I am currently working on an epic FR campaign involving the following players
1. Elven vampire (actually the progenitor of vampires due to a curse) rogue
2. Elven ranger
3. Elven mage - will become a High Mage
4. Solar aasimon banished from the heavens

Here is the storyline so far:
Player 1 was a coronal 2000 years ago. City destroyed. Cursed with vampirism by the gods? At present he is in stasis by player 4.

Player 2 and 3 are brother and sister, and the descendents of player 1. When the campaign starts, they will find their homeland also destroyed.

Enter player 4 who will explain to the others who he is, why here, etc. at which time he will take them to get player 1 and start the campaign.

Capaign goals:
1. Find the 3 moonswords
2. Find out who has been destroying the elven cities for the past 2000 years.
3. Quest to Evereska and Evermeet
4. Find out the reason for curse/who from - will lead them to the 9 Hells
5. Travel to Myth Drannor to speak with a baelnorn and find a hidden portal to Arvandor to meet with the Seldarine.
6. Eventually players will become the Chosen of ? gods of Seldarine
7. Begin quest to stop the Final Crown War
8. Travel drow cities to begin Correllon's final cleansing
9. By this time hope to be 30+ level and begin quest to gain divinity
10. Travel to the Abyss to fight Lolth and prevent access to Toril
11. Restore the city of player 1 and restore mythal
12. Retire PC's as deities

All of this will be played in 2ed. I have some of the 3e stuff, but my brain has difficulty with it, so I am attempting to mish-mash as best I can!

Any comments/advice/campaign ideas greatly appreciated in advance!
If you would like to read my 6 page story so far, please e-mail me!

I would start by converting fully to 3ED. I was a huge 2ED fan, but 3ED has so much more to offer.

Secondly... Make sure you include Erevan Ilesere, the elven god of mischief and rogues in your campaign as he can make things much more fun than any other elven deity could.

Thirdly... there are only around 75 or so moonblades left on faerun that are active, so I would scratch that idea, unless you just drop it to 1 moonblade.

Throw in some Copper elves as NPC's and some goodly drow of the goddess eileistree(sp) and you're all set. ;)

If you're really interested in fluff, stick with 2E. The materials for 3E are boring and lacking in anything really new in terms of story/background. And they screwed up (thematically) so many of the FR-specific mechanics that it makes the ease of the core 3E system (BAB, saving throws, etc.) pretty much useless. And if you and your players already know 2E, and you're fluent in it, switching to 3E would just be a waste of time and money. I've played 2E for 9 years and I find it just as easier then any of the "simplified" 3E rules.

I am attempting only to assimilate 3e at this juncture. When 3e has what 2e has to offer in terms of content regarding the Realms, I might consider it. Right now, 3e can only offer rules - very little as far as imaginative roleplaying goes.

I am waiting until the new sourcebook for Lost Empires comes out - so far, little else has caught my attention...

As far as the moonblades go, allow me to clarify - they will be looking for elfblades. The vampire (my NPC) will be searching for the Rulers Blade, with the other two searching for The Art Blade and The War Blade. The vampire still remains as Coronal, and the other two elves are his direct descendents, destined to become Spell-Major and Arms-Major. I hope to restore the city along with its mythal and pave the way for re-population.

Also, none of the players (aside from myself) have ever played D&D, so a lot of the "fact and figures" will be lost on them. However, I still want to create a campaign in line with the game concepts - to a point.

I have info on Myth Drannor and stuff as far as the city and its mythal, elfblades, etc go (with a few tweaks to make them unique). What I am still needing help with is stuff to use as filler. I mean, what kind of mini-quests can I create in addition to the main points, in order to garner the experience necessary to even contemplate trying to prevent another Crown War, battle the Drow, and fight Lolth.

Who might be behind the curse of the vampire? Was it Lolth, or is she in league with one of the Devil Lords and they did it, or...?

Any idea on what Arvandor is like in terms of roleplaying an adventure there? What types of artifacts might be required for the Chosen to become avatars or deities?

What might be required for Mystra to heal the mythal?

You get the idea, I want this to take about a year or longer to actually play out, so throw me your ideas, questions, comments.

All you ask and more can be found in the Forgotten Realms book Evermeet:Island of Elves by Elaine Cunningham. ;)

Finding the Artblade might be a teensy bit difficult because the previous Spell Major went and smashed it while he was defending Myth Drannor. Course, they're high level so they can always make a new one. Or find the pieces and rebuild it. (Imagining PC's looking through Myth Drannor - Is this a piece? No, that's from a moonblade. Is this a piece? Regular longsword. Is this a piece? Frying pan. Is this a piece? It's a demon.)

And GEV is right. Evermeet is gonna be a must have for a campaign like that. As to sidequests, there's the always popular "Go and find my grandson that I didn't know about because I'm sick/dying/bored/dead and I don't want to leave Evermeet without a king. I think my such and such son might know where he lives, but he's hiding out in the middle of the arctic." Might be a good way to get on Amalauril's good side. (I'm working on that campaign right now for a bunch of low level PCs.)

As for the vampire curse, the Fey'ri are very much in style right now. Why don't you have the head of House Dlardrageth whack it on your PC as punishment for wiping out all of his half-demon kiddies? Seems the sort of thing that one of the Daemonfey would do.

Sounds good so far, but...

The elfblades are going to be from another mythal city, not Myth Drannor - I'm only using them for a template.

The side quests I have in mind go along with the story of the players/Solar/Seladrine, instead of becoming involved in the whole Evermeet thing.

I have th Evermeet accessory on back order.

++++

My latest thought is that the Drow and Lolth have done something as unforgivable as they did in the past. This time, Lolth and her priestesses have gained an artifact which they can use to access the Power of the Seldarine, while preventing them access to Toril.
Only by the PC's assuming godhood (outside the influence of Lolth) can they hope to restore the power of the Seldarine. Herein lies the Solar character's role in celestial guidance - he is the only one who knows that the Seldarine already know Lolth's plan. This time, Correlon decrees the destruction of Lolth and those drow who refuse to repent and accept the justice of the Seldarine. This results in a climax to the ongoing Crown Wars. At the completion of the campaign, order is restored, and Ao grants godhood permanently only within the fold of the Seldarine.

What do you think, and is there an existing FR artifact???

Excuse my ignorance, but what are the Fey'ri? Are they the half drow/half demons that WOTC has intoduced? Where can I find info?

I was considering an alliance betwee Lolth and a Lower Planes power - either a pre-existing one or a new creation, and have him responsible for the vampirism (kinda like Orcus being the Lord of the Undead using this as an opportunity to create more???)

The Fey'ri have been around since 2E. Basically, many years ago, the Sun Elves of House Dlargrageth (is it just me or does that sound realy un-Elven?) and a few other minor noble Sun Elf houses set up kip in the elven citadel of Ascalhorn, in the North. They started to summon demons (succubi/incubi in particular) and breed with them, experiment with them, in order to "strengthen themselves." Eventually the generations resulted in the Fey'ri - a true-breeding variety of tieflings, basically, with unique abilities and such, and the tannaruk, a similar group of true-breeding demonic orcs.

Ascalhorn became known as Hellgate Keep and House Dlardrageth was bound into it. Some stuff happened that I'm not entirely certain of, but it eventually resulted in the good guys using something called the Gatekeeper's Crystal to blow up Hellgate Keep, and spreading the Fey'ri and the Tannaruk to the winds. More can be found out about Hellgate Keep and the Fey'ri in the 2E adventure Hellgate Keep. There's also some okay information about them in the Races of Faerun book.

Thanks for the reminder - I forgot about Ascalhorn. Still saving $ for the Hellgate Keep accessory. Are there any 2e stats for them?
GothicDan

12-18-04, 12:50 AM
If they are, I believe they are in Hellgate Keep. I would just run them like tieflings with whatever special abilities you think would be appropriate, which are common for all Fey'ri. For instance, they could all be Tieflings with a +1 on saving throws versus fire, who can use Darkness 15' Radius 1/day, can use Enervation 1/week, and are only struck by +1 or better weapons. Or you could reverse engineer the 3E's Fey'ri stats into 2E rules.

Thanks - I will go with the MOF book and tweak as needed. What would they have been like originally? (Ascolhorn time as opposed to present day?)
GothicDan

12-18-04, 11:04 AM
Well, originally we can assume that they were Neutral Sun Elves who slipped into evil eventually, and started to consort with the demons. Originally, they could have either been normal Sun Elves, and then typical Half-Fiends and Tieflings of various powers/appearances, who basically mated and mated down the years until they produced a stable, self-propagating "genetic" code (race). Thus, the Fey'ri were born.

Any idea what the "first generation" stats would have been like compared to the muted version of today?

The "first generation" fey'ri weren't fey'ri at all. They were daemonfey. Effectively half fiends. Otherwise known as cambions.

I'd love to play in a campaign like that. You're players can expect fun and adventure with the features you've defined.

It's already rich in game-concepts, I'm only offering the following to help with discussion, not to criticise your work.

An adventure that was about some serious threat to the very architecture of the Weave might also be another idea.

Or....*cups chin* one about Elven High Magic and a secret Enclave of EHM Elven Loremasters - who - have a source of Whole Magic and are using it to try to replicate the conditions for a Mythal Casting.

What I want to know is how a 17th level sorceress, even a Daemonfey, managed to manipulate a mythal. Even Halaster, who's been around as long as Elminster, and is a MORE powerful mage, went insane because of messing with one, and was only restored by Mystra's good graces. Many Archanists from Netheril went insane due to trying to create and manipulate mythals.

There's a reason that to be a High Mage you have to be a minimum of three centuries old, and most of the time closing on five centuries old. It took that long to learn the discipline needed to go along with the necessary power. And there's no way a 17th level sorcerer is powerful enough, even if old enough.

Considered the threat to the weave as a plot idea. Was the reasoning behind my hastily posted shadow shard artifact.

*scratches head* What is whole magic? Breif explanation will suffice. Just never heard the term before.

The elven mage will possibly be questing after the lore of high magic also. The high magic spell suyoll might have to be used eventually to remove the vampiric curse and restore the vampire with the Seldarine.

Please give me more suggestions about this secret Enclave. Are they renegades? Have they fallen out of favor with Evermeet/Evereska? How are they able to cast magic? Surely Correllon would not like this type of High Magic. Are they using Mystra's favor instead?

Another idea - how about a plot using descendants of a Netherese archmage trying to find a way to use Elven High Magic to bypass Mystra's restriction against 10th-12th level spells?

The fey'ri have lost the favor of the Seldarine and Evermeet/Evereska. They were imprisoned in the ground for 5000 years by Earrlanni wood elves. they have a special hatred for wood elves. The reason they have magic is because of their demon heritage. I don't know how they're using high magic, but an ancestor of dlardrageth named Saelethil Dlardrageth stored all his knowledge of mythalcraft in a selukiira named the Nightstar. Here's an idea for you. The drow find out about the attack and band with the fey'ri, their like minded cousins. Now that's a campaign.

Any info on the Earlanni elves? Is the selukiira only that, or is it more of an artifact? What does it do, etc? So far, great plot device, just need bit more on these elves and also about feyri. Who is Saelethil Dlardrageth?

Please post - love the idea so far! Perhaps a way to tie in the elf ranger in the party, as well as the elf mage(high mage hopeful)!

The selukiira is can make an apprentice an archmage just from the selukiira. It is a teaching device. but it will only allow certain people to access it's secrets. If you do not pass the requirements, it will leave you a hollow shell and will make you take it to someone who can use it. The Nightstar's purpose is to teach sun elves of House Dlardrageth the secrets of Aryvandaar's high magic. But only a Dlardrageth can use it.

Any information on House Dlardrageth? Is it canon or homebrew? Just wondering, since I've not developed a House name/background for the PC's, although they all descend from the same royal family.

A long time ago, the sun elves of house Dlardrageth consorted with demons to raise their standing the society. Other houses joined with them. House Floshin, House Aelorothi, House Ealoeth. Sarya Dlardrageth is the current leaderof the fey'ri. Her son is Xhalph Dlardrageth.

Sounds like some good NPC's to throw at the players! Don't think it fits in for the players to be from House Dlardrageth though. ;) Thanks a lot - any more info? I have no info on the feyri yet, aside from Monsters of Faerun.

Repairing a mithal in the realms post-Elven Retreat would be difficult at best- there simply aren't that many High Mages left... perhaps with a little help from Mystra and every decently trustworth epic level NPC who can cast so much as a fireball, you might pull it off. Otherwise.... it's a tall order to fill. However, If you recover several selukiira, that'd make it all much easier, as the most powerful contain the abilities of several High Mages; or, perhaps the Artblade that you create could be of help....

I plan on using help from Mystra and Seldarine, as well as selukiira and the elfblades. However, since the PC's have fallen from the favor of the Seldarine, will take a lot of roleplaying to get it done. Eventually, rather than having to use Evereska and Evermeet, I would like a homebrew mythal city that I can use in my campaigns.
