| Echon09-24-03, 09:41 AM | This post deals mainly with AD&D 2E. As you all know, Drow Elves lose their special abilities and magic resistance when outside of the Underdark as presented in the Complete Book of Elves. However, in Heroes' Lorebook, he still has his magic resistance and innate abilties. Is Drizzt as special drow elf who ignores the standard rules or did Salvatore ignore the official material? -Echon |
| Damador09-24-03, 10:16 AM | SR = 11 + class lvl - for drizzt 11+16 = 27 read SRD rules for further info |

| Damador09-24-03, 10:29 AM | drow have 50 % + 5 % /per 3 lvls btw 2 edition ... too old and useless |

Yes, 2E is indeed old but not at all useless to me. Now, listen up, I am not asking for how Drow magic resistance works, I want to know if Drizzt is supposed to have it or not. If you do not think you can answer this, do not bother. -Echon |
| Damador09-24-03, 11:01 AM | all drow have spell resist -this is natural ability of all drow's and there is no known exceptions |
| Alrunic Silverfyre09-24-03, 11:15 AM | btw 2 edition ... too old and useless ~Beats Damador to death with a severed goblin limb for that comment~ Ahem...In the Heroes' Lorebook, I believe that is just another case of game vs. novel stats. In the books Drizzt does lose almost all of his special innate abilities, save the usage of faerie fire and darkness. I can't remember a time where Salvatore wrote about Drizzt's magic resistance so I am to believe that it is nothing more than a misrepresentation of the stats unless drow don't lose that magic resistance when they come to the surface. I wonder if the lose of magic is only on the weapons and armor of the drow. This is supported by Drizzt losing his ability to levitate on the surface, that ability was granted by his house symbol not his innate abilities. Thus it was item related, and like his drow made Underdark weapons, turned to dust when the sun hit it. |

According to the Complete Book of Elves, drow lose their magic resistance as well as their innate abilities over a period of days or weeks, I cannot remember. I have read the books of Drizzt and he seems to have used some and ignored some of those rules. E.g. he has included the Drow's vulnerability to light, which in game terms equal -2 to THAC0 and Dexterity. -Echon |
| Kuje3109-24-03, 01:16 PM | Also according to Drow of the Underdark, drow on the surface lose all thier abilities, which is why priestess of Eilistraee do not have any drow abilities or armor or weapons that were made in the Underdark. So we can see that Drizzt is a special case and for some reason he still has some of his powers, when he really shouldn't. |
| Black_Kaioshin10-18-03, 07:58 PM | Heh heh, but now, thanks to Liriel Baenre and the Windwalker, Drizzt again has full use of his innate abilities and his magic resistence. |

Except the new Underdark sourcebook kind of just blew that out of the water since Drow decaying items and abilities are back. :) |

So their weapons will still function on the surface. |

"I think it was included to give the old schoolers that remember it, and the people that read about it in the novels something to cling to. They state that most drow citys don't use it anymore, so its not like its a hugely popular thing. Lots of drow will be fought in the upperdark caverns that don't have nodes and radiation magic so the chances that people will find these things is very slim. How many times do your PCs raid the underdark cities of the drow after all? As with anything, use it if you like, if you don't... don't. I just thought it was nifty in a return of the old school kinda way." |
