Priest_of_Shaundakul 04-22-06, 04:19 AM	Well, FR has been around much longer, so it makes sense that a few games will have been out there :) Asides from that, Eberron is fairly new, still getting it's footing in the PnP gamer community so to speak. Asides from an MMORPG, there isn't any other PC game based on Eberron to play at the moment. --- As for Advanced...do you mean technologically, magically, or socially? Cause we can go all sorts of ways with this. :cool:

Dark Wizard 04-22-06, 04:25 AM	Not quite understanding your question, but if I had to guess, you are asking why FR seems to be the only setting with some focus on Drow and have Drow of advanced levels and sophistication? That is simply because: - FR has been around long enough to have many varied stories told within the setting, some of which include Drow. - Drizzt struck a chord with readers early on and has become a very popular character who inadvertently enhanced (and perhaps over-inflated) the prominence of Drow in the setting. - More or less, the Drow have been good to the Realms and the Realms have been good to the Drow. Drow are heavily tied to history of the Realmsian Elves, which in turn play a very visible and influential role in FR history in general. - Eberron is consciously going for low level play, this extends to lower level NPCs, the Drow are no exception. - Eberron's designers purposely wanted to differentiate their Drow from what FR has done before, so they made them more savage, at least that is my understanding of the matter. - Eberron has Changelings, Shifters and Warforged to deal with, leaving little room for Drow. Is it necessary to delve deeply into more Drow in another setting already with its own rich set of races? Another part of your question seems to be why FR has all the CRPGs. Again, FR has been around long enough to have developers interested in the setting license. The Realms has been published for around 20 years (computers and games being around for the entire time), Eberron is only 3-4 years old. Seeing as it takes at least 1-2 years to make a good computer game from scratch, add in more time for WotC to pitch the setting to developers and time to sign contracts and agreements, you can do the math...

Dark Wizard 04-22-06, 04:45 AM	I didn't forget, read my post again, while I didn't outright mention the other more influential groups, I said drow account for only some of the stories told in FR and that Drizzt is just happened to be one of the more prominent characters that often leads to the common perception of a drow heavy Realms. If anything, surface elves are represented more in Realms sources and publications, right behind wizards in general, especially Mystrans.

Dark Wizard 04-22-06, 04:58 AM	The original DL stories are great, I'm glad they revived the setting for the new edition. Makes little sense not to with the huge library of DL stuff from previous editions and the corresponding popularity. FR is a large and detailed setting, it will take a while to get even the basics, but its fun doing so. Best part is that no one knows absolutely everything about the Realms, so the fun never ends.
Wolfboy 04-22-06, 05:14 AM	I tried something new with my players at a sessoin once..campaign skipping, its hard yet funny, one min. they are fighting a red in Krynn, the next making friends with another red in Eberron, or getting help from Drizzt one moment, the next they are fighting Rasitlin(and losing I might add)..Its hard but hilarious.:looloo: like so... :fight!::dragon:..in Neverwinter ten rounds later.... :fight!::invasion:...(PC's vs. Nerakian Knights)

BrianCritchley 04-22-06, 03:11 PM	FR isn't BETTER, but it may simply appeal to you more and thats the intent of multiple settings, differnt feels to allow for differnt approuches. what'd be the point of publishing multiple settings if they where all the same. thus the reason forgotten realms seems better to you is simply because it's more in long with your tastes. as for why the drow are more prominant in FR. as has been said it boils down in the end, simply to the fact that RA Salvatore created Drizzt for a forgotten realms novel. had RA Salvatore created Drizzt for another setting, drow wouldn't have been near as prominant in FR. Ebberon's differnt view on dark elves is in fact proably something of a reaction to this popularity and a desire to "do something differnt and against the norm" with them. Ebberon is a great setting if you want something truely differnt. Forgotten realms is much more tradtional. or as a critic of the setting might say "cliche" (ignoreing the fact that cliche's stay with us because they tend to evoke powerful responses. Campell's Hero with a thousand faces explains this pretty well. )
