| Darth_Incognito3010-24-06, 04:50 AM | What do you guys think about the new movie about Drizzt Do'Urden Trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of Rings Trilogy). I do feel that Peter Jackson will able create a living, realisic fantasy world of Forgotten Realms. and I wish that R.A. Salvatore will proceed creating another story about the assassin, Artemis Entreri. Artemis Entreri Trilogy. So i ask you guys. what do you think about my idea? Cheers |
| Gemcaster10-24-06, 07:56 AM | I hope they are not serious about wesley snipes otherwise I will kill him myself. although it has been like 5 years since they said about this. |
| Errean10-24-06, 08:30 AM | What do you guys think about the new movie about Drizzt Do'Urden Trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of Rings Trilogy). Salvatore will proceed creating another story about the assassin, Artemis Entreri. Artemis Entreri Trilogy. So i ask you guys. what do you think about my idea? Cheers Drizzt movie: Cool idea but not going to happen anytime soon. The "success" of the two Dungeons and Dragons movie still needs to blow over (the first one made me want to puke, the second I refuse to see). Peter Jackson: Not only will he not do it, you really wouldn't want him to. Sure, if he loved the books and wanted to make it, he could make a great world and now has the backing to make it all happen but then you'd just have a Peter Jackson movie. You won't have a Drizzt movie. Main thing though, Jackson won't do it. Too much on his plate with Halo and the Hobbit to even think about anything else for a while. My take on it, unless they get some great screenwriter/director team and are willing to let a non-African American person to play Drizzt (sorry if I offend anyone with that. It's not racist, it's just that Drizzt isn't African American, he's not even human. They need someone that LOOKS like a drow, whatever that is), I don't want to see it made. They're good books but if they make a bad movie, that just ruins it for everyone. |
| Garidas10-24-06, 08:56 AM | Well, if there is going to make a movie, it may not (NOT!!) be this "ahh, I read the book, maybe I change the story a bit." cause it is known that directors change little details from the book, make a new character or something. Now lets everybody shoud to the world "WE WANT FORGOTTEN REALMS MOVIES!!! and not the horrible D&D movies, real Forgotten Realms movies." You agree?, -Garidas |
| Errean10-24-06, 09:33 AM | I agree that I want a good movie made out of anything that I enjoy. I also, however, understand that screenwriters and directors WILL take liberties, leave things out, change scenes and generally screw around with the story. Purist will never be pleased with the adapations of any book they've read, into any other genre. Once again, though, I agree that whoever was in charge of the D&D movies... Man, seriously, why? Those were SOOOO bad. I hated them and I liked the movie Dragonslayer! Please don't make a third, for the love of God! |

| kronos45110-24-06, 01:34 PM | C.G. Drizzt wouldnt be a bad idea but it would take ten years before we seen anything!! |
| Jiggawha10-24-06, 01:55 PM | Drizzt Do'Urden and Artemis Entreri what a movie would that be (sarcasm) yup its true... so i think its better that Drizzt Trilogy movie be made from computer like "Final Fantasy: Advent Children".... then it would be easy to make Drow and very similar to books.... and i would really kill somebody who make the movie and take some the lines of the books out. but i wonder if japanese people loves the forgotten realms books. if they do, then it would maybe already out... I think we need a series (a long epic story) in Advent Children style animation, this would extremely popularize FR |
| Mad Mage10-24-06, 10:32 PM | Funny, I have yet to hear any news of a Drizzt Do'Urden movie. Any recent sources say so? |
| Garidas10-25-06, 03:51 AM | Google is my friend: http://www.gamingreport.com/article.php?sid=857 It is a movie coming, but it is a couple of years of waiting. "Yes, we get a movie, we get a movie!!!" -Garidas |
| Garidas10-25-06, 10:25 AM | Sorry, that info is 5 years old!!! No movie??? :weep: There is one thing I wonder about, why the f*** hasn't a movie been published, that happens in the FR, it is probably the most known fantasy world in all the world (Tellus or Earth ;) )? -Garidas |
| Jiggawha10-25-06, 11:35 AM | Dreamworks will release Blades of Glory (though it's not about Drizzt it's about figure skating  ) Tough there will be some fantasy films soon: Beowulf (Zemeckis, Jolie - villain) Ancanar (probably, Middlearth related) Eragon (December) Hobbit (2009 or 2010) and I've heard that Jackson will shoot some film about Napoleon's army against dragons |
| Red_Wizard10-25-06, 11:47 AM | I swear if that movie had come out with Wesley Snipes as Drizzt, and Lawrence Fishburne as Jarlaxle, i would have gone Time of Troubles on all involved with it. :P *shivers in disgust*, well despite previous statements i have made in the past on wanting a movie for the Realms, i would rather watch hours on end of "Barney in NewYork", while trying to remove my own eyes with a cottonball, Then ever bear witness to such a blasphemous act as that... |
| Lord Karsus10-25-06, 12:40 PM | I swear if that movie had come out with Wesley Snipes as Drizzt, and Lawrence Fishburne as Jarlaxle, i would have gone Time of Troubles on all involved with it. :P -Well, Wesley Snipes is currently in trouble with the IRS, so he's not going to be making any movies once he returns to the country. Never mess with the IRS- they catch everyone. -And anyway, that link has very old information. Hopefully, such a movie will never be produced, now or in the future. |
| Garidas10-25-06, 01:14 PM | Your right about Wesley Snipes, he is in trouble somewhere in Africa. I also have worries if that movie will be realesed, my worries is about the skin color, it will probably be like Wesley Snipe's skin, now a real drow, BLACK SKIN!!! -Garidas |
| CzarGarrett10-25-06, 01:56 PM | I hope to any and all Gods out there, that Jackson has nothing to do with any book based movie ever again. |
| Brenigin10-26-06, 01:37 AM | Peter Jackson is producing Halo, making the Lovely Bones, making the Hobbit maybe, and remaking The Dambusters. If he's doing Drizzt, it'll be in about 2016. |
| Errean10-26-06, 10:06 AM | I HAD heard about three years ago about a Forgotten Realms TV show for Sci-Fi channel. And after just searching Google myself, I turned this up: http://www.gamingreport.com/article.php?sid=7514 Looks like and motion picture/tv series is out of the question, at least for the moment. Although, I'd probably hate the show more, seeing as it would have had a Zena/Hercules level budget. God, anyone ever see the Mortal Kombat TV show? D&D animated show anyone? Yeah, that kind of stuff. |
| Aratharn10-26-06, 10:58 AM | sounds crap, i would only watch something like this if it has a big budget AND good actors |
| Mad Mage10-27-06, 06:08 PM | No offense anybody, but that whole Drizzt movie thing sounds more like a rumor than a news report. If it came from something like MSN's movie page at least, I'd believe it. |
| Lord Karsus10-30-06, 08:39 PM | -I think that we have all thoroughly debunked it. |
| Crust10-31-06, 07:56 PM | I'm hoping that the Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight animated film coming next fall will open the door for other D&D-based setting projects. FR really should be a household name. What with the :censored: , the comic books, the miniatures, the video games, there's bound to be something around the corner (within the next ten years) in the form of either TV or film. It's inevitable. |
| Bladesong10-31-06, 08:30 PM | Oh God... please... please no... |
| Zsych11-01-06, 04:37 AM | I prefer well made cartoons to movies... they cost less, and can contain more detail(by virtue of the increased length you can afford). I'd love to see something kinda like the old D&D cartoons, set in FR(and planned to last 5-6 seasons so that the characters can drag themselves to epicness in that time :))... then start a new series :) --- As for a movie by the LotR guy. You don't want high end graphics, scenery and such in the Drizzt movies. Drizzt isn't really an epic character, and a movie on him should focus on his interaction with people and his life experiences, not the beautiful landscape he happens to be walking in. |
| BiteSizedDragonSnack11-01-06, 07:04 AM | Wesly Snipes as Drizzt. . . :gah: :hides: I'd love to see an animated FR series. Doesn't even have to star Drizzt. Maybe something following a small group of adventurers as they become local heroes, then legendary heros. Cameos could be made by famous (or imfamous) FR characters. I'd be up early on a Saturday morning to watch it. |
| Gemcaster11-01-06, 07:15 AM | Hmn never thought of a cartoon, it might be pretty good if the did it in the same vein as avatar, i.e. violent combat, mature & immature subjects, romance, hate, genocide, death, rebirth. If they make a good job of it and dont get to into D&D stuff too quickly it could turn out to be the best cartoon on tv. Sadly it will be severly unlikely  |
| White_Wizard11-01-06, 08:59 AM | I think animated series would be best: Drizzt's stories involve a great deal of action in subterranean enviroment, which would be darn difficult to represent in a live movie (or even a CG movie), plus the entire Drizzt's saga is structured as a series, so not even a movie trilogy (let alone a single movie) would ever be enough to cover it sufficiently. Animation instead offers the possibility of representing underground (I remember the he-man animated series (both the old and the new one), which included a lot of subterranean action) enviroment with satisfying color and detail and to realize even the most fantastic creature with very little effort. |
| kronos45111-01-06, 09:17 AM | I miss the old heman:weep: |
| Crust11-01-06, 09:35 AM | Wesley Snipes. I think he's great in the Blade movies, but as Drizzt? I'd have a hard time accepting that. If Brandon Lee were still alive, I think we'd already have a Drizzt movie. |
| Bladesong11-01-06, 09:56 AM | I think it's a bit ironic and inevitably disastrous to cast an African American as a drow. The inevitable "drow=evil and so African American=evil" connection will be made by less educated people and those individuals who so badly want it to be true. |
| Red_Wizard11-01-06, 09:59 AM | -And anyway, that link has very old information. Hopefully, such a movie will never be produced, now or in the future. Yeah, i know, thoughtim surprised i never heard any of that then. There have been many rumors over many years of drizzt, elminster, and just FR shows being picked up by networks, only to be dropped right away before filming begins. Though i'm still happy looking back that that movie was never made. I hope to any and all Gods out there, that Jackson has nothing to do with any book based movie ever again. Why??? is it because of the varied liberties he took differing the movie from the book??? |
| Lord Karsus11-01-06, 10:16 AM | Why??? is it because of the varied liberties he took differing the movie from the book??? -How can you not have Tom Bombadil!? |
| Bladesong11-01-06, 10:49 AM | For that matter, leaving the Dunedain out of the movie, and the elves out of the Battle of the Black Gates. The Galadhrim at the Hornburg was pretty cool though. |
| Red_Wizard11-01-06, 02:41 PM | -How can you not have Tom Bombadil!? Yes, it sucked, and i thuroughly looked forward to him being there, but more than 70% of people who saw the movies, had never read the LOTR, some probably never will, or only will because they enjoyed the movies (to which they will always think the movies better than the novels) so for flow, and what was nessasary, things had to be cut. I mean, i dont like alot of what was changed for TTT, but in the end, it was infinatly shorter than it could have been, and there were still many complainers who said it was to long, or they didn't understand the simplified version of one thing or another. Those movies are amazing in every regard, and i think the best thing to have happened to tolkiens work, since he himself wrote it. Personally, if i had it my way, Peter Jackson would be the only one allowed to touch a full length fantasy film, especially one to do with the forgotten realms. (There are other good films of similar style out there, so im sure he could find invaluable help to make it different enough from the LOTR, to sate the nay-sayers.) Any issues people have with the films, can easily be explained away by the sheer volumn of inept fans who would never have sat through a complete accounting of the true works of tolkien... |
| CzarGarrett11-01-06, 02:57 PM | As movies, the LotR by Jackson was good. As adaptation of the books, they were attrocious. So much necessary stuff missing, so much completely new stuff added. Varied liberties? Thats like having Ben-Hur remade in claymation using Ford Explorers. As Snipes as Drizz't? I can' see it. Drizz't always struck me as being much skinner than Snipes. Less muscle, more lithe. |
| Mirtek11-01-06, 03:37 PM | I think the closest to a D&D movie we will get any time soon is Midnight (http://www.midnight-film.com/). No huge budget, but it looks nice and it's based on the Midnight D20 Setting (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/midnight.html) |
| Zsych11-02-06, 05:48 AM | I don't think that the LotR movies focussed too much on the characters. With a movie about Drizzt, and early Drizzt at that. You'd be more interested in his life experiences, and his growth as a character than the special effects. Focussing on cool backgrounds, instead of let's say, the coolness of his fight with Zaknafein, would be just tragic. (I wonder whether people would really have liked LotR, without the backgrounds though. If I ignore them, the movies don't really look all that interesting, and the characters seem quite boring.. but then LotR's main characters, especially Frodo were...) |
| Lord Karsus11-02-06, 09:29 AM | -That's why you need to strike a balance between the two. Lean too heavily to either side, and it's no good. |
| White_Wizard11-02-06, 09:46 AM | -How can you not have Tom Bombadil!? Well, I agree 99% with you about Jackson's LotR. That 1% I disagree with is Tom Bombadil himself. Basically he is an error in Tolkien's story (forgive me, John! I'm a mudworm! :humble: ) because he is what is called Deus ex Machina, or an external intervention to save a situation the main character cannot surpass with their own forces. In a Book like LotR that can be proper because of his inner meanings, but in a movie (and a movie that so badly aimed to banalyzation) it couldn't find any place (and so it can happen that Aragorn had by chance 4 spare short sword to give to the hobbits  ). BTW I would see a Drizzt animated series as a filler of those narrative spaces left obscure (like many of the adventures Drizzt may have had during his first years on surface -Sojourn has huge gaps in this sense since it covers a 5 or 7 years span if I remember correctly). Also something from his 10 years alone in the Underdark can come out (with flashback episodes -like Drizzt speaking of his past, or an old enemy met at that time that comes back with a vengeance). After the Halfling's Gem we have a nearly day by day knowledge of Drizzt's life. Another part with adventures we don't know is that between Siege of Darkness and Passage to Dawn, which could be much more interesting because it would involve traveling and seeing new lands every episode. Yeah, now that I think of it, maybe this last idea could make a great animated series. |
| Zsych11-03-06, 12:57 AM | We should message Mr. Salvatore(assuming he's over at candlekeep), and demand that he force WotC to get a cartoon done(and give him royalties in the process :)) |
| Lord Karsus11-03-06, 12:57 PM | We should message Mr. Salvatore(assuming he's over at candlekeep), and demand that he force WotC to get a cartoon done(and give him royalties in the process :)) -He doesn't really wield that kind of power. |
| Zsych11-04-06, 03:55 AM | Just needs to approach it right. Besides, his fans will support his demand :) the Drizzt stories seem to have brought a fair number of people to FR. If he writes a decent cartoon adaptation(could just use the comics)... all WotC has to do is sell the idea to one of many companies out there. (or send it to Japan and have them make an anime out of it.. then again, I don't want to see Drizzt in an anime dark-elf form... something will have to be done to insure that character designs turn out decent) |
| CriminalTruth11-13-06, 03:09 AM | I've seen both D&D movies.. the first one blew so freaking bad that they had to make the second one in britian.. however i do feel the story for the second movie was accually quite good. they had alot of cool things in it and it accually wasnt half bad for the budget they used... HOWEVER; there were some concerns i had with the movie... like... a white dragon in a temperate climate? a random litch in a forest? of course little things erked me.. they litterally made it D&D only.. they kinda let the audiance in on what everything was ( like the gem of true seeing.. the fighter in the group just happends to know what it is.. and it's convienently found in the eye socked of a skull??? )... but they did at least make the movie right.. if you watch all the bounus footage on the dvd ( i rented from blockbuster) they made all the actors read PHB's !! ha ha.. so yea if they ever DO make a FR movie i swear i hope they take the mentality that D&D players know what is what in the world... If they do that i could see everyone who plays D&D wanting to see the movie hardcore ... and i do believe there are enough players to warrent such a movie... Just look at starwars.... 30 years later they write the first 3 books for movies .. and its a sell out. |
| Ramenth11-13-06, 09:07 PM | I'd say that a TV show or a series of some sort would be better suited to the Forgotten Realms, and then you can make a dritzz movie later. Or, better yet, make a movie of The Last Mythal or the Shade War. That decidedly lacks Drizzt! :D |
| GothicDan11-13-06, 10:58 PM | Or perhaps a different trilogy/book series! |
| TenTownsmen12-23-06, 02:47 PM | I think if the people developing a movie based on R.A. Salvatore's Drizzt books used the process that Sin City or the new 300 are using, it could turn out really well. Frank Miller is getting really involved in screen writing, and with Salvatore's help, they could create a really decent screenplay. It may not be dark enough of a story for Robert Rodriguez to direct, but he would do a excellent job. Even though theres a lot of criticism about Peter Jackson on this forum, if he was as interested in the books as he was about the Rings books, and King Kong, he could easily bring the books into a masterpiece of film. But hey, this is only my opinion. |
| Voldar_Mecorthio12-23-06, 06:21 PM | Fortunitly for the fantasy community, Peter Jackson has his hands full. I don't want him near any huge-book based series ever again. (the way he massacred LotR is inexcusable. Granted he did a great job with the content he did use, but over half of the book was torn out!) If they do make a Drizzt movie, why dont they just use MAKEUP for a drow? Black facepaint and white hair dye would work perfectly... |
| The_Shaman12-23-06, 07:50 PM | Hey, look at it on the bright side. If Jackson made a movie about drow, he might, er, cut Drizzt out ;) Seriously, I'd like to see a decent D&D movie, but Drizzt isn't my favourite character. |
| Diffan12-24-06, 01:30 AM | Ok, alot of things to discuss here, so I'll just start it off with good ol' Mr. Jackson. First, I think he did a really good job with the movie, considering he tore out half of the books and it was still a 4 hour + long movie. Tom bombadil was annoying and I'm glad he wasn't in the film. As for Jackson's next projects, he said he will not do any more of tolkien's films, past or future. As for the movie 'Halo', it's been put on hold, indefinitly. ***** Next, while I do cringe at the 1st Dungeon's and Dragons movie, the second was better in almost every department, except for maybe the CGI, and I'm extreamly hopeful about the animated Dragonlance movie coming out soon. It will go straight to DVD, which might be better than the big screen. As for the movie 'Eragon', it was really well made. My wife read the book first, and after seeing the movie, said that alot was changed, but if it was based exactly as the book was written it would be somewhere around 6 hours long and extreamly boring at some parts. So she said the movie was better. ***** Finally, I would like to see a Drizzt movie, but only if it was done correctly. I know they'll take liberities (as they did with the comics) but those were done extreamly well with RA's approval, and that gives me hope for a movie, for it gives them a good story board to start off with. If it's animated, all the better because SOO many things can be done with art and cartoons that it would look amazing at half the cost. All CGI wouldn't be all that bad, for example the Dungeons & Dragons: Scourge of Worlds interactive DVD they came out with a few years ago. It was interesting and the over all effect was pretty good. The fact that it was interactive was somewhat silly, mainly because I picked the wrong path and the whole party was killed multipul times, but the thought was there. If something like that was done along those lines for a Forgotten Realms movie, it would have a lot of success. If it was done in live action, I would no further than the best asian martial arts expert and hope his accent isn't too bad. It's been written that people of the Shou empire, the unapprochable east, and the tuigan people look like elves but without the ears. Add that with some black makeup and a white wig, and you have Drow. I hope for a day that they do come out with a FR movie, but I don't see that day fast approaching. |
| CainJustice12-24-06, 01:44 AM | btw the second D&D movie is WAY better than the first.... also... i would think it would be cool if there was a Anime style FR movie...maybe something like "ninja scroll" style with the great animations and awesome story line... but as for a drizz't movie? probably won't happen....and if it does...it would probably be crappy like the first D&D movie.... |
| Walls12-24-06, 11:32 AM | Dragonlance cartoon?! SAY WHAAAAAAAAAA? |
| Diffan12-24-06, 12:44 PM | Dragonlance cartoon?! SAY WHAAAAAAAAAA? They're coming out with an animated movie of Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Hopefully the 1st in a long line of animated movies. Keifer Sutherland is doing the voice of Raistlin, Lucy Lawless (Xena) is doing the voice of Goldmoon, and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor from smallville) as the voice of Tanis, Half-elven. I'm not sure who's doing the voices of the other characters, but it looks as though they're putting alot of time and money into the production. I can't wait! :) |
| Dark_beebles12-25-06, 02:36 AM | Hmm if they had Keanu Reeves as Artemis Entrei then i would watch it just to see of they made him say "whoa" or "dude" lol (jking). As much as i like FR novels and reading the source books and playing. I hope they never come out with another movie, I am a fan of all movies, but some things just shouldnt be done. If you guys like Lord of the rings the movies or the books, I would read Raymond E. Fiest's Books. There are about 20 total he has published. at the start of the book the main character is around 12 yrs old. The last book i finished he is around 200 years old...if you guys think FR mages are powerful read about this wizard (He tore a memory from the lost god of magic). But its worth a read imo, and He isnt even done yet, I know he is publishing 2-3 more books. And i would recommend reading from the 1st book...if you start anywhere else..too much info wont be there to make any sense..would be like watching Return of the King without knowing anything about the other movies or the books..wouldnt make much sense. |
| Harrowdroth12-25-06, 03:52 AM | Hmm if they had Keanu Reeves as Artemis Entrei Actualy He might make a good drizzt.... lol To a Forgotton realms movie, I'd say: NOOOOOOOO!! To a Forgotton realms mmo (I'd want World of Warcraft style gameplay, with first person option and Graphics on par with Elderscrolls: Oblivion.): I'd SCREAM "YESSSSS!!" and slam down 50$ for it on opening day. Because Blizzard has actualy Done a really good job on WoW, I'd like to see what they could do with forgotten realms... and some less cartoony games... |

Ah yes, the Rift war saga. Very good series, I liked it a lot. I haven't read it in a while and I only read the 1st trilogy but it was well written and it's plot/story line was extreamly interesting. |

You have to read more of them man its all i can say...and I hope you enjoy the Characters in the book Nakor, Jimmy the hand, And arrakasi(specially those of you who like Jarlaxle and artemis). My favorite quote in all of the books tho is this "You cant be serious, that girl as the High Prietess of the Good Goddess!?" Nakor replies "That girl!?! You just said she was a avatar of goddess a few moments ago" :D Far as the cartoon and movie go i still think it would be a bad idea, Unless a perfect team of people came together. And they keep the same actors for Artemis, Jarlaxle, and Drizzt's and the companions of the Hall. Because nothing is more lame imo then watching a movie then, having a differant actor/actress play the same character. |
| The_Shaman12-29-06, 07:48 AM | An animated fantasy movie (anime or disney-style) could work out, definitely. I'm not a hardcore anime fanboy, but I have a huge soft spot for Record of Lodoss War and Slayers. |
| Seans12-29-06, 12:37 PM | You know a movie would be great, but I would like to see a video game and, as mentioned before, it would be ok with me to see a movie produced quite like the Final Fantasy movies. Who would you guys like to see play Dritzz? There are some black models that might do the job, but I don't think they're as black as I think the Drow are when I read the book. |
| GothicDan12-29-06, 01:10 PM | I felt the Eragon movie was mostly terrible, other than the baby dragon being ridiculously cute. My sister said the first book was even worse... And if they make an FR anime, I will burn random things to the ground. I'm hoping the Dragonlance cartoon is good. |

The Eragon movie was awful, and sadly I was hoping that a few fantasy movies were going to be done well. Oh well! |
| Alurvelve12-29-06, 02:28 PM | Guess I'm not as strong of a critic as yall. I actually liked the Eragon movie. I thought the movie was pretty good. |
| Seans12-29-06, 02:31 PM | Guess I'm not as strong of a critic as yall. I actually liked the Eragon movie. I thought the movie was pretty good. It wasn't that it was a bad as much as it was a bit of an odd adaptation of the book! I enjoyed the book, so I think I had a "higher" hopes for the movie. |
| GothicDan12-29-06, 03:07 PM | The movie felt like someone had run/played in a few too many really non-creative D&D games... Though the guy who played Eragon himself was surprisingly adequate as an actor. |
| XunValDorl of HouseKilsek12-31-06, 01:40 AM | For god sakes not Wesley snipes. Wesley snipes is not a small and graceful figure. His facial structure, his movements, his voice, his build is not even close to that of a drow. If you want a good person to play Drizzt or even Artemis you need Ray Park. Hell an asian martial artist would be better. Someone with a good upward slant in the eyes, graceful and with a small but ripped martial arts build. He doesn't have to be a well known actor, just a good one. |

(only char in the whole 1-3 that was worth anything). |
| Diffan12-31-06, 12:29 PM | How tall is Ray Park, becaue if I'm not mistaken, Drizzt is only 5'4". It would seem wierd if Drizzt was taller than Cattie-Brie or even Wulfgar, for that matter. And as for Artemis, I still say Edward Norton. |
| Alurvelve12-31-06, 02:49 PM | I know park is smaller than Jackie Chan, but I am not sure of his height. |
| texasisfunny12-31-06, 03:39 PM | Eragon was a disapointment indeed. It seemed as if the movie was extremely rushed, i mean an "epic" fantasy movie that clocked in at an hour and a half... honestly wtf. I wouldn't mind seeing a FR cartoon movie made by Hayao Miyazaki I think he did a wonderful job on Princess Mononoke back in the late 90's. I think however an adaptation movie using Drizzt or any of the main FR characters would be a mistake because they could never do it in away that would make people happy. |
| Spec_Specter01-01-07, 04:03 PM | I fail to see how a tiny asian martial artist would be nessisary for eather of them if they get a movie it's a movie, not a live action deminstration casting an actor for this role would be more about apearence then skill what do you think people would complain about more that the charicters didn't look right, or that the fighting wasn't acurate? odds are, no one will really notice the fight sences just as long as they are there ;>.> |
| XunValDorl of HouseKilsek01-01-07, 11:25 PM | How tall is Ray Park, becaue if I'm not mistaken, Drizzt is only 5'4". Man look at how tall Wesley Snipes is. |
| Azar_of_Faerun01-02-07, 12:35 AM | To whoever suggested an FR MMORPG: No no no no! |
| Diffan01-02-07, 11:56 AM | You are worried about how tall Ray Park is? Man look at how tall Wesley Snipes is. I have no idea on both accounts. But it would still seem silly for him to be the tallest person in the party, espically taller than the huge barbarian. To whoever suggested an FR MMORPG: No no no no! Isn't Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 both MMORPG's? |
| GothicDan01-02-07, 12:12 PM | I don't know if they're considered 'mass.' |
| Spec_Specter01-02-07, 12:40 PM | Isn't Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 both MMORPG's? keep in mind that MMORPG stands for massively multiplayer online role-playing game |
| Azar_of_Faerun01-02-07, 06:59 PM | Nope, the NWN series aren't MMORPGs in the server sense, nor do they charge for online play |
| texasisfunny01-02-07, 09:48 PM | I think a FR mmorpg would be awsome. As long as Atari has no hand in it and the world is bigger than 1 city... DDO made me cry... cool concept, great game play but its a small game with limited races and classes. |
| Azar_of_Faerun01-03-07, 01:00 AM | Oh yes, let's take the most important thing with the rules (D&D) and setting (FR) and greatly reduce them :D Add in lag, people who can't type to save their lives, PKers and it'll be fun fun fun :) |
| The_Shaman01-03-07, 08:27 PM | If there's a divine seeker, consecrated harrier, or even a sacred flame zealot of the deity of spelling (Deneir would be close enough, I guess) I could have a lot of fun with that. "Blashpemer! Thou shalt nevermore type "own" with a "p"!" :D |
| Diffan01-03-07, 09:19 PM | Oh yes, let's take the most important thing with the rules (D&D) and setting (FR) and greatly reduce them :D Add in lag, people who can't type to save their lives, PKers and it'll be fun fun fun :) Well, in all honesty, I've only played Guild Wars. And that was only the trial game you can play without paying for the game. But, If they were to create a game that used those kinda rules, I think it would do wonderfully. I've heard so many complaints as well as praises about WoW that I can't really get an accurate opinion with out playing the game for myself and spending all the $$. Suffice to say that if they DO make a MMO about Faerun, I hope it's designed like Guild Wars. |
| Seans01-03-07, 09:48 PM | What about Jet Lee as Drizzt, and the guy who the Wudan master on Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon as Drizzt father? |
| Wellin_Adipocere01-05-07, 08:46 PM | I believe the only way a realms novel would make a successful movie is if they didn't promote it as a D&D film but rather a fantasy film. They should also use an original story set in the FR world and have a couple of character cameos for the hardcore fans. This way we can see a vision of what Toril looks like on the screen and we don't have to have our beloved stories and characters ruined. Just like what happened to Eragon. How does Malkovich get to be a dragon rider? |
| CainJustice03-10-07, 09:37 PM | You know a movie would be great, but I would like to see a video game and, as mentioned before, it would be ok with me to see a movie produced quite like the Final Fantasy movies. Who would you guys like to see play Dritzz? There are some black models that might do the job, but I don't think they're as black as I think the Drow are when I read the book. well, i'd probably nominate Ray Park from Star Wars, he was BA as Darth Maul, he would be great in terms of fight scenes....dunno about the acting, i guess he's alright, but he can sure do a fight scene...or maybe Jason Statham from Transporter...someone who can sell a good fight. |
| CainJustice03-10-07, 09:43 PM | entreri??? hmmm maybe jason statham if he won't get the drizzt part and he would need to grow some hair on top....or that crooked politician from "Heroes"...that guy plays a good dark character. verne troyer as regis...nevermind scratch that...i don't think he moves fast enough for regis.... |
| Arbourean03-11-07, 10:41 PM | I'd rather not have the satisfaction I get from the novels ruined by Hollywood's crappy interpretation of said novels. |
| Whisper_Swiftblade03-12-07, 07:20 PM | C.G. Drizzt wouldnt be a bad idea but it would take ten years before we seen anything!! verry untrue, stuff like the CG in AC takes a while, but not realy any longer than a live action film would, personaly if the good folks at square who made AC and one of the quality FR stories (hear that greenwood I am NOT talking about Elmister) ever came togather I would probally do a backflip for the sheer joy it would bring me. Come on useing intirely CG has so many pluses, there is less chance of change in the story (as it would probally not acctuly go to theaters), the charictors and would look the way they should (not like actors wo try to look like the charitors), the fight sceans would be much smoother (there would be no trying to find someone who looks like and fights like drizzit and can act), the monsters, races, and magics of the seting would stand a much better chance of being well represented, and the budget would (mind you this is a guess) probally be lower. |
| Daydreamer03-14-07, 01:44 AM | could someone provide a link regarding this. And wesley snipes would be bad for the role, hes too bulky and big. |
| ShadowQueen03-14-07, 07:44 PM | or that crooked politician from "Heroes"...that guy plays a good dark character. NonononononononoNONONO! Okay, yes he plays a good dark character, but he could NOT possibly do Artemis Entreri. No. I would love to see a Drizzt movie, or just about any FR movie especily those ones by Elaine Cunningham. But look how them people screwed up with the Dungeons and Dragons movie(s?)! The only way they could do it is if it was an epic fantasy type movie like LOTR, not a DnD type movie. If they make a movie of the Drizzt books, I'll totally see it, but I know I'm gonna be dissapointed. I just dont see any way at all they could make it work. |
| The-Half03-14-07, 09:02 PM | You are worried about how tall Ray Park is? Man look at how tall Wesley Snipes is. Why worry about how tall anyone is???? There is this little budget movie called "The Lord of The Rings Trilogy", you should try and find it and watch it if you ever get a chance, anyway, in this movie there are these little guys called "Hobbits" (kinda the same thing as halflings). Well these "hobbits" appear to only be about 3 feet or so in the movie, but guess what? (This is gonna blow you away!) The actors that play them are WAY taller than 3 feet.....turns out they can do crafty things with special effects and camera angles now days. Latter I found out those actors didnt even have furry feet! Crazy special effects......... |
| The-Half03-14-07, 09:06 PM | I'd rather not have the satisfaction I get from the novels ruined by Hollywood's crappy interpretation of said novels. Exactly, if you're gonna do a FR movie, make up new characters so you dont accidently screw over the author's or fan's ideas of the character. And please dont make it about a clumsy thief and other minimal level characters saving the world from countless dragons like in the original D&D movie! The 2nd movie (while still not great, was vastly better.........it was about D&D... aka. a group of adventurers on a quest/adventure....no one famous, no re-make of a book, it was original). However, small cameos by FR legends might be really cool....just dont over do it....no Cameo every 10 minutes. |
| Zsych03-17-07, 07:36 AM | They should take the guy who played the main elf in the party in LotR and paint him black. A little childish looking, if I recall him correctly, but he might do(As elves go, Drizzt is a child, at least in the Dark-Elf series) |
| Drizzt_Shadow_Hunter04-12-07, 12:56 AM | well I would have to agree with you wanting more of the Assassin. Those are great books to read and it gives people a chance to see the side of the Assassin a little more with Jarlax of course who is also a kick ass character. I love Drizzt and would like to see a movie be made but not right now. People who really don't know Drizzt or Forgotten Realms would not appreciate the movie and call it a knock off of LOTR if you understand me. For now I would stick to the comics and Books I would also like a statue or toy line of Fogotten Realm characters like Drizzt and Guenhwyvar or Wulfgar that would be cool to have made by the same company that created Spawn Figures.:) |
| Salahdin04-12-07, 01:13 PM | I think a Forgotten Realms movie can be tremendous!!! And better with Dritzz as protagonist! |
| ZuulMoG04-13-07, 07:44 PM | I think it's a bit ironic and inevitably disastrous to cast an African American as a drow. The inevitable "drow=evil and so African American=evil" connection will be made by less educated people and those individuals who so badly want it to be true. Glad that made it on the first page, if it hadn't, I would have said it myself. Someone making the automatic assumption that African actors would be required to portray the Drow is just... a PR nightmare waiting to happen. And, Wespley Snipes? As Drizzt? |
| The WarOverlord04-20-07, 07:46 AM | Drizzt movie: Cool idea but not going to happen anytime soon. The "success" of the two Dungeons and Dragons movie still needs to blow over (the first one made me want to puke, the second I refuse to see). . Well, the real problem that people had with the Official Dungeons and Dragons movie is that it was the Director's? Homebrew Campaign that was put on the screen and not the Intellectual Property of Ed Greenwood or the other Writters of the Different Novels classified as D&D stuff that could have caused copywrit violations or legal hoop jumping. Oh and if anyone actually wanted to goof around in the Movie's Campaign World it actually became availible as reference materials cause, like it or not, it is declared Kosher D&D and a Offical Campaign World by Wizards of the Sword Coast....lol I actually had expectations for "Pool of Radiance" or "Eye of the Beholder" or even a Drizzt Movie as well, but when the story started and they Started to talk about a Kingdom ruled by Mages I was like "Oh, It's a Home brew World" and I watched with no futher expectations of it being a world I knew My only real complaint was the crack about a "low Level Mage" which was funny cause that is a game mechanics term (maybe "Only a Apprentice")and the laziness of the Screen writer to leave party members out of possible intersesting situations. Not so much the Rod's resting place as only the holder of the ruby could get past the Barrier, but seeing the Ranger and her "red shirts" taking on the Beholder might have been ammusing....other then that a lot of the thngs were explained |
| TerribleOne07-09-07, 10:39 PM | New here, and kinda late bum but.. I think a TV series in FR would be great. I dont know if there are any Sci Fi fans here that enjoyed Farscape. I actually disliked Sci fi stuff, then I caught an episode of farscape and though.. wow as corny and cheesy as some of this stuff it, alot of it is classic party based adventure. Always pitting the good guys vs a world of bad guys, all sorts of different magic powers. I think with a similar budget to Farscape, and help from the Henson company, all the FR goodness could really show. Of course I dont think the show could follow a specific famous character, would have to start more like the beginning of a group of adventures, then proceed to show all their interesting adventures in the FR setting. Make the episodes take up an hour slot so you can get plenty of detail. |
| Eltorion07-15-07, 09:43 PM | OMG there making a movie??!!!! is it out i hope it's good im just reading Homeland but it's so good!!! |
| Red_Wizard07-16-07, 08:52 AM | lmao. This must be a mandatory topic that need crop up once a month. So ok, quick summary. YES, they planned on making a movie, riding on the success of LoTR. YES, Wesley snipes was slated to play Drizzt, and yes Laurence Fishburne was to play Jarlaxle. NO, this movie is no longer going to happen. NO there are no plans of making ANY movie in the near future that has been announced here, or anywhere else. YES, there is a Dragonlance movie coming out. To summarize. We would all like to see a FR movie come out. But we all want it to be done right. Sorry for those of you that disagree, but a washed up vampire, and a cryptic man giving you red and blue pills will never make good options for two amazing, and iconic characters such as Drizzt and Jarlaxle. Maybe someday this will happen, but for the moment i'd rather have nothing and dream, than have something of the quality we saw via the DnD films. |
| Crust07-16-07, 09:13 AM | I think (or perhaps hope) that the Dragons of Autumn Twilight cartoon coming out this fall will somehow open the door for more WotC-inspired films, series, etc. Hopefully it will be better than the pathetic D&D movies. It should happen. Drizzt should be as well-known as Harry Potter. |
| Eltorion07-16-07, 10:42 AM | OMG this is so ........ why can't they make am movie |
| Thomasyo408-08-07, 09:29 AM | if their looking for a black guy to play drizzt they should get the guy who played Tuvok from star trek. |
| Diffan08-08-07, 04:06 PM | if their looking for a black guy to play drizzt they should get the guy who played Tuvok from star trek. I honestly think Drizzt, drow, and elves as a whole should be played by asian actors. They're almond shaped eyes, small physique, and most actor's martial training are just some of the attributes that better define elven looks and style. |
| GothicDan08-08-07, 09:19 PM | Elves always had a Norse feel to me, physically and otherwise, for obvious reasons - Alfir and all. I'd be super disappointed to see a lot of Asian Elves, just because they don't play into their mythology at all. And remember that almost all Torillian Elves are also slightly TALLER than your average human. :) |
| Straploknight08-08-07, 11:56 PM | I vote cartoon or cgi all the way and as for a movie I always kinda thought the Icewind Dale RPG would translate pretty well or at least its cool music |
| Krillah08-08-07, 11:57 PM | What do you guys think about the new movie about Drizzt Do'Urden Trilogy, directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of Rings Trilogy). Cheers Honestly, I never heard WotC was planning on making a movie based on Drizzt Do'Urden. I always thought The Dark Elf Trilogy would make a fantastic set of movies. However, I think I'd rather see a Starlight and Shadows Trilogy, it would come together better as a set of movies in my eyes. As for Peter Jackson, I think the man's good at what he does so why not put the script in his lap, I doubt he would take on the challenge if after reading it there seemed no way to make it a great trilogy. I doubt he would want to tarnish his reputation. Whoever decides to make the movie is going to find themselves hard pressed to emuate the designs and movements given by the books. |
| boards08-09-07, 12:03 AM | Elves always had a Norse feel to me, physically and otherwise, for obvious reasons - Alfir and all. I'd be super disappointed to see a lot of Asian Elves, just because they don't play into their mythology at all. And remember that almost all Torillian Elves are also slightly TALLER than your average human. :) Taller:confused::bigeyes: I always had them as about 5 1/2 to 6 feet. Look at El in MD, when he shapechanges into an elf he shrinks, Mentor is shown growing when he transforms back into a human. I can think of very few elves who are described as taller than humans. As for the appearance I have to admit I've always seen FR elves as being vaguely Asian in appearance, definately not as Scandanavian. |
| GothicDan08-09-07, 02:04 PM | They are described as taller in the 2E campaign setting. And growing and shrinking could mean girth, not necessarily height. The 5 1/2 Elves you are referring to are from Greyhawk. And... Well, I've never pictured an Asian Elf. The culture clash makes me laugh too hard. |
| boards08-09-07, 04:23 PM | Well that surprises me. Amyway in the EiMD mentor definately grows taller by a foot and becomes bulkier, as for Elminster he is described as smaller and slimmer which could possibly be as you describe. That was the first FR book that I read so I always pictured them as smaller. Ah well. |
| The_Shaman08-13-07, 06:21 AM | Torillian elves might be taller, but male drow tend to be rather short and with slight builds. I can imagine that an asian actor does well at it. For some reason, I just can't imagine a black actor who is short and with a slight, yet athletic build. Much less having many of them - and a movie in which Drizzt is the only drow around would be just weird. Oh well, this is why I prefer animation for such cases :) |
| Tpatt08-15-07, 08:41 AM | Well, I dont see a live action movie being made anytime soon but how about a straight to DVD animated movie? I could see this happening alot quicker than a live action film. |
| Gatsu10001-08-08, 11:02 AM | Karl Urban who has played in Lord of the Rings, Doom, and most recent Pathfinder. Wesly Snipes is a good actor but he is to big and stocky if that.. He is not elven built. Also, Karl Urban is not as famous, so it could give a raw appeal to the movie.. Eragon the movie did not even touch the fringes of the book (which was a great book). I hope they do not do the same |
| Charles Phipps01-18-08, 01:45 PM | Actually, I think you need a black man to play Drizzt because the issues are about racism in the opening trilogy of Homeland and people hating Drizzt for his skin color. Anyone else will pretty much be accused of being in blackface. |
| Straploknight01-18-08, 02:22 PM | I disagree, that'd be kow towing of the highest order (even if it is a hollywood specialty), and makes even less sense when you factor in drow facial features (over all build isn't that much of an issue) and IMO denegrating at worst if they were to preface the events of the dark elf trilogy with some history of the fractioning. "All right all you white guy elves doing bad things, as part of your curse, your now black guy elves because you did bad things to white guy elves". The movie would be better off if they picked another cast member to be black (like mooshie) or created a part for a black cast member. |
| Charles Phipps01-18-08, 02:30 PM | I'm just saying that a large portion of R.A. Salvatore's books are themed on the basics of Drizzt's skin tone being an unfair source of racism. It's a major part of the books and one reason at least one of my group likes them. (even though, yes, he dislikes the fact that the only black men he percieves in the books are the bad guys BUT Drizzt) It's meta-texting that people really ARE justified in their racism against Dark Elves when the theme is that they should judge Drizzt solely by his actions and not his race. Also, I'm glad that Dark Elves have been retconned as always been racially Dark Skinned. |
| The_Shaman01-19-08, 07:18 AM | Weren't they always? IIRC their skin might have been a bit lighter, but the Illythiri and the Miyeritari dark elves used to have dark skin anyway. |
