Drow House Combat Questions [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-26-03, 01:54 AM My understanding of house combat between rival drow houses is the Matron Mother and the top seven ranking clan priestess's gather in the chapel to the Spider Queen and engage is some sort of spell/mental combat with the house clerics of the target house. I've never actually seen written rules for this and have been pondering how to approach it in an actual gaming sense. Game-wise it would be more useful for the powerful members of a drow family to engage directly at the battle site, but as i always like to tweak and create stuff i was trying to get an idea of how to approach priestess combat. My first idea was perhaps each altar of Lolth should act as a focus point for spells which any of the faithful can channel into during times of war, thus allowing them to direct spells at a rival family. Of course the first biggest issue would be those who have fallen out of favor and have been stripped of their spells would be at a huge disadvantage and most likely wiped out in short order. That and i dont really like the idea of blade barriers and firestorms going off during this type of mental/spell combat. Maybe combat could take the form of sub-dual damage dictated by the combined levels of each group of clerics and some form of DC check, that might allow the focus effect of the altars to work. At any rate I'm sort of stumped and am looking for any suggestions ya all might have regarding this rival priestess combat issue. Thanks for your time in reading this long-winded post. ;)

10-26-03, 03:57 AM well...dont really know wat u're talking about cuz i always thought drow house combat involved the aggressor sending its house troops and invading the other house's fortress.

10-26-03, 10:11 AM Are you referring to the beginning of Homeland ? Matron Malice and her clerics were casting circle or cooperative magic, a 2e form of magic where the power of the central caster is boosted by the others in the circle. They were doing that to augment the attack of their warriors.

10-26-03, 12:03 PM Yes, I guess it would be in reference to Homeland . If i remember, it stated that Malice's daughter had crushed one of the lesser rival house clerics under her mental insinuations and lay dead at the feet of Ginafae. When the chapel doors blew by Zak during the attack, the only spell that came to my mind would have been a 2e spell called Spiritual Wrath. Those events were pretty much my focus on this rival priestess combat issue. I'll take a look at circle magic and see what i can come up with in the meantime.
