Dungeon of the Crypt... [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-02-03, 12:08 PM I'm looking for source material on the Dungeon of the Crypt in Waterdeep. Has anyone seen any kind of detailed information on this at all?

10-02-03, 12:51 PM The Dungeon of the Crypt is thoroughly developed, and thoroughly unpublished. Sad that no space has been found to publish it in 16 years. It's partly in response to such difficulties that Ed is doing the Castlemorn Ruins Sourcebook for next year.

10-02-03, 07:02 PM I don't know the full story, though I think Ed would tell me most of it if I asked [correction: much of it, since it's a long one], but here I'm referring to a comment he made here on REALMS-L (http://oracle.wizards.com/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind0309C&L=realms-l&P=R3663). Have a little faith.

10-02-03, 10:01 PM Even if Faraer wasn't in contact with Ed (which he is), it wouldn't be difficult to see the logic of his statement without needing Ed to say, "Yep, that's right!". The Dungeon of the Crypt has not been detailed in any TSR/WotC product. Ever. Ed ran his first gaming group, the Company of the Crazed Venturers, through that very same dungeon. You would think then that it exists, is detailed and remains unpublished. :rolleyes: yourself.

I know that the dungeon of the crypt is unpublished and that Ed did detail it... although I seriously doub't that it is detailed for the present edition of the game... more likly all of Ed's notes and such are still in 1e speak ;)

in fact the email that Faerer mentions (which I got too, being a memeber of the realms mailing list) says

"I haven't split from WotC. Remember, I've never
been employed by either TSR (though they did try) or
WotC. I've always just been a freelancer, like all of
you. I'm quite happy with the folks I work with at
WotC, there are no legal troubles or hard feelings I
know of between us (honestly), and the "new setting"
is my sixth or so that I've tinkered with since the
Realms first saw print."

and in a different spot further down

"I want to do more in-close detailing of Realms
settings (cities, individual realms) than the current
schedule allows, yes. So I'm finding an outlet for
that sort of design that won't get in the way of any
opportunities WotC may give me in the future to do
more Realms design work. For the record, I've been
working steadily on Realms game and book material for
as long as I can remember, and there are five
contracted Realms novels that haven't seen print yet.
So, unless I get run over by a bus or something
corporate happens in the future, you're going to be
seeing Ed Greenwood Realms stuff for years yet. WotC
and freelance folks still contact me with Realmslore
queries six or seven times a week. Remember, my hand
touches a lot of Realms stuff that doesn't have my
name on it, one way or another, and that's fine: this
is, after all, now truly a SHARED world."

I get tired of Faerer's always ranting about how the realms are so far from Ed's vision, and Ed is so unhappy about the way the realms are being run... etc... when as far as I can tel from anything I have seen from every thing Ed has said it is not true.

10-03-03, 04:35 AM Well, Ed is a positive sort and his glass is always half full, never half empty. He has his good days and bad. He doesn't wallow and put on the ashes and sackcloth when things 'happen' in the Realms or with WotC that he's not totally happy with, but I know that lots of things occur that cause him to be a tad unimpressed. However, he prefers to look foward, not backward and encourages all FR fans to be more pro-active and productive in expressing their love of the gameworld. In that sense, I've taken a leaf out of his book and my *****ing quotient has dropped remarkably since I realised that it's not going to change anything, and that I've got far better things to do with my time. like write for the Realms. Adios.;)

10-03-03, 08:00 AM cwslyclgh, sorry for tiring you. I'm aware of the risk, when stating concerns that stick around, of being repetitive, but I do try for variation and nuance, and only rant on special occasions.

Ed is delighted by aspects of how the Realms developed under TSR and WotC, but is also on record about aspects he'd have preferred were done differently. As Krash says, he works from the situation that exists. I'm not speaking for him, but the concerns are real, and I don't impart to people thoughts they haven't publicly stated.
