| greatestDM03-13-04, 02:11 PM | I have looked, but I haven't been able to find any history or writing on the ways of games played in Faerun. Mainly gambling games. I was going to have my players play a game and bet magic items. First off, is this a good idea? And second, I wanted to play either poker or cribbage, is there any history on a game in Faerun and what is it? Thanks in advance. |

Draughts, which is checkers. Old Men's Bones, which is pick up sticks. Table Dice, which is backgammon. A Talis Deck for games such as whist, poker, talison, elemental empires, and old wizard. I'm not sure what half of those are though. :) |
| Faraer03-13-04, 02:36 PM | The idea of gambling with magic items sounds, above all, decadent. It doesn't appeal to me. We know quite a few games played in Faerūn -- Card games: Archers, Chase the Dragon, High Dragon, Smashcastle, Swords, Swords and Shields Dice games: thabort, Traitors Heads, Wheel-of-Spells Board games: chess (and lanceboard), chethlachance, fiveknights, shirestone Other games: jacks, tag, shove-skittles, Toss the Dagger |

The situtation is that the players have been taken captive. They are being used as decoys to lure in a greater being. They need to look as if they are normal with weapons and such so they fit in to how they normally appear. Their guard becomes bored after several days wait and wants to gamble (he's very abid at it too). Gold isn't on his list. Maybe this clears a little bit up. :) |
| Dargoth03-13-04, 05:50 PM | They also play Russian Roulette... but you need a Deck of Many things to play that :D |

In the last gaming session that we had, my party and an NPC played a game of Baldur's Hold 'Em (i.e., Texas Hold 'Em). ;) Ryan |
| Evil O03-17-04, 08:51 AM | In my old Dms time, he created many odd games, here are some of them: Kiss the Spider; You take a poisinous spider put in a cage with an opening on one side and bars on the others(or other creations) and have teh player kiss the spider for as many times he wants. The betting is every time he kisses he can chose to go "dobbel or nothing". The thing is that the spider has a paralysing poison and if the player dont save and is paralysed the spider is very likely to bite again, if that save is also failed you are ***kd' Dodge the bolt: Seven crosbows are put in a rack and the player is put in front of them (all of them are able to hit him) he then says how many he bet he can dodge and then he himself presses a botton and all the seven bolts are fired. If the player succseeds in dodging the agreed upon number he gets the number back x 3 in gold(or whatever the city uses) None of the bolts are normally poisoned, but maybe if the player wishes?? it must give better odds! Catch The Dart: 2 players are set in front of each other 20 ft. appart. both have 1 dart. A third person counts down from 5 and at the count of 1 both players throw thier dart at the other. If one player is hit by the dart he is out and losses his money. If one catches the dart he gets the other persons money and his own x 2. If both players catches the dart then both gets the money back x 2. Oh, did I mention that both players only wears thier outer clothing, no armor!! Evil O |

| Lashan03-18-04, 11:53 AM | I know that Volo's Guide to Cormyr had a few games listed, including Traitor's Skull (a dice game). I would recommend a 3rd Party Product. I do believe that there is a product called Tournaments, Fairs, and Taverns that has a great list of all types of gambling/drinking games. It's easy to transport them into FR and even regionalize them if you want. I've put the game Trollbrige (trolls and dwarves) in the Vast, to symbolize the decline of the Stout Folk in the Vast. Of course, if there is a dwarf present, it's called trolls and kobolds. |
| Red_Decker06-01-04, 11:51 PM | Is the Faerun version of poker played the same way and is it called the same? Also, you can't forget Sava. http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
| Kuje3106-02-04, 12:00 AM | BTW since this was bumped, Ed has given us two card games and they can be found in my file that contains all of his answers that is in my SIG or my FAQ. |
| Lancelot367906-02-04, 12:44 PM | Ok, so I can be a geek, but I think that the players should introduce the guard to a new game called "Fizzbin." "Fizzbin." Fizzbin is purported to originate on the planet Beta Antares 4, and is played by dealing each player six cards (except the player on the dealer's right, who gets 7). A second card is turned up, except on Tuesdays. Two Jacks are a half-Fizzbin, but any player with three Jacks is said to have a "shralk," and is disqualified. There are a number of additional rules, and when Kirk asks Spock the odds of getting a Royal Fizzbin, Spock replies, "I have never computed them." These are the only rules that I could find for the game, but it worked for the captain, assuming you want to get out of the cage. |
