I realize in the forgotten realms the viability of this sort of character may not have a strong mortality rate but I would enjoy seeing where he may fit. Anyhow, does anyone know if wizard has approached this idea before? Some ideas I’ve had concerning a dwarven engineer… A foremost concern is how he will help in combat. Barring a planned siege, I don’t know how this character may assist substantially. As far as the engineer class, I imagine him sharing skills from a rogue (analyzing viewpoint) & cleric/wizard (necessity & appreciation of knowledge). A promising outlook is the possible crafting of not only items (tools, weapons, jewelry…) but also magical items – should this talent be attributed to clerical/wizardry prowess? |

Take rogue as your first level for more ranks, which will allow you to max Search, Profession Engineer, Dis Dev, Op L and Use Rope. Then take levels in bard for the knowledge skills. Take the Nimble Fingers feat for bonuses with your Disable Device. Be the ultimate trap undoer, with some bardic knowledge to reflect the fact that you know a bit on every subject... To keep with the engineer flavor, have him use a crossbow with the Quick Reload feat. I recommend one of the following combo, either: 1. Hand Crossbow and Small Shield (hand free to reload because of Small Shield and then you fire with one hand; Small Shield allow you to keep AC for the whole round) 2. Light Crossbow and Buckler (more damage but you can only use Buckler with a Light Crossbow, as you need both hands to shoot; the AC doesn't stay with you after your turn has gone by) So yeah: rogue/bard trap master with crossbow action, expert in architecture and all! :) I don't know what the requirements are to man a ballista or catapult, but look in the DMG and have those too!! :) If your DM is creative, he'll allow for fights where you defend villages against big giants and stuff so your character can have his share of the spotlight... ;) |
