| Evandar_TAybara04-17-07, 08:59 AM | I'm running Terry Brooks' High Druid trilogy as my current campaign, and was wondering if there was any equivalent of the Forbidding in Faerūn? For those who don't know, the Forbidding is a kind of mirror of the real world where a whole bunch of nasty creatures/races/monsters were locked away long in the past. The only thing I would need in a Faerūn equivalent would be some sort of dimension somewhere that is unaccessable through any normal means (including planar travel). Not sure if anything like this exists in Faerūn, but I though I'd ask. If not, I guess I'll just make something up :) Cheers, Evan. |

Only things I can think of that come close offhand though, but they don't really seem to fit the bill for what you're asking for. Kinda suspect you're going to have to make something up. |

Yeah, I guess this isn't too far off what I need, except for the amorphic nature of the place - I guess if there's nothing else closer then I can just assume that one of the layers of the Far Realms is a mirror of the material plane and adapt it as needed. Guess it's time I got myself another source book... So, what's the best source for Far Realms material? Is it covered much in the Manual of the Planes? |
| MarkusTay6304-17-07, 07:40 PM | I have a plane called 'Fantasia' (real original, I know) that is actually three demiplanes connected - The Region of Dreams (MotP pg.201), The Nightmare Lands (2e Ravenloft boxed set), and Fäerie (where Daydreams come from). It wouldn't be too hard to figure that monsters could be locked away in the Nightmare Lands. Also, there is a place called The Shadowlands which is in 3e OA, but technically that is part of the Rokugon setting. However, it does sound similar to what you are seeking and probably wouldn't be very hard to convert - just figure the part of it touching Rokugon is the OA part and there are other sections of that plane that have more normal (European-style) monsters in it. I probably wasn't much help, but that's all I can think of. Ed's original concept for the Realms was an 'in-between' plane similar to the Woods between the Worlds. I'm not even sure where that is from, but it sounds like a cross between Narnia and the border Ethereal (the Mittlemarch in Moorcock's novels). |

If not, I guess I'll just make something up :)Many extradimensional spaces of different kinds have been used to seal up things people don't want, just as they're used as safeholds, refuges and caches. The Far Realm isn't something I'd have subject to human use.Ed's original concept for the Realms was an 'in-between' plane similar to the Woods between the Worlds. Lewis in The Magician's Nephew. |

There isn't a definitive source on the Far Realm. Details about this particular plane are scattered through various sources across several editions of the D&D game -- The Illithiad and Volo's Guide to All Things Magical, in 2e, being two examples, and City of Splendors: Waterdeep being another for 3e. |
