Everis Cale [Archive] - Wizards Community

I don't know too much about FR and I'm interested in reading the Everis Cale trilogy. I'll probably read Shadow's Witness first, as sort of a prequel. So, my first question is - do I need to read the Halls of Stormweather before shadow's Witness? I hate to buy an entire book for only one of the short stories. Second - are Everis Cale's stats in any of the FR products? I'd like very much to see a write-up of him so that I can begin to get to know the character before delving into the novels.

Evil Genius,

Those stats (one reflective of Cale after the events of Shadow's Witness, and the other after the events of the Cale Trilogy) contain significant spoilers for the novels. I'd recommend reading the books first, then looking at stats.

I put together some stats for Jak Fleet and they appeared in Dragon 277. Those stats were put together as of the end of "Shadow's Witness." He would have gained a few levels throughout the Cale trilogy, but his class makeup (rogue and priest) would have remained the same.

And there is a new set of books coming soon. I can't wait.

Indeed, sir! Shadowbred, book one of The Twilight War trilogy, and featuring Cale and crew, has a release date of November 7th, though I understand from a couple readers that they've already seen copies in stores.

I didn't read halls of stormweather either. If I am missing something, I certainly didn't feel or notice it...:P

I would recomend reading the chapter about Cale at least. It sets the ground work for Cale and why he is a butler. After that the book is about the other people, however you should still read it because it tells you about each persons relationship with Cale. Like his conection to Tazi.

I agree with darkkage. I would read it although it is not essential it does shed some light on Cale's backround. Plus, many of the short stroies are good and most if not all of the Sembian series is of high quality. Mr Kemp's is top of the list. But I also particularly enjoyed Lisa Smedman's book as well as the Black Wolf (I think thats the name).

11-06-06, 10:03 PM Well, I started with the Erevis Cale trilogy and then went back and devoured pretty much every book/short story with Cale in it. I would read the short story in Halls of Stormweather first and, while you're at it, hunt out the short stories "And All the Sinners, Saints" (it was available on the Wizards website but it doesn't seem to be working right now) and another one that has information on Cale before he was an assassin but I can't remember the name. It's in one of my Dragon magazines around here, somewhere.
