| Pystian06-21-03, 05:36 PM | I read in the FRCS that criminal Duergar are commonly stripped of their possessions, tatooed on the face and arms, and then ostracized. To return is to die. What exactly do these tattooes look like? Can all Dwarves identify them? The FRCS kind of makes it sound like there is a considerable minority of non-evil (though probably mostly neutral) Duergar. Anyone know more about this? I'm thinking of making one... |

Ouch. That hurts me right here, Straploknight. Right here. ;) I'm thinking more along the lines of a Fighter/Savant or Monk or something. Thanks anyhow though. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in my not-*knowing* (no one tell the Githzerai). I checked Races of Faerun and there isn't any more on it there either. I'll look through some 2nd edition stuff later, but I highly suspect I won't find anything. |
| Desies06-27-03, 02:55 PM | I've recently made a Duergar psion, so I've gone on the prowl to find anything and everything I can about them. Unfortunately their is very little to find. I've all I can about them and their is no description of the tatoos and their is not a whole lot of info on their society in general. Basically do whatever you want...it is your character. |
| deadite06-28-03, 07:51 AM | Some underdark resident dwarves might identify the tattoo, but that doesnt really matter. Duergar are not pleasant and if a duergar is exiled from theri society, how bad must that little bastard be? They take one look at the dwarf, see he's Duergar and threaten him with their battle axes. Duergar are rare, most sages on the surface think they have gone extinct. Dwarves that live on the surface would probably not identify the tattoo, but I still think they know about Duergar and hate or fear them. |

I'm not sure, but doesn't it say in the FRCS that they're exiled because they dont fit in? That they're "too good" (alignment wise) for Duergar society. |

| Gotrex06-28-03, 09:27 AM | Alot of dwarves will probably know about the tatoos due to there many encounters with the duegar though for most dwarves it will not really matter Shield dwarves(most common type of dwarf) attack duegar on sight |

| Orbdrin Mizzrym06-29-03, 12:41 AM | They are exiled for more reasons than 'not fitting in'. Remember, like all dwarves, Duergar society is extremely lawful. Even though their culture is extremely evil, they are also quite lawful. Breaking a law will get you punished. Most likely, this is one of the reasons that they are exiled. They break a law. (Perhaps they had trade embargo's put on other underdark races, and canny duergar merchants decided to break the embargos to get a profit, and they got caught. Just one example.) |
| Pystian06-29-03, 12:46 AM | True dat. Still, I think it leaves plenty of room for non-lawful evil Duergar. |
