Fenrisulven 11-09-05, 12:51 AM	I'm designing a Temple for Tiamat, very large to accomodate Wyrms. Quick question: Is it rational to assume that a dragon's wingspan (total width tip to tip) is the same as the creatures length in the MM? If not, what proportion is reasonable?
Cainan 11-09-05, 12:57 AM	Most dragons, at great wyrm stage have a wingspan just a tad bit shorter than their length. This can vary with some dragons, like golds who have incredibly long tails, but for most dragons it seems to be about the same for full length and wingspan.

jedorian 11-09-05, 01:11 AM	You can find some very indepth information on dragons in the Draconomicon. There are tables in the very beginning of the book that gives the Max and Min wingspans for dragons by their size. You need to make to temple large enough to accomodate a dragon with a wingspan of 150ft., this being the largest wingspan of the chromatic variety (red). Reds also have a length of 120ft. and a standing height of 22ft. They weigh over 1million pounds. :D I highly suggest this book if you want to use dragons in your campaign. There is a wealth of knowledge in there. Many nifty things for our scaly winged friends.

Gray Richardson 11-14-05, 11:23 PM	Just like humans keep their umbrellas folded up while indoors, I think that so too would dragons keep their wings compacted while inside. You would not need a room to accomodate a 150 foot wingspan, unless it was open to the sky and was intended as some kind of take-off and landing hangar. Dragons really only need as much room as their "space" to be comfortable, and even then they only require that much room for fighting. When moving about they can do just fine in even smaller areas.

Araciel 11-16-05, 01:30 PM	There was a box set in second edition called "The Council of Wyrms". In it they have an Aerie that holds all types of dragons, including caves and hatcheries. This box set has the Aerie measuring over 10,000 FT x 15,000 FT. Since you'll only be needing something for chromatic dragons then you could easily scale this down to 1/3rd of this size. Keep in mind that the dragons will need take-off and landing platforms as well audience chambers with enough space to hold many dragons and quarters for resident "priests".
