| createvmind12-17-05, 10:09 AM | Does anyone recall any mention of the book of names being mentioned in a Faerun/Toril setting or any connecting plane? Does anyone have it's original powers statted? For those who don't know, it's an Artifact that contains the names of ALL living creatures and grants the owner some power over them. |
| Kes Alanadel12-17-05, 10:31 AM | I remember seeing something about this just a couple of days ago......but in what source I don't remember at this hour of the day. :( As soon as the fog lifts a bit from my mind (meaning I need more coffee ;) ), I'll see if I can track it down. ~Kes |

| createvmind12-17-05, 08:03 PM | Thanks Kuje, do you recall what powers the book had over the person named, curse or boon? |

If it does exist in the Realms, it'll be under Oghma's control-see page 53 of Faiths and Pantheons, and I can't find a reference for this in Faiths and Avatars. Thanks Kuje, do you recall what powers the book had over the person named, curse or boon? Kuje's talking about a name generation program...not an artifact. |

Does anyone have it's original powers statted? For those who don't know, it's an Artifact that contains the names of ALL living creatures and grants the owner some power over them. Where was this particular artifact first mentioned? Off the top of my head, I can think of two similar items: The 'Mors Mysterium Nominum' - a massive tome of infinite pages that contains the names of every Tanar'ri in current or prior existance, plus their true names and methods to call and bind them. According to rumor it also contains ciphered or hidden pages that detail methods to call Abyssal Lords, and possibly even their true names. The 'Book of Keeping' - a similar book that contains methods of calling and binding Yugoloths, along with massive listings of the true names of powerful greater yugoloths. The 'loths hunt down and destroy any known copies they become aware of, and as of current only several incomplete copies and one full copy are known to still be extant on the planes. Though of note, the book makes no mention of the Baernaloths, the original NE fiend race that created the yugoloths. The complete copy is in the possession of the Shator gehreleth/demodand known as Xideious, who is working to expand the book at the behest of his deity Apomps the Triple Aspected (an exiled Baernaloth). |
