| Journeyman Samwise05-03-06, 07:03 PM | So I got a few of the Forgotten Realms books to read over the summer, and my group has agreed to make our next campaign an Epic one. Any suggestions, aside from Undermountain? I think there was an article somewhere on the website about epic adventures in Faerun... |
| Lord Karsus05-04-06, 12:26 AM | -Power of Faerūn. The entire book is about Epic Levels in Faerūn. |
| Aaron L05-04-06, 11:59 PM | -Power of Faerūn. The entire book is about Epic Levels in Faerūn. Er, Id actually say its more about politics in Faerun. |
| Lord Karsus05-05-06, 12:05 AM | Er, Id actually say its more about politics in Faerun. -I don't know, I don't have it. But, it sure was advertised as Epic Levels, Faerūnian style... |
| Kessalin Talira05-05-06, 03:32 AM | It's not "Power of Faerun" in the individual PC power kind of way. It's a book about, basically, empire building, and weilding the kind of game-world power that comes with being nobles, high priests, famous generals, merchant princes, or trailblazing frontier lords. There are ideas in the book for epic levels in Faerun, but it's not the focus of the book. Really, the unspoken focus of the book, in my opinion, is "Here's how to make Leadership REALLY work for your character." Don't get me wrong, there are several epic npcs in the book, including an epic heretical priest of Lathander, a merchant prince, and Inferno, the CR 40 advanced great red wyrm... and with nary a cross-class rank in knowledge (thermodynamics) in sight. :D Interestingly, the Complete Arcane version of Automatic Quicken Spell seems to be turning into one of those dirty little secrets that WotC doesn't want to take credit for. In City of Splendors: Waterdeep, Laeral has Auto Quicken twice, and Inferno does as well. Guess how many spell levels they quicken? If you said 0-6th level, have a :cookie: |

Inferno's stats are on the WotC page in one of the previews for Power of Faerun... Having a CR 40 dragon rampaging across Faerun because he finally fell victim to the dragon rage might make for a merry chase. If you're not going that epic, the same thing happening to Klauth might be a little more reasonable. I'm doing a CR 29 remake of the writeup on page 167 of the FRCS for eventual use in my campaign. |
| NightBreeze05-05-06, 08:28 AM | That craziness with Invhaerno surprised me. What the hell, Eric B. said he didn't use anywhere the Hellfire Dragon from MM2 because of his high cr - 26, and now a 40-cr monster pops up from nowhere? That's the most powerful stated being on Faerun (aside from ioulaum) as accordin to LoD Larloch is only 32, and other powerful are not stated. |
| ikki05-05-06, 03:31 PM | terraseer is pretty high too.. 65 iirc :D One thing that struck me tho, from power of faerun.. or several: *influence.. a real cake on cake for charisma. Get epic and someone casting a cha+200 on you and voila, ~+500 on all diplomacy and related checks..!! *Border kingdoms, a real PK-zone, there warcrafters can go and kill eachother.. unionrealm in faerun. As if there wasnt enough placed for fools to die already, now you can do it in your very own "grand empire".. |

Inferno is a virtual clone of the advanced red dragon in the Epic Level Handbook. I know it's because of average die rolls, but even his hit points are exactly the same. Daurgothoth gives Inferno a run, too; the last stats I saw on him placed him somewhere around CR 49. Still no Terraseer but definitely in the "force of nature/something to not mess with, period" category. |

Larloch has long had the power to destroy Abeir-Toril; he could take Inferno, regardless of what his LoD stats say. That being said, Inferno has been in Faerun for years. The Hellfire Wyrm has not. He wasn't "introduced" into the Realms, like the Hellfire Wyrm would have been - he's always been there. We just got 3.5 stats on him, that's all. Also, Shoon is a 36th level Necromancer Demilich (or possibly Elf with a few weird powers), and the Srinshee was formally a 30th level Chosen of Mystra as of ~500 years ago. Telamont Tanthul is a 35th level Shade.. There are plenty of very, very powerful characters in Faerun. But not as many as some people think there are, proportionally speaking. |

| Kessalin Talira05-06-06, 12:29 PM | -Aw, too bad... ;)I know, it's terrible. My eyes are tearing up just thinking about it. :nonono: :dancin: And now, for my next trick: Some sort of topical relevance in this post! :D What about finding out what moved into Castle Perilous in Vaasa? There's something there that can take down dragons on its own. My vote is for Zhengyi the Witch-King's crowning achievement: The summoning and binding of either an infernal or an atropal. You could also have the PCs confront and destroy the Uluu Thalongh down in Chult. Dinosaurs, diseases, savage tribes of humans and dwarves, maybe a giant (advanced dire) ape thrown in for the Hollywood touch. |

Oh, i know that larloch shoul dreally have a mych higher cr and i know the stats of other powerful characters, however this red lizards beats almost all of them ( according to the stats. we all know that statistics are there only for those who don't read the novels and the old manuals) |
| GothicDan05-07-06, 12:58 PM | I'm not sure what the problem is, then. You know there are NPCs who are of equitable power, or at least close to it in some cases. An ancient great wyrm red dragon SHOULD be one of the most powerful things in the world, particularly one with extra abilities/class levels. :) |
