Ed Greenwood's new Realmslore column has been posted on the WotC website. It describes the planning and creation of a new elven land named Dawntree. Check it out!

I wonder if this will have anything to do with the Tree of Souls that Amlaruil gives Lamruil at the end of Evermeet

LOL, i was just thinking that same question! I hope so... i want to know what happens to the tree and the good prince Lamruil. At first i thought Evereska musta been the city he built, or was gonna build, but i figured out quickly enough that that couldnt be the case, so ive been wondering where exactly this new city was...

I doubt it's the new nation the Prince founded since that nation was supposed to be some where in the North.......

But I did read Ed's article and I can't wait to see what else it says.... And some of the elven words in that article were interesting as well as the food and drink. :)

Also no Evereska was founded a long time ago, some time around or before Myth Drannor since Khelben rescued elves from Evereska and he born in Myth Drannor.

I know, like i said, when i thought about it, i realized that it couldnt be the place, it was just the first place that popped into my mind after i finished the book.;)

This new subject looks much more interesting then the last one. The board-cryer thing was neat got very dull for me.

The Broad Cryer and Presses of Waterdeep articles were good also (IMHO :)). Shrug but then I have a lot of PC's in Waterdeep right now so they were good plot hooks since one of them continues to make use of the bardic college.

Waterdeep is pretty close to the area generally thought of us as the North, is it not?

I won't disqualify that it may be the new elven realm just yet...

In fact the first articles calls them the "would be founders" perhaps what they're looking for has all ready been founded and the rest of the articles will deal with the actual locale?

I wonder if this new elven nation is what they had in mind when the FRCS stated that the Retreat was over... ?

Now we're talkin'! This should be interesting to see how it pans out, the Waterdeep press thing was nice but not my cup of tea.

At least they didn't pull off the "new subterraneous long-forgotten halfling subrace discovered!" thing. I know people on this board who would go to WotC's HQ with a machinegun if they added yet another Underdark twist of common races.

I'd like to see more on dwarves, meself.

And the various planetouched races are cool, too. I'd like to see a bit more on them, as well.
Israfel666

Planetouched are hard to write fluff about, because they have never formed a civilization of their own. The best you could probably wish for is a planetouched protagonist for a novel, or a sort of Who's Who among Planetouched.

HAR HAR HAR HAR!!!!!! You are talking about that joke I made about the Burrowfoot, or Deepfoot, or whatever I called the wandering, subterrainian halflings. I had forgotten about it. Thanks for the laugh!

Didn't you know the new 3E rule about having at least one new elf race in each new 3E product? There aren't any elves in the Unapproachable East, so they had to pull a whole race from another dimension!

Okay, before this turns ugly. :)

I agree that their should be more exposure for dwarves, gnomes, and halflings. There is a whole halfling nation to the south and the only thing I know about them is that they settle somewhere for a year then leave the area nice and tidy for the next group of nomads.

Also, speaking of lost elven kingdoms or founding them. What's up with the dwarves? Throw a stone at a hill and you might find a lost dwarven hold. WOTC should have the dwarves utlize the Thunder Blessing and start taking back what's theirs.

As for the "Hidden Folk". I'm not quite sure. Again, no real source material. 3.5 has taken illusionist away from them. I don't know gnomes anymore.. :(

Actually, Luiren (the halfling nation) was described in a 2nd edition supplement, FR16 The Shining South. It also described Halruaa and Dambrath, among others.

The dwarves were covered in FR11, Dwarves Deep, another 2nd edition supplement. This one did cover the lost dwarven kingdoms.

But I should like to see more. Look at all the elf stuff that we've been given, and then compare that to a 64 page supplement for dwarves...

I'm not knocking elves, mind you, I'm just saying let's see some other races.

Thanks Wooly, unfortunately that's all 2nd edition stuff. I'm sure it is still very good as a resource but there have been alot of changes in 3rd edition and, as we all seem to agree here, dwarves, gnomes, and halflings deserve better than a supplement or a few pages in the FRCS.

Now, now people play nice. It's fine to say you'd like to see more of other races but please leave your flamethrowers at the door, and barbequed elf-lovers will most definitely NOT be on the menu

Personally, I would like to hear from the Iron Legion, or was it the Mithril Legion. The dwarves that were trying to retake Tethyamar. What ever happened to those guys?

Now there is a dwarven epic adventure right there! Of course, now the question is what would be epic for gnomes and halflings? I sense the beginning of another thread.

Wow, VERY interesting stuff. I'll be curious if it's an all out trying to find uninhabited land or to quote a modern rock band, "Take the Power Back."

I can see it starting out benevolent enough, but I can only imagine how the other races, especially humans, would react towards elves regaining power. And the drow? Forget about it. You'd of course have those humans who would try to help them out, like Khelben, but personally I think if the elves of FR really want it to happen that they'll do it for themselves, you know? No powerful allies coming to their aid on this one like in the Archmage Series.

Wow, I'm really digging this series. Each one is making me just want to die waiting for the next. At least we know it is somewhere in what is now the Moonsea (but we don't know how long ago).
Predictions? Are they going to try to rise it using Elven High Magic? Found a "New Braceldaur"? Find out the old one is now a sea elf city, or is even Myth Nantar?
And hey guys, give Ed some time... I'm sure with the amount he writes, he has VOLUMES devoted to the dwarven and halfling areas of the realms. I don't know how much more "crunch" you need for halfing, gnome, and dwarven areas, but Lurien and the Great Rift has a decent amount written on them (they even had a whole series of portals around the Great Rift in Perilous Gateways), and between Races of Faerun and Silver Marches, you've got plenty of "crunch" as far as magic and PrC's go.
I've always gotten the impression there is much more of a diaspora of halflings throughout the Realms, and dwarves are still pretty insular and tend to keep to themselves. Gnomes have dropped off the map, but I'd be lying if I said I personally was that much of a fan.

Myth Nanter is to far south and besides it's in the Sea of Fallen Stars not the Moonsea. :)

for halflings, try an adventure centered around the blickish (found in mythic races, p.30 from the legend & lairs- series (fantasy flight games)). essentially, they are halflings which can dimension door and turn etheral several times per day. itīs some kind of halfling subrace whose ancestor was an celestial (hound archon, if i remember correctly).

start with a pc- halfling party, let them have some race- centered adventures (example: blickish have almost no own communities, so let them find a suitable location somewhere on faerun where no one harasses them and they could settle down...). during the adventures, some of your pc (or all of them) start to discover that they have odd abilities (see above), and after their triumphant return home their elders reveal their secret origin...

granted, itīs a blickish- campaign rather than a halfling-campaign, but as long as you give them only hints about their abilities, it feels halfling-like and should do the trick.

some suggestions:

for dwarven adventures, the Great Rift Portals which is centered around the southern gold dwarves seems not too bad:
http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=fr/pg20020327x
or the dwarven portals- series: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/pg/20030903x

gnomes: the trail of mists from the mintiperīs chapbook- series: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.asp?x=dnd/mc/mc20010829f can be the perfect frame!

Well, the more I see how this story developes I don't think it's actually about the founding of a new elven kingdom so much as it's a story about 4 restless young elves with hopes, dreams and aspirations. As a result of their lofty goal they're going to go out into the world and have a grand adventure. Will they actually suceed in founding a kindom, who's to say? Are we meant to know or will we find out in a couple hundred years. ;)
