-I don't see any reason why the other thread was closed. Doesn't seem like we violated any CoC rules, except for branching out on a tangent, which isn't a true violation in and of itself. So, I say, let us continue the discussion!

-In retrospect with everything, I think that an extra-Faerūnian sourcebook would be nice, but isn't necesary. I would buy it simply because it contained new information about Maztica, Kara-Tur and Zakhara. A lot of other people would do the same, probably for the same reasons. But, this sourcebook wouldn't be very high on my list. In other words, I could wait a while for something like this to come out.

-More importantly, I'd be waiting for these future sourcebooks:

Elves of Faerūn
Lost Empires of Faerūn, Vol. II
Lands of the Genies: Calimshan
WhrenKehrsyn

Id love to see a book with information on Maztica. Though an Extra-Faerun book can wait until other other regions of Faerun proper have been given thier due I think. Theres always the possibility that other regional books will include write ups for these other areas as well, for example, Amns holdings and interests in Maztica may mean an Amn book could include Maztica information.

In any case my wish list has a book with the Moonshaes, and an updated Cormyr book. I love the Dalelands so Id like to see something on that region, but for now my 2e stuff is just fine for that.

Pehaps Demihumans of Faerun would be the way to go? Make it mostly about the elves because people like them the best, then a meaty section on dwarves and lastly a section on hin and gnomes - after all they dont mind getting the short end of the stick...

other books I'd buy:

Realm of Chivalry: Cormyr
Lands of Intrigue
Danger and Deception: Dragoncoast
Faerunian Vanilla Regular: Dalelands and Heartlands

If it was well-written, detailed, full of lore, and had some actual in-game reasons for the new cosmology, I'd be happy enough with the Tree. :)

-That would be nice. As Ricky would say, WotC's "Got a lotta 'splainin' to do!"

How about one on giants in Faerun, kind-of like Serpent Kingdoms?

Well, if they did a sequel to Lost Empires they could delve into the ancient giant empires, if they did that I would literally hum with pleasure.

I would flip out if they made a Skull Port book but it probs wont happen.

Best I can hope for is maybe books for the Western Heartlands and Dales.

A monster races book (including giants, orcs, goblinkin a bit about their history and what have you) would be diamond, it could update the Kingdom of Dark Arrows and even feature a bit on frosties and The Shining White.

Since I read The Alabaster Staff part of me wants a Unther vs Mulhorand adventure *slash* regional sourcebook. A series of linked (if you want them to be) encounters and adventures with maps and descriptions of important local people and things so as the DM you can run a resistance/freedom fightery smuggley campaign. Plus more Church of Tiamatt goodness. :)

Yes, those all sound like great ideas as well, even though I admit my perspective of Faerun might not be as immersed as many, I guess.

Yeah, ancient giant empires might be interesting, but I'm also thinking about their situation(s) as per the current year(s) in the Realms.

-Well, there is that Sithyllian Empire. How it might relate/relates to ancient Giant Empires, I don't know...

Anyways, does that relate to the Monster Manual sub-species of giants or only select ones?

It already has. This 2E product was written by Joseph Wolf and is rules-light and hence easily applicable to 3E. Similarly, Skullport has been expanded somewhat in Eric Boyd's recent "City of Splendors: Waterdeep" accessory.

I so agree.
"I would want to see a Cosmology of Faerun book."
Dan has a point. This is a needed book. Nothing much is written on the new cosmology, some official material would be nice.

-I don't know the first thing about said Giant realm. It's expanded upon in Power of Faerūn, which I have yet to purchase. Hence, I haven't been able to read up on it. I just recall it because of it's strange name.

Someone asked about a sourcebook on the creator races in another thread. That could be the basis for this 'Lost empires of Faerun II'. I'd buy it.

The Faerunian cosmology book would have to be pretty special for me to ditch my manual of the planes and switch to the tree. Although I have to admit I really haven't given the existing material (Player's guide to Faerun?) a proper glance yet. I think I'm too much attached to Sigil. Actually I don't know if it still exists in the tree or not...

I probably wouldn't buy 5 books, each dealing with one race. But if they made one book, thoroughly featuring the nations and history of dwarves, hin, elves and gnomes in Faerun, I'd buy it. (And some minor races) As it is, the non human nations in Faerun are sparse and bear too little pages. Lantan and Evermeet spring to mind.

-I'd go for something like that, but the problem would be that certain species would not get enough written about them. Races like the Elves, and Dwarves could have entire books written about them. How thick would a Demihumans of the Realms book be if all of the information that Elves and Dwarves deserved was included. It would be too big! And, if they sized it down a bit, then Elves and Dwarves wouldn't be getting their due.

-Also- and I revert back to this argument- Halflings and Gnomes don't have much history. They are called the "Forgotten Folk" for a reason. Throwing them in with Elves, and Dwarves would take up valuable space that would be needed to better detail the Fair Folk. Oh, and Dwarves too...

But hin are nice folk too! :weep:

I think it's a degree of detail I feel comfortable with. 100 pages on elven history and elven nations is what's readable for me. They don't have to rewrite what's in books like races of Faerun. It would be a great leap forward on those 2 pages on Evermeet in the FRC.
Ah, it's probably a money thing. Five books would be too expensive for me, the money/desired-lore ratio no longer feasible. But I know that's a personal thing.

-I have nothing particularly against Halflings, or Gnomes. Dwarves is another matter, but I won't get into that.

-The average 3e FR supplement is about 200 pages long. If 100 pages are dedicated to the Fair Folk, that's more than 1/2 the entire book. Let's say that Dwarves get 50 or so pages. We are now at 3/4 of the total page space. So, this leaves about 25 pages or so for the Halflings and the Gnomes. I just don't think this is enough space to do justice to the Halflings, or the Gnomes. If this is their sourcebook to shine, then let them shine.

-I agree that a sourcebook for each distinct race would be too expensive. Perhaps two books would do: Elves of the Realms and N'Tel'Quess of the Realms. Makes sense!

-No, seriously, perhaps there could be two books, along the lines of Elves/Dwarves and Halflings/Gnomes.

Even the complete guidebook for gnomes and halflings in 2e was one combined book for the two of them. Elves received their own, as did dwarves.
