Well, see, i don't know if those are breasts or just part of the art.

i have a feeling it is sune in fully battle garb

Best person to ask would be the Artist: Alan Pollack.

I always thought it was Mystra.

Also, who is that on the front of Faiths and Pantheons? Torm and Bane?
Humanculus

I always thought it was Mystra.

My reasons for it being sune are the flowing red hair, the breasts (yeah that is a female so sure isnt lathander) when Sune goes to battle she wears heavy armors to protect herself so that she doesnt scar or leave welts etc...but that is my opinion

See, i don't know though, it has a very elaborant headpiece which I could say is Matizca, or I can see that as Lathander (the armoring looks gold tinted).

If that was a female (mainly Sune) why dress up like that and leave the breast bare? Unless of course your ELissatree, which obviously this isn't. Because, the only way (for me) to tell that may be a beast is because of the light cresent shapes in the center.

Perhaps it's like Alias' second armour. The one that left a space for the clevage which was protected by what seems to be a forcefield. Sexywear, but still protective.

It could just be a powerful cleric (or specialty priest, by 2E terms).

I can't imagine Sune blasting anyone to bones.

Yeah, that's why he said, "If it wasn't feminine..."

Anyway, I had always just assumed that it was a cleric.

I think it's a priest of Amaunator, with the spell Sun Scepter cast (see F&A page 29)
GothicDan

01-02-06, 12:48 PM
The only thing is that Amaunator was dead by the time that book was published - long dead - and it wouldn't make much sense for the book that updated the deities from 1E to 2E to portray the priest of a dead deity.

Possible, but I don't think probable.

Maybe Eric Boyd would know?

I alrdy asked Ed, hoping it'll be a quick answer. :)

Oh I agree, but if you look at the pictures inside the headress somewhat fits and the glowing weapon does match the sun scepter spell.
GothicDan

01-02-06, 04:51 PM
Hm. Perhaps you're right. In any event, hopefully we'll here back from Ed eventually about it. :)

Of course, it could always be a Cleric of Lathander then, considering how close the two religions are intertwined.
Araciel

but 'bane' isn't wearing a gauntlet...i think they are just pictures of divine figures
Kuje31

01-06-06, 09:07 PM
Well here's Eds answer. :)

"January 7, 2006: Hi again, all. Ed tackles Kuje’s ‘quick question:’ “... who that is on the cover of Faiths & Avatars? I always assumed it was Lathander.... Or maybe it's Sune? I figured that it is a deity since the other 2 companion books have images of deities on the covers.”

Ed speaks:

The printout I received from Julia Martin at the time we were writing the book refers to the cover in passing, a cryptic note that can be expanded into proper English to say this:

The bones flying around in the foreground are from an anonymous skeletal undead who’s just been blown asunder by a spell cast by the impressive figure standing backstage right - - who is not a deity at all, but a haughty high-ranking cleric (deity unspecified).

So there you have it. Another little detail of Realmslore from the Master himself.

love to all,
THO"
GothicDan

01-06-06, 09:28 PM
Awesome. Thanks, Kuje.

I vote for a Priestess of Lathander. :)

so we know it isnt a diety now for sure... now who could it be

with all the light and sun related spells it wouldprobably fall into one of these...

Priestess of Lathander? (personally dont see them wearing that style of headress)

Priestess of Amaunator? (headress fits but like was mentioned a dead god at the time of printing)

Priestess of Sune? (in some peoples ideals she is an aspect of the sun gods)

maybe Horus-Re? (not quite egyptian looking but close)

or perhaps some unknown maztican witch (headress reminds me of something from that area)

did i miss anyone?

See, I was considering it was a possible Maztician person because of how she is dresssed, where she is at, etc. Because it's either that, or something of Lathander/Amaunthor (Looks more Dawn'ish then Noon'ish)

Ya know, there's probably a significant number of very minor localized demigods that either aren't technically part of a pantheon, aren't worth mentioning in a pantheon, or are part of a relatively speaking insignificant pantheon --and lots more dead & forgotten gods, for that matter-- that just aren't worth mentioning in print.

It could be some forgotten god long ago deceased.

This is false, because the game designers also know a lot about the covers of thier products. I.E. TSR specifically asked Larry Elmore to not use barbarians on the covers of the North, but he did anyhow except that the barbarian was about to be eaten.

Actually I implyed those gay individuals that has chosen to surgically alter their bodies. I know they should have these rights & wouldn't bar them from it, but to me it still ranks high on my 'Ick' scale. I'm sorry if I insulted you or any other here.

Naw, didn't insult me. I should have put 'Nine Hells' like i intented and you'd of known I was being sarcastic my self.

Me and Daniel where close though, give it that much. Like normal how ever, can never find much of a middle ground

Wouldn't it be awseome to find a transexual wizard of Bane in the Realms? *sigh*

One of the Bond Girls used to be a boy.
Even did a spread in Playboy, you wouldn't be able to tell from a real girl. At least as far as I can recall... was a very long time ago.
But then again, this particular person was slight of build to begin with. Can't remember their name though. If I recall correctly it was one of the girls from Octopussy, but not the main girl.
