Zanan's right, as she is often. RoF is a great book for fluff--I think I'd have a hard time without it sometimes.

09-28-04, 12:02 PM Hey I stayed awake with Races of Faerun ... found it really, really interesting and stimulating :thumbsup: But then again I am a fan of in depth backgrounds and immersive playing and I know this isn't the only way to be. The book won't appeal to everyone, but it does appeal to a lot of us :)

09-28-04, 04:06 PM I personally think that the source material for FR is the best stuff made for D&D as a whole. The prestige classes are always so well thought out, the peoples, places, mysteries, and magic well put together. I get excited when i see a new source material book for FR coming out, Ive been a fan of the realms for 14 years now and love learning all I can about everything that happens there and all its special places.

Forgotten Realms is a great campaign setting and its books are invaluable to putting together a True Realms style campaign.

Im kind of dissapointed they will start to focus more on Eberron now.

09-28-04, 04:31 PM Races of Faerun is one of the best FR products ever done! It has so much to it. I think that detailing the human cultures is the best thing that they have done since the Faiths and Avatars series. Also, many of the conflicting histories were corrected in this book. This is one motherload of a source book, and it is even 3E.

09-28-04, 09:09 PM Races of Faerun is pretty good fluff for 3E. While I wish it had been more in depth (mmm, Elves of Evermeet, the Complete Book of Elves, and Cormanthyr: Empire of the Elves), I do think they did quite well with the amount of room they had, considering they put a bunch of races into one book. Mind you, I want one big honking 300+ page book on each race, but that's never going to happen. :D

And, darn it all, WoTC, stop printing Prestige classes! And feats! And stats!! It'll give you more room for fluff!

10-02-04, 09:58 AM There's an irony that there's one Realms race book and several D&D race books for commercial factors, yet the reverse would be more appropriate artistically based on the information that's available and called for.

Despite the perception of some, there isn't a great deal of good elflore in print outside novels (Elminster in Myth Drannor, Elfshadow, Evermeet, Forsaken House, etc.). Elves of Evermeet is flawed; PHBR8 The Complete Book of Elves isn't Realmslore at all (except in as bits of it have been made such); Cormanthyr has relatively little about what elves are like in the modern Realms.

Dwarves easily merit their own book, an expanded FR11 Dwarves Deep. So do halflings and gnomes between them; the main book on Realms halflings (GAZ8 The Five Shires) was written for another world and is relatively little known. Etc.

Well, the good thing about the Realms is we always get another chance to fix the errors, so the Miyeritar being destroyed by the elves of Ilythiir snafu will no doubt get fixed as soon as the next opportunity presents itself.
