Well, it's less of a FR product and more of a Core product. It's not the first time they did this (2e FR's Draconomicon is now 3e Core Draconomicon).

Still, excited. Yay.

I hope it would still be rather FR-oriented. I don't think any of the other settings actually has something like the underdark anyway...

The Drow originated in Greyhawk, as did, at the very least, the goddess Lolth herself. Considering none of the past core books that focused on races had anything specifically Realmsian, it'd be pretty ridiculously and painfully bias if they went into any detail about Drow specific to the Realms.

Of course, this is business we're talking about, isn't it? Drow = Drizzt, Drizzt = Forgotten Realms. So I'm sure there'll be SOMETHING, though probably not much, since it's still core.

Anything my man can use to make playing in the underdark funner is Ok with me I hope he gets this book soon because he has been downloading patches for WoW allday anyway.

Most if not all of the drow pantheon worshipped in the Realms are interlopers (I don't recall about Selvetarm off the top of my head), so a book on drow doesn't need to be explicitely FR to still retain relevance for drow in FR. As wrapped around their gods' fingers as much of drow society tends to be, drow cultures from one world to the next will be quite similar in key ways. Besides, if the upcoming Drow book was primarily for FR, it'd run the risk of retreading a lot of ground from the FR Underdark book.

I'm curious to see what material the book will have on non-Lolth worshipping drow, though that's assuredly a minority topic in the book. The material on Erilei-Cinlu will be juicy as well.

I'd asked over on the new products board if anyone has any idea what PrCs or substitution levels would be included in this book. Sadly my question was ignored by the anti-drow folks. Anyone on this board have any info?

This book is not a Races book, it's a Book of the X style (Book of the Dead, Book of Dragons, Book of Aberrations)

Therefore, there prolly won't be any subs levels.

Selvetarm isn't an interloper technically. His mother was a Faerun Elven goddess absorbed by Sharess shortly after the birth of Selvetarm. Since his father is Vhaerun I'm not completely sure but that is my guess :)

Trust me, they came close to torches and pitchforks when they heard about the Expedition to Demonweb Pit.

They sadly missed Greyhawk. Hey, don't hate us. Hate Eberron.

I was somewhat surprised that they simply chose the title of Ed Greenwood's milestone again. One hopes that all drow deities are involved, not just some less specific and irrelevant (on these shores) core folk as introduced in Dragon 298. You would hope for Initiate feats as well as at least an update on events of the WotSQ and some facts and figures on the deities right now.

That said ... Lady Penitent can "mess" this all up again. :weep:

The information we have so far is that it is going to develop the original drow city of Greyhwak, Erel.... (sp?), I can't remember, from the first edition D series of modules. It will probably update a lot of the information presented on the city in Dragon a few years back and I'm guessing pull the information we've already seen developed in various sources, including several excellent Dragon articles over the years, into the book.

I have a feeling that this book will be great for my group. We have been dying to play an all Drow adventure, and this looks promising.

I can't wait to see what kind of weapons are included:D

I hope it's not as silly as an elven double-bow. *shudders violently*

Selvetarm's the spawn of Vhaerun and Zandilar the Dancer (a Yuir deity which is currently an aspect of Sharess). So sayeth Faiths & Pantheons and Demihuman Deities.

Odds are the book will be mostly core-centric (much like Draconomicon, Libris Mortis, Lords of Madness, and both Fiendish Codices), and will include sections on the role of Drow in both published settings (i.e. the Drow in Faerun and the Drow in Eberron). This is actually a good business decision, as it now appeals to different players.

It's currently not appealing to different gamers, if the thread in the Future Release forum is any indication.

Dunno. I cannot say much on the role drow play in Greyhawk these days (if any), and I doubt that much of what is written in the book is that important for the "drow" of Eberron either. Maybe I am wrong here, but if people think of drow these days, they think of Faerūn first and foremost. Thus, I would hope that the Faerūnian branch gets a decent bit of attention.

"That" Dragon ... remember those drow unborn (if there's more than one) start fighting for supremacy even within the mother's womb and she get's an overwhelming feeling of elation if one of them manages to kill the other? Goodness me ... who needs nightmares if there are articles like these.

While I don't recommend transporting all core rules into FR (hardly!), I really am not that against that idea. Then again, in my multiverse, millions of Drow are birthed from huge egg sacs that Lolth lays in her Spiderweb Pits. ;)

That Dragon magazine, 298, still gives me fits when people try to quote for use in the realms. "But I read in Dragon 298 that . . . "

Grrr. Lolth damn the editors for that article. The Living Greyhawk article from that Magazine on Erelhei-Cinlu was nice though, that one I liked, but the endless Tests of Lotlh, the description of drow society, etc.? For Lolth's sake . . . lets let that "view" die. Quickly.

Now, moving on - so long as the new "Drow of the Underdark" book is not a retread/expansion of that Dragon Magazine article I think it will be great - I already love what I've seen in the preview (like the "Knight of Lolth" feat! w00t!).

I do fear what Z mentioned though - WotC could screw everything up with the Lady Penitent series. Let us pray to the Queen of Spiders that does not happen.
