| Galdor_Ester08-20-04, 11:04 AM | Here is an ideal that you might like to try. I created a "living" dungeon for epic level play. Basically, the dungeon reacts to magic like a virus. Once it has been cast, it builds up an immunity to it. To cast it again, the wizard/sorcerer must overcome its spell resistance to get it off. It forces the wizard to save their bell busting spells for later and rely on creativity. To get the party here, I have an evil wizard (sortof like Halister) as their main foe. Whenever a character would "die" I have them captured by the evil wizard. He puts them in his dungeon and the player creates a new character that has a tie to the previous one (child, sibling, spouse, etc.) and eventually they find and tackle the dungeon to free them from the tortures of the evil wizard. Watcha think? Galdor Ester, he brings bad things to life! |
| AvengedMutablegenus08-20-04, 04:24 PM | Right, well i like "living" dungeons, almost like the borg from Star Trek with it's ability to gobble up magic, however one thing you have to do to avoid it from being ridicoulous and stupid is make sure you have rules for excalty what the dungeon does, with dice, casting time, an acutal roll to see if the dungeon can take the spell and how often they it can do it, otherwise from a players view it justs seems like an impenterable force they can't beat, it also helps DM's not get carried away. I do like the idea though. However this thread is in the wrong place. It has nothing to do with FR , even though the campaign is based in FR. So i'm going to request this be moved to The Epic Level Handbook forum,. In the future check the What goes where FAQ (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=172646) before posting if you're not sure where something goes. Thanks! ~Mutable |
| Galdor_Ester08-20-04, 09:46 PM | Actually it has everthing to do with FR. I have it set in the underdark and it is fueled just like the Drow magic. As far as effects go, I give it a SR of 35 against any spell once cast. You get one freebie and then the rest become incredible hard to cast. Galdor Ester, he brings bad things to life! |
| Cunning Linguist08-20-04, 09:54 PM | Is 35 really that hard to beat at epic levels? One of my players is on level 20, and with her added caster levels, (she uses the old Shadow Adapt, with the old Shadow Adapt feat), she packs a really hardhitting spells.. With a Ioun stone that also adds to chaster levels.. I think she is up in 25, 26 CL.. and with a SR of 35, she would only need 9 or 10 to get past that.. not really that hard, and she's not even epic. |
| thalious08-20-04, 11:12 PM | Also, if the Dungeon is living, what are its stats, since it could be killed. Perhaps, the Dungeon develops resistance to Specific casters, thus if caster 1 casted fireball, but caster 2 did not, caster 2 could still get a freebie as you put it. Could the Dungeon actively defend itself like a mimic or something? |
| Land Outcast08-20-04, 11:20 PM | Most important, How do you stop them from wishing where they need to go? |
| WizO_BigSister08-20-04, 11:29 PM | Could you please make sure that from now on you are talking about a Forgotten Realms dungeon, and that there is a strong FR element in your posts. Otherwise this thread needs to be moved off these boards and to the Epic forums. Thanks  |
