Epic rules in FR [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-18-04, 09:11 AM I dont have the PGtF but i would like to know what is the status of epic rules from the ELH in FR. Is it confirmed as optional (non canon)? If so then the epic sidebar in the FRCS still aplies ? If not, what was the solution then?

05-18-04, 09:19 AM Epic rules in the realms works just like epic rules in epic level handbook. The old system, from FRCS, you can just throw out the window.

05-18-04, 09:37 AM Also, there are some arguments about epic spells, namely, who gets them and who doesn't. Some argue the only classes among Wizards that get Epic arcane spells are the Elven High Mages, and the Netherese Arcanists.

05-18-04, 09:46 AM And the Simbul also gets epic spells....too, actually I don't really get this whole worry about epic spells and think its kind of a sham because its all historical. The original game had max 9th level spells and so did the FR when it first came out. However as a flavor thing it was put in there that once upon a time there were these mystical things called 10th level spells....Now the players commence hounding the DM... Tell me about these 10th level spells... So eventually someone had to come up with a description of these spells (Arcane Age), and an explanation on why no one around today can use them (Karsus)

the new epic spell capability is pretty well balanced and expensive if the DM is really paying attention. It also makes sense that the most high powered magical world of the D+D multiverse would have it. So I would just include it and not worry about it.

05-18-04, 09:53 AM But has the PGtF officialy stated that epic rules (including epic magic) are optional or canon? thats what i really want to know. Also what are the real stats of the epic NPC´s ? the stats in the FRCS or the ELH?

05-18-04, 10:18 AM Okay those two questions I can answer: Epic Rules are canon for FR, and the new stats in the ELH are canon too...until review and updated for 3.5 and the new PrCs.

That's stupid. How can players who want to play another spell casting class have any fun with that? Not only are you limiting what your players can do, your limiting what the DM can use.

05-18-04, 12:05 PM epic spellcasting is for everyone. The epic Red Wizard can get it, the epic Hathran can get it, the epic incantatrix can get it.. any epic spellcaster can therefore get epic spellcasting feat.

Err...does that mean that epic magic is canon too? Has the ban on high power spells (formerly 2ed 10 lvl spells) ended?

05-18-04, 01:25 PM 2.ed 10 level spells are not epic spell. Epic spells are the same thing as True Dweomers spell from 2.ed.
