| Aulnil12-31-05, 10:43 AM | If anyone is familiar with the old 2e Spellbound boxed set (the one that detailed Thay), there was an adventure involving Szass Tam, in which he had Eltab held by the power of an artifact if I recall correctly. Has anyone played this adventure out in their own campaign? What transpired after? Specifically what happened to Eltab? Thanks in advance for any help. |
| Ryltar Swordsong12-31-05, 10:55 AM | It's uncertain if Eltab escaped or not. He apparently escaped, but a demon is rumored to be trapped in his old prison. No one knows if the demon is Eltab or another demon. This info is from the Unapproachable East book. |
| Zevox12-31-05, 11:02 AM | Champions of Ruin has a lot of info on him. He definitely escaped at some point, and is plotting his revenge on the Red Wizards (especially old Szass Tam). Zevox |
| Aulnil12-31-05, 12:51 PM | Ok, so if he escaped, and he's not bound by anyone or anything, what is the potential for him to gate in additional fiends? Is he a Devil or Demon? Isn't he almost on the level with Grazz't? I'd imagine he could easily have an army in Faerun in a few weeks. Any ideas? |
| Zevox12-31-05, 06:51 PM | Hes a Demon Lord of the Abyss, and actually he is bound, just not to a particular location or by the Red Wizards. He was bound centuries ago by the wizards of Narfell and cannot leave the Prime Material Plane. Parts of the layer of the Abyss he ruled were actually fused with the landscape of the regions near old Narfell (including parts of Thay) in the process of this binding - these are called "Demoncysts", and you can read up on them in Champions of Ruin and Unapproachable East. And yes, he is - or at least was, before his binding - almost on level with Graz'zt, Demogorgon, and Orcus (all of whom he was once rivals with). As for him gating in demons, I've no idea wether he could accomplish that or not, or if he would want to. After all, if he were to do so, he may attract too much attention - the Thayans (particularly Szass Tam) are sure to be very watchful for any activty of his now that hes escaped, and if the Mulhorandi, the Witches of Rashemen, or the Paladin-Princes of Impiltur hear of his return (thus far hes kept quiet since his escape to prevent his enemies of learning of it) then they'll no doubt be quite watchful for him as well. Plus a large summoning of demons like that could attract Celestial attention, which would be the last thing Eltab would want, being as how he has powerful enough mortal enemies as it is without attracting planar foes as well. He could possibly free demons from those Democysts I suppose, but how long that would take or how many he could rally in this manner I don't know. Zevox |

He shouldn't stay hidden for too long. Do you recall the artifact Szass Tam was using to bind Eltab? Wasn't it one of the items Larloch gave him? I appreciate the info so far. Thanks. |

Oh now this thread it starting to intrigue me, because I have...certain stuff in Bloodstone Land, Myth Drannor area and Narfell reigon. Eltab is a demon lord? Most intriguing...very, very intriguing. And he's in Narfell you say? Bounded too? Hm... |
| ericlboyd01-01-06, 04:01 PM | He's in greater Narfell ... which is far beyond the borders of modern-day Narfell. --Eric |
| Slime Lord01-01-06, 04:10 PM | He's in greater Narfell ... which is far beyond the borders of modern-day Narfell. --Eric So I was told by someone, I was told more Thay area. |
| Aulnil01-01-06, 04:22 PM | He's in greater Narfell ... which is far beyond the borders of modern-day Narfell. --Eric So, by far beyond, is this in mileage or in the sense that it isn't completely a part of Faerun? I figured you meant mileage, and if so is it to the North and East, up towards Sossal on the old 2e maps. Thanks for the help. |
| ericlboyd01-01-06, 08:35 PM | SPOILERS He's in the Citadel of Conjurers at the Mouth of Moaning Gorge in the heart of Impiltur. --Eric |

Well, I'm not sure about being stuck in Narfell (Champions of Ruin says only that hes bound to "the eastern Realms"), but hes definitely stuck on the Prime in that general area, yes. As for the artifact, CoR says that Szass Tam used the Death Moon Orb to compel Eltab to sit in Thaskoril's Seat (both of these being artifacts he acquired from Larloch), then tried to enslave him using an epic spell called the Ritual of Twin Burnings in conjunction with Thaskoril's Seat. Some adventurers interfered, however, and thus Eltab was set free (Eltab was actually bound to a Demoncyst beneath Thaymount twice previously using a Narfelli ritual: first by the clerics of the God-kings of Mulhorand then later by Jorgmacdon, a Thayan Zulkir of Conjuration. The reason Szass tried his binding was because he realized that Eltab would soon break free of the one Jorgmacdon had set upon him). Zevox |
