| Sarastro07-29-03, 10:00 AM | All elf subraces are capable of breeding with humans and producing distinctive half elfs. (you can tell a gold half elf form a moon half elf). Do different subraces interbreed and on what scale (it would seem more likely than breeding with humans?) and what would they look like? Any thoughts on the matter? Sarastro. |

A moon elf giving birth to a child fathered by a gold elf, for instance, will always result in either a moon elf or a gold elf child. The subrace it ends up as also decides which 'family' it will belong to. There's no known way to discover which subrace a given union will produce. |
| Garnet Hardeon07-29-03, 10:26 AM | If you mean, do the subraces mate among each other, do they produce distinct elves? No. If I remember correctly, when an elf-elf pairing happens, the progeny takes after completely after one of the parents. So with a gold elf-silver elf combo, the child will either be pure gold or pure silver elf. Though they can take after other traits (strength, magical aptitude, etc...) from either of the parents. |
| Sarastro07-29-03, 10:50 AM | I also rememebered something about elf children from different subraces taking after either the mother's or father's subrace. However the current "creation" history of the wood elfs (mixing moon, (sun) and wild elfs) would seem to contradict this. Sarastro |
| Azuth07-29-03, 11:14 AM | If you read the story of the wood elves, it's pretty clear that they didn't suddenly just pop-up. They evolved slowly from a group of elves living as nomads, just like our 'subraces' have evolved over the history of mankind. |

A cool fact about that is that wood elves first started out as green elves, and that green elves were the first elves to enter Faerūn. The green elves split in two group: the wild elves and wood elves. The original green elves were nomadic I believe, which is why the wild elves kept the green elves alias (the wild elves are also the same physiologically as they were way back). The wood elves, however, changed physically by intermingling with moon and sun elves I believe. Which leads me to the following conclusion: the original green elves can evolve/change by intermingling, while the sun and moon elves do not. Sun and Moon elf offsprings always inherit the mother OR the father's genes, not both. It's like they have a switch during conception that indicates which heritage the baby will inherit. It's like their bloodlines are geared to endure and resist any "polluting" genes that might come their way... and in the case that the "polluting" genes are too strong to be resisted, the Moon or Sun elf genes totally pull back, giving the entire floor to the wild, wood or drow elf genes... Funny how it works. |
| Desies07-31-03, 02:32 AM | considering sun and moon elves weren't originally from Faerun they act differently. The green elves (the original Faerunian elves) however produce offspring that have a mixture of the traits much like when to humans of different race breed |
