| The Heretic01-14-04, 11:21 PM | I've got a party that's just finishing the City of the Spider Queen module, and they defintely don't want to retire, soooo I'm looking for some epic level inspiration from you folks. I've got a dwarvish barbarian from the ruined dwarfhold Thunderholme (beneath the Thunderpeaks in Cormyr). A sun elf wizard human cleric of Shaundaukul Halfling arcane trickster half-elf rogue all are 17th-18th level, and I've never done an epic campaign before, especially in so complex a setting as FR. |

| J. Grenemyer01-15-04, 12:47 AM | Coincidentally, my group has just begun the last part of City of the Spider Queen, and are all about 17th-19th level. I plan on taking our game into Epic Play once the current story line (the PC Paladin’s quest to recover the Holy Sword of Aumanator) is complete. Here is what I plan to use for Epic Play: The Adventure Path adventure “Bastion of Broken Souls” by Wizards of the Coast. The writeup for Orcus in the BoVD. Demons and Devils by Sword and Sorcery Studios. The Githyanki Incursion scenario as presented in Dungeon Magazine. The Dragon Magazine Epic Adventure “The Storm Lord’s Keep”. New ideas I’m developing from information on an extremely well fortified Illithid City detailed in the Underdark book (I don’t recall the name of the place at the moment) where the goal of the Illithids is the theft and control of all knowledge. This last will be a great adventure hook as there are two Loremasters in my game (one hailing from Candlekeep). My own custom adventure ideas for Zhentil Keep. The PC Monk (a worshiper of Ilmater) was a slave there for 15 years and very much wants to return and end all the suffering caused by that city. As you can see, my Epic plans are based on a mixture of published materials and plot ideas, the later drawn from the in-character beliefs, values and (oft-stated) goals my players have shown (through roleplaying) they want their characters to accomplish. What sorts of goals do your players have for their characters? Do they want to build an impregnable flying fortress? If so, turn them onto the idea of laying siege to the City of Shade in order to make it their new home. Do they want to free all the slaves in Thay? If so, involve agents of the Simbul in your game that have plans of their own for Thay. Even better, include the Simbul herself when the time is right! And let’s not forget about Szass Tam! Do they want to return Myth Drannor to its previous glory and splendor? If so, use Demon Lords from the BoVD, the Shrinshee and maybe even an ancient Sharn or two who like Myth Drannor just the way it is. Do they want to find the lost Sun Elf City floating in dimensional stasis somewhere in the skies over the High Forrest? If so, surprise your characters by having them learn the Phaerim have already found the place, and are slowly draining the magic that holds it in stasis so they can bring it back into Faerûn and make slaves of all the Elves who live there, as well as take all the Ancient Magic the city holds for themselves. And so on and so forth. Hope this helps! :) |
