It doesn't state anything about having to see somantic, verbal or material components. By this it would appear that at least characters trained in spellcraft can tell when a spell was cast upon them. What about everyone else? This came up over the weekend when a character was having some kind of suggestion spell cast upon them via a spell like ability. He kept saving, and this demon thing kept casting every round. To avoid a deep search, the DM stopped the activity by the demon, and the PC escaped this near death experience... if he'd failed he wouldn't have lived as no one knew where he was in town. If possible, could you include reference page #'s to documents that support your position. I read (as stated above) in the rules that someone skilled in spellcraft KNOWS when "something" has occurred. For standard characters: Ref - Obviously you know when this occurs, as the character is dodging something. Will - A "tug" or "push" upon someone's mind. Fort - Toughy, you can't normally feel yourself "getting" sick. To avoid the confusion of determining when someone wouldn't know, it would be assumed that a character always knows. |
| ClobberinTime07-03-06, 09:53 PM | Don't unconscious characters automatically fail saving throws, like will saving throws? I think that the character knows something is happening and needs to actively resist. Some of the FR novels have great descriptions of this, i.e. he felt his body being torn apart, but forced it to stay together, etc... The only time you don't know you have made a saving throw is when you fail it, i.e. if you find yourself walking through the green fields of elysium, do not be troubled for you are already dead, Or to a charm, boy she is pretty, let me clamor all over myself to serve her. or Boy that vat of acid sure didn't look delicious a few minutes ago, but it sure seems refreshing now! |
