Further more at least half are going to have a reason to stand against the PC's. So, for those of you who have had Epic FR campaigns how do you handle having to deal with all those pesky NPC's? And what if you kill a really important one (like Elminister) what happens? Just curious my group just started a new campaign but I can see it lasting a while. |
| sanishiver07-13-03, 03:42 PM | Ignore, them. That'd be my advice. I never really pictured Epic NPC's as the ones to go and pick fights just because there's someone else just as powerful on the block. On the other hand, if your PC's are intent on making it their business to poke their noses into the activities of said Epic NPC's, then you've every right to dream up a response appropriate to the demeanor of the NPC in question. But even then, there's no reason said NPC should confront the PC's directly, as he or she will likely have contacts and hirelings and followers through which to communicate his or her displeasure. Ultimately, the Realms are REALLY BIG, which means there's room for half a hundred Epic plots and counter plots to go on without most of the known Epic NPC's any the wiser. I guess what I am trying to say is that your PC's ought to be the center of attention. |

| Amoun07-13-03, 06:06 PM | Well I've always complained that there arent enough epic lvl npcs in the realms... but luckily for us... we have plenty of retired parties and npcs... so whenever a new party reaches epic lvls and thinks they are all that... they tremble in fear and **** in their pants when they see a "familiar face." Puts everyone in their place lol.. But most of my Epic Campaigns stretch past faerun, sometimes going to Kara-Tur and nearly always to the different planes. All are full of intrigue... politics, few but very difficult battles, and just fun for every type of player heh |

| orange was the color...07-14-03, 03:41 AM | I thought 84% of the realms was comprised of epic-level characters. |
| thalious07-14-03, 06:06 AM | I bought the FRCS about a month ago and am just getting the party off to a start. Epic won't be an issue for quite a while. The players do have some Epic characters I am going to let them bring in to the FR when the time is right and I have done some more planning. I am not going to go out of my way to have my PCs cross path with every Epic or near epic NPC in the FR. If they seek them out, that is another matter altogher. If my players were to permanantly slay Elminster or Fzoul, I would naturally devise some logical in game consequences good and bad that happen as a result of the loss of such powerful individual(s). NPCs whether "official" or homemade are or should be fair game or dont use them at all. Players hate nothing more than something they have no chance of overcoming regardless of their actions or preparations. |
| Thea07-14-03, 08:26 AM | Hey there, if you want to know more about epic levels, why dont you read the book "epic level handbok" ?? (haven't read all of this thread, so if i'v got somthing rong, Sorry) :D |
| SirUrza07-14-03, 05:44 PM | You can always follow the interesting example set in the novels that a lot of times Elminster is dealing with one extraplanar threat or another. Let's not forget that there are plenty of tough monsters in the Monster Manual 2 that make good challenges for awhile. We've basically made epic level character/npc comrades or rivals were appropriate, but to maintain Realms intergrity, never had a confrontation since you don't have Elminster, Simbul, and Blackstaff teaming up to destroy every Epic evil leader. :) |
