DarkBard 06-26-03, 02:01 PM	As you can no doubt tell from my avitar and my handle, I love dark elves. Their language is unique and from samples I have heard in various video games, very exotic sounding. However, seeing the words in print or looking them up in translation on Language of the Drow, I have the hardest time trying to get the right prounciation. OK, so call me obsessive, but I have looked at the spelling of some of the words and compared them to other words in the Forgotten realms in order to match prounciations (like the word "duergar" is pronounced DWAR-gar from matching the spelling to the name of the goddess Deep Duerga). The point is how do you pronouce the following words and phrases: 1) Baenre. Is it (BANE-reh ba-en-RAY what?) 2) anything with a double letter like the name Aliizsa. I can't think of any others at the moment. But that should start things off.
Maskanodel 06-26-03, 02:11 PM	I've always pronounced it as Bane-Ra, but from what I hear RA Salvatore pronounces it Ba-en-ray.
DAoC man 06-26-03, 02:41 PM	I've always said it BANE-reh. But then again, I say Drizzt Drizzit and Wulfgar Wolf-gar (Salvatore say it Walfgar, supposedly :uh-huh: ).
DarkBard 06-27-03, 12:51 AM	Yeah, i think I'll go with Salvatore on this one because he is like the "author of the drow" It makes sense to say Ba-en-RAY because the drow word wael is pronounce wah-EL. Here is another one...Qu'ellarz'orl. WAAY too many accent marks.:confused:
