Recently I've been asked to run a campaign involving the chidlren of a group of PC's children from a previous campaign. After doing some figuring, it appears that theearlier possible year I could begin the campaign is 1380, since the current year is the realms product wise is 1374 I'm currious what changes those one this Forum would suggest that I impliment? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thats a tough one. You have to figure some brewing situations will be settled. Such as whats going in Hillsfar, the hostilities in Amn with the Stinger Wars etc, has Mulhorand annexed all of Unther, whats the deal with Shade, etc.

Yes, exactly...there is a tremendous amount going on in the Realms at this time, and six years could make a big difference. Luckily, I can concentrate (at least initially) one a limited area of the Realms. Thus far, the PCs are from the following locations: One from Tantras, two from Ravensbluff, two from Cormanthyr, one from Waterdeep, and one from Orlbar. Thus, I believe that initially I won't have to deal with the issues in southern portion of Faerun...However, the area in the Moonsea, Cormythar, and Hillsfar might have a big impact on the campaign.

Well the interesting thing from your point of view is we don't know whats going to happen. So you will get to decide not the authors of FR novels.

One thing is sure - this is an era that show very well that Forgotten Realms is clearly NOT a static setting.

Lot of changes to come...

The problem comes... when our campaigns take a different direction than that set by the developers.

As a player, I will help the DM bring the game as far back toward "standard" as possible, but there are limits.

Nothing has changed for Tantras since the dead magic zone was installed some time ago so it would be safe for Tantras to be like it was before. Though perhaps a Manshoon clone has taken up residence in Tantras to avoid the need to kill other clones that get close. Who knows what his plots would be?

Have Sembia annex Featherdale, Tasseldale and Archendale. The drow of Cormanthor would still be a problem for the dales and each other. The Zhents would have likely cemented control of the Moonsea area. (pick up Cloak and Dagger if you can). Perhaps a new Mantled King could emerge out of Battledale to unite the dales.

Do you have City of Ravens Bluff Campaign Accessory? It's a must have for anyone traveling though Ravensbluff. In the wake of the events of the City of Ravens Novel I figure the merchants council would be dissolved and certain noble houses reinstated. With a Moonsea secure I'd imagine the Zhents represented by Mulmaster might send an army south. Certainly the Vast would be a good area for the Zhents to turn their attention to.

Cormyr I'd imagine would still be recovering and doing a good job of keeping it's borders secure.

The only recommendation I have for Waterdeep is to blow it up. That was the only good use I had after reading the Campaign Accessory on it.

I'd ignore all the stuff about the shadow weave and whatever events are going to play out in the big adventure books coming out.

Anyway, those are my suggestions.

What could you do?

Thayen Enclave mayhem:
Several Enclaves have splitoff from Thay to form their own faction.

The Black Crusade:
The Bane/Cyric holy war and all the resulting Chaos.

Look Ma I'm sane:
Halaster is sane, what does this mean for undermountian and waterdeep?

Volo's guide to...
Volo needs some adventurers to help with his newest project.

Thank you all for you suggestions and help. Believe me when I say that every suggestion will receive due consideration. I find that when I have others input into my adventure and campaigns that they turn out far better than they woudl have with my input alone.

jarlaxe and enterni (sp) are in damara and the vast right now, give them 6 years who knows what would happen there might be a new leader in competition with the zhents for that area if the zhents try to move in. the elfs have stopped retreating bringing large changes to cormanthor and the drow there and probably the dales, remember in the books the elfs were battling sembian merceneries

btw i love the idea that hallister has turned sane

If you are in the Hillsfar area, you must realize that from the last mythal trilogy: Cormanthor is restored and under control and Hillsfar is controlled by the Zhents I believe. Also, not too far to the west, the High Moor is no more, replaced by another budding nation apparently looking to build on the Cormanthor tradition. Also, how old will the new Obarskyr be? Not quite adventuring age probably, but old enough for people to be enacting plans and plots... Just thought I would throw in a few scraps. Don't forget, WotC themselves have said the period of time starting with year of lightning storms and for a little while afterward will be very turbulent. So you can expect many extreme deviations from anything you change or even plan to leave the same.

Some things I would implement would be that a very secretive assassin (say from the Garrote in the epic level handbook) has killed a couple of Chosen of Mystra creating alot of Chaos, say El, Simbul, and Alustrial... get those cities they had are struggling to maintain order for the characters. Which has ALOT of impact on the realms in general as well not just their repective cities.

Ched Nassads main Army has survived and is searching for a home I'm working on a campaign revolving alittle around this as well... could be interesting.

Waterdeep has fallen unexpectadly to Neverwinter when their king got corrupted by an evil force, and somehow got his army to waterdeep so quickly using portals before they could muster an effective defense.

Evereska is the last safe place for Elves because Evermeet came under attack by the elf eater because Malar got slighted by Corrollen :) and they are now just a fraction of their former strength.

OR on Evermeat (heh heh)

The Drow with an alliance of mindflayers and beholders (using the beholders to blast tunnels to get under evermeet finally mounted a huge offensive against the elves and evermeet is now under seige.

Just some idea's I've tossed around in my head from time to time when I got bored... Why can't an evil force win from time to time?

Yea, like they could kill the Chosen of Mystra without magic and/or magical items, never forget that Mystra will never allow her Chosens to be destroyed without completing their mission.

Ched Nassads main Army has survived and is searching for a home I'm working on a campaign revolving alittle around this as well... could be interesting.

Ched Nassad's army (like that of any drow city) was composed bt the individual armies of the noble houses, the attack completely destroyed the city and more than 90% of it's population.

Waterdeep has fallen unexpectadly to Neverwinter when their king got corrupted by an evil force, and somehow got his army to waterdeep so quickly using portals before they could muster an effective defense.

A small city's army against the mighty forces of Waterdeep and the Lord's Alliance, not counting that the moment Lord Nasher Alagondar becomes corrupted, the local priests and paladins of Tyr will find a sollution before anything truly bad happens.

Evereska is the last safe place for Elves because Evermeet came under attack by the elf eater because Malar got slighted by Corrollen :) and they are now just a fraction of their former strength.

Malar,:rofl::rofl::rofl: :rofl::rofl::rofl: :rofl::rofl::rofl:, clumsy lesser power that can't even do anything right. Corellon is a Greater God with far more power that you can imagine, his followers aren't only those in Toril, he is a multispheric god, while malar is a minor faerūnian god.

Evermeet is protected by powerfull forces that can sleep while the Elf Eater appears, the only thing needed is just a simple High Magic Ritual cast by Queen Amlauril to completely obliterate the Elf Eater.

The Drow with an alliance of mindflayers and beholders (using the beholders to blast tunnels to get under evermeet finally mounted a huge offensive against the elves and evermeet is now under seige.

Only non-drow elves can enter the island if they have the intention of harming it, the drow that attacked the island in Evermeet: Island of the Elves could not enter, not even Lolth could, and she is a godess.

Why can't an evil force win from time to time?

Because the forces of good have weapons too, and unity greater than any force of evil, they are willing to risk their lives to stop evil from doing harm, it's not like the real world where most good people are completely defenseless against a simple broken bottle of glass or bare hands.

As much as I agree with what you say, Alediran, I don't think it was the intent of this thread to shoot down other's ideas (however mis-construed).

The one BIG problem I see developing in the near future is problems between the Zhents (who's actions have always appeared chaotic-evil) and Thay, who are very well regimented (lawful) despite their internal fragmentation. Thay's ever-expanding mercantile interests have already given them a foothold in the Moonsea region (Mulmaster); something I fear the Zhents will strongly resent (or would that be reZhent?). ;)

Attacks on various Thayan enclaves by Zhents or by others hired by Zhentil Keep could lead to some VERY interesting advetures, with groups like the Harpers having to side with the law-abiding Thayan Enclaves.

For more ideas about things that may be developing around the Realms, see my "plot Hooks" thread. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=845973)

Not to mention the fact that Neutral forces tend to prefer dealing with Good usually - they don't try usually to backstab you and all.

As much as I agree ith what you say, Alediran, I don't think it was the intent of this thread to shoot down other's ideas (however mis-construed).

I'm not against ideas, I'm against ideas that harm the setting just because somebody doesn't like it. I preffer ideas that are made taking into account what we already know of the realms including the tiniest (sp?) of details to show why it works. For example (and this is for those who want to give ideas):

During 1379 DR the city of Silverymoon was destroyed by a small group of Sharran clerics from within the city.

Is that possible in the context of what I said? Having that little information not only tells me it's impossible because: there is a Mythal that prevents evil people from entering the city, there are many powerfull adventurers living in it, there is a powerfull army of spellcasters, etc...

What if I said this?

During 1379 DR the city of Silverymoon was destroyed by a small group of Sharran clerics from within the city. What happened was thought to be possible because since 1372 DR Sharran activity was detected near the city, the first hint was an attempt to weaken the city's mythal to allow an army of orcs and goblins inside the city, they were stopped by a group of adventurers, but another group of sharrans acomplished the feat while the adventurers were distracted (standar procedure for Shar) with fake activity.

After that weakening, several members of the church of Shar seduced/murdered prominent citizens to further weaken the city, common people thought that they were unfortunate accidents and nobody cared much about it, while the secret was kept hidden by the city's rulers.

<Add many plots to continue with the crippling work knowing that most will be stopped and only a few will succede, that is why the destruction took almost a decade of continual effort from the Sharrans>

Isn't that much more acceptable?

The idea of this thread was to give idea's on what to change within FR itself 6 years in the future to what any source book has written for I was just giving idea's how ever "mis-construed" they were... I didn't go into detail because that was not requested... just what would some changes that "could" occur.

Apparently you don't understand the term Army... It also could mean a large body of people... so how about this way.

The majority of Ched Nessad's Drow survived and are now marching looking for a new home... Hows that... better?

It's the same, most drow citizens of Ched Nassad where killed during the destruction, there are just a few left.

a resurgance in shades power after locating a relic of shar, which was thought to have been destroyed shorty after her first battle with selune. results in the shade lords wresting control of the shadow weave from shar herself.

shars church falls into complete chaos. while the massive increase in power allows the shades to melt the high ice in 2 weeks.
anauroch is turned into a swamp, and the whole area to the west, (sword coast, amn, water deep) is dropped into a drought.

this leaves them totally impotent when a massive shade army bursts forth from the ruins of tilverton and cormyr falls within a month. the obarskyrs and a few of their most faithfull are currently hiding in the swamps like outlaws fighting a guerrilla war against the forces of shade.

sembias shock at the fall of cormyr made them act hastilly in dispositioning their forces to counter the percieved threat from the west and the zhents took advantage now the eastern 3rd of sembia lies under zhent rule and the sembians are embattled. on both sides.
the dales cannot act in their aid because the shades have driven a wedge between them.

it is the partys job to put things right.
I hope that is cataclysmic enough for you.
Blake_Alexander

06-07-07, 10:36 PM
Quite cataclysmic :) It would defintely rework the face of Faerun into a much darker image of itself. They are very interesting changes indeed, requiring some significant power on the PCs part. I'll keep these in mind for future challenges. Thanks!
