a database of all things FR (as I do), or do you just have a really good memory? :) |
| Faraer07-11-03, 02:51 PM | I don't remember Yeven in Secrets of the Magister, but it's possible. Great sourcebook, everyone! Pity the ESD (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=1595&) is one of the later bitmap-scan over invisible real text ones. Between knowing where stuff is pretty well (better than I know what it is), limited indexes, Acrobat's index function, and reading REALMS-L and knowing what to search for in its archives, I can answer a lot of queries pretty quickly. I'm not a real Realms scholar, having only read FR11 a few times... |

| Lashan07-12-03, 10:13 AM | Sorry for the delay. I've been away from the boards lately due to limited internet access at work. I have gotten around the problem, though, and should at least poke my head in. Umm...I think I remember reading stuff about Yeven. I don't recall any particular favored status with a diety. Now, I don't have my reference material with me. I have a couple of mages in mind, but I am not sure if they are correct. I was thinking of one, but that is the mage Ashaba. He's the one who was a "water" mage who turned into a sentient puddle of water and merged with the river that now bears his name. Now, Yeven makes me think of the guy who made all the magic rings. There was a mage who made 7 or so magic rings. Those rings are detailed in "Volo's Guide To All Things Magical". The zhent spy Whisper was suppose to have a few of those rings in his possession. This ring guy was a poweful mage who fought with the Cult of the Dragon on the shores of the Ashaba River. He used one ring to turn into a pillar of flame and finally broke the Cult forces at that battle. The problem was that he disappeared after that battle, along with his rings. I can't recall if that guy is Yeven or someone else. I'm at work and if I had my books in front of me, then I would be able to double-check it. It seems to me that Volo's Guide to the Dalelands says something about the Pool of Yeven. I could be wrong, but I kinda recall that reference guide having some info. Sorry if I am not much help. |
| tauster07-12-03, 11:36 AM | @lashan i think that guy was called mzenthul ore someting alike, but i´m not sure. |
| Lashan07-12-03, 11:38 AM | Yeah, that sounds about right. I didn't think it was Yeven. Curses! I am at work and not near my material! |
| Ivy07-12-03, 01:40 PM | Originally posted by Lashan The mage Ashaba [was] the one who was a "water" mage who turned into a sentient puddle of water and merged with the river that now bears his name. Interestingly enough, Ashaba is mentioned in the same encounter area of FRE2 Tantras as Yeven is. I forget the exact details, but it seems to me like it was suggesting that Ashaba could rise up and defend the river much like Yeven could defend the pool. |
