Drow Truce??? [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-29-04, 01:59 AM In the book Daughter of the Drow,.. Elaine mentions a forced truce among the priestesses of Loth. Many of the events in these books are meant to carry over to the game world(ie breunor the king of mithral hall), I'm wondering if this is also subject to that. And If it is,.. then is it still in effect,.. and what of it after the begining of the silence?

We are going to be running a campaign of drow that are stranded on the surface,.. trying to do what a drow's gotta do! ya know kill, maim, slaughter fairies,.. the usual. I'm trying to gather as much info as i can that would have some kind of influnce. Thanks!

01-29-04, 12:19 PM I would say that all truces are off. what they were probably talking about is war between cities. i.e. menzo and ched fighting each other. And depending on when all these books work out in the time line they could just mean interhouse wars in menzo. cause if not some one would have killed the first house. in my opinion. and the fact that we cant discuss wiz novels is complete trash. I think its weak. what did some author take offense to what some one thought of it. god forbid some one has an opinion.

01-30-04, 08:27 AM It is "real Realms" related, thus it can be discussed. Events as they are unfold in DotD and WotSQ are part of the setting and as such question might be asked.

The truce was made in Menzo because of the losses suffered during the attack on Mithral Hall. Menzoberranzan needs to be strong again and Lolth decrees that there shall be a truce for a certain time. How long that time was is not defined, but another truce was called during the events of WotSQ, the Silence of Lolth - for obvious reasons. This truce is still in effect in Menzo and was in Ched Nasad.

In other drow cities this might be different (e.g., Sschindylryn & Guallidurth).

01-30-04, 10:27 AM Of course, if it serves your campaign, you have several choices up to you. Maybe more or less of them are at a truce than your books say? They are novels, and what happens in the novels happens in the game, but only so much as you want them to.

As the DM for your campaign, you'll have to decide your stance on the truce, the silence, or if you are even running a campaign set in 1372 DR. If you roll it back a few years or even a few months, none of what you said would even matter.

Thats one of the things a lot of DM's seem to miss. You can change the setting, and the towns and gods and anything else you want to, but you can also change the time. Playing in the past of Faerun can be extremely cool, and you get the sensation that you helped to make Faerun the way it is now...

01-30-04, 06:38 PM Sometimes in times of great urgency, like the Silence or the situation that occured in the book, drow matrons will call a truce because they are wise enough to realize that reorganization is in order and that the typical chaotic behavior will only worsen a situation.
In the books, Lolth herself commanded them to truce if I remember right. No drow in their right mind would disobey a direct order from their Matron Goddess.
