I was pawing through this adventure the other day and noticed that there wasn't much advice in the book on how to incorporate the adventure into the Realms.

I've been considering using the adventure in my drow super campaign, but I'm not sure if I should have this adventure take place before or after Lolth's Silence.

I initially thought that it would better fit in before Lolth's Silence because that's when the Demonweb Pits were still in the Abyss and the plot of the adventure would make more sense, but in the Realms portion of the Envoy of Lolth's monster entry in the back of the book it says that aspects of Lolth and Envoys of Lolth didn't appear in the Realms until after Lolth re-emerged from her silence.

What do you guys think?

I think it plausable to work the story into the Realms after her silence. You can do something similar to what was done in the War fo the Spider Queen Books if you read those to the end. Ultimately it would get them to the new Demonweb Pits.

But doesent the described demonwebs differ from the adventure book... I thought there were barren plains with BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF SPIDERS (of all shapes and sizes) and the actual demonweb 'pit' was surrounded by mountains and the city was a giant spiderweb overtop of a huge pit?

Remember that the adventure focusses on just one part of the Demonweb, which is infinite, as per description. Furthermore, the FR Demonweb and that of Coreland does not need to look like one another. (Never got my head around that huge walking coppery spider thing (Wild Wild West springs to mind these days). Can't recall how Lisa Smedman described the new Demonweb in Lady Penitent I right now.

As for the envoy ... sub her with a yochlol cleric 10 or the like. Maybe TDotUD will have the Aspect of Lolth too, which was omitted from this book for no other obvious reason, I would guess.

Thankfully they went with "no giant mechanical spider" as a specific design point in the new book. ;)

What was it again that happened with Danifae towards the end of War of the Spider Queen?

She took on some kind of 'chosen of the diety' role, would you imagine someone like her would conceivably play a part in a Demonweb Pits adventure set in the Realms?

Come to think of it, PCs in the FR-version of the Demonwebs could even run into the Petitioner spirit of Pharaun Mizzyrm. Mechanically, that's probably questionable, but hell, there could be a hook there somewhere. Though personally, when doing FR, I try to keep encounters with novel characters to as much of a minimum as possible.

Danifae spoiler
She became the 8th and final aspect* of the new Lolth - so in essence was THE Chosen of all those happening along.

IMHO, she and Valas are archetypical drow of the FR. The rest played the noble mind games et al.

*not related to the new avatar-style aspect.

Isn't there a small map of part of the Demonweb at the beginning of Resurrection?

I say run it after Lloth's silence.

Graz'zt's plans to take over part of the Demonweb can be supersized to fit the Realms, such that he's instead going to try and undercut Lloth just after her efforts to relocate the Demonweb so as to take it over and perhaps elevate himself to Deity Status on the process.

:::::::::::::::::::

I really like this adventure, btw. Sure it's got crappy Planescape stuff in it, but even I have to admit that doesn't necessarily detract from the book.

Good colors, great cover art, decent interior art, lots of useful info (like a whole bunch of monsters)....yeah, I might use (some of) it in my Realms campaign.

Coming to think of it, within Realmspace, it might be used just before the Silence and Lolth is doing this "Pact" thing just to keep the others busy. And after the the meeting has taken place / or the adventurers succeed, they notice that the FR Abyssal layer No. 66 has actually been vacated by the Spider Queen. ... and thus an almighty scramble for it begins, with possibly some left-behind daughter (Laveth) wants to claim it for her own, while scores of other Abyssal Lords scramble to gain a foothold.

The Planescape stuff only enhance the things. ;)

You want the best details for the planes, you need Planescape, ya know. ;)
