I do not know enough of what any of you are talking about when you mention topics such as: level 20 epic or NPC or any of that sort. I do know of Forgotten Realms and it's novels. But everytime I make a topic about somthing that I know it either get's bashed or tossed aside with a response. I came to the site because I enjoy the series and googled this forum. But I was wrong in thinking that the novels mattered here because all I hear is about RPG game ideals. I am not bashing any of you, but just saying I do not belong here. I know I casued some conflict while I posted here somtimes and I am sorry. It seems the only topics I can understand and reply to are that of my own but no one pays any heed to it unless it's a game or whatever it is that this site obsesses over. I will continue to read the series and find a different forum that are also intrested in novels. If any of you know of any please link me the page on this topic or a private message. It would be much apreciated. Take care every one

Thanks, Sean

Isn't there a whole forum on these boards dedicated to the books?

Try the Candlekeep Forums. (http://forum.candlekeep.com/default.asp)

They talk about the game there as well, but they do have an entire forum dedicated just to the novels, and they are more about the 'lore' (story) then 'crunch' (game mechanics). In fact, many of the authors themselves respond to questions over there.

That is a good recommendation. I like Candlekeep's forums.

Non Playable Character

and also a level 20 epic character is a character with 20 class levels. Meaning, over the course of their adventures, they have gained MUCH knowledge of whatever they do (Fight, Cast Spells).

ExtinctionBeta, is it possible that it was your attitude that ruffled people's feathers?

For the record, it's not that novels "don't matter" here, is that we are really not supposed to discuss them that much. The enforcement of novel rules seem to have relaxed a bit since I've returned here, but in-depth discussion of the novels, how they are written, and how effective the authors are, is at least discouraged if not outright banned. There used to be a novel forum here--not anymore.

We are allowed to discuss the FR-related lore covered therein. We can even say weather we liked it or not, or what points we didn't care for.

It's bashing novels and authors that is not tolerated. I just though that I'd clarify that the ban has not been lifted so much, but rather we've learned how to be civil about it.

Thanks for the clarification. Still, regarding novels I think it's better to err on the side of caution, given all the controsversy that's arisen around the issue (and that's coming from someone who isn't exactly shy about criticizing novels, see my posts on Candlekeep.com).

Well I for one will say goodbye ExtintionBeta.

We had a brief clash on the boards but I think we came to an understanding. It will be a shame for you to leave the boards so soon as many have yet to chat with you. I can advise you though that perhaps a bit more patience will yield what you are looking for (wherever you end up). You shouldn't worry too much about your unfamiliarty with the game system as there are many people in the same postition as yourself. Just take into consideration that there are some here who do prefer to talk about the game and don't disregard them just because of that - They too have lore and opinions that will help you.

There is a great amount of lore mixed in among the RPG jargin, by sitting back and letting the discussions flow you can pick out the bits you need. Generally there is a greater focus on lore in the Forgotten Realms boards than you will find elsewhere on the Wizards forums. There are some very knowledgeable members on these boards (Old Sage, Zanan, Lord Karsus[above], GothicDan, The Simbul and many, many more) that will answer all your questions, and more, if you give them a chance to be roused from their respective lairs.

Hope you find what you need and hope you give my words more than a cursory glance. Farewell.

as i would be willing to have a mature discussion with Beta i know of him from the DLNexus boards. all of his posts were flame bait, completely bashing dragonlance as a setting and how it was inferior to FR. now i stop by the FR boards and see the same additude applied here. Its a shame that someone can not get past their own understanding to grasp new ideas to better understand something as a whole. i do not believe the OP truely wanted to have a serious discussion on either of the forums. i just wish he would have approached the forums with a bit less frustration and hostility. i also find it funny that he complained about post bashing when thats all he did on the DLN boards. O well. i can still chat with all of you!:D

well, he's right about that :P

i would have to disagree fully with you on this. DL and FR both have unique quality content exclusive to the setting. neither is superior. Each person decideds which setting better fits their interests but in no way does that lessen the quality of the other setting.

I happen to enjoy DragonLance and DarkSun more than Forgotten Realms but that doesnt make it superior in my eyes because i can find many many things in FR that i love. i would hope others can do the same.:P

Hey Dan, from what I've been gathering from around the web (and sifting through the garbage), we just may see a bit more 'connectivity' between worlds in 4e. :D

Although that all might have to do with the meta-gaming concept of 'porting' a PC from one campaign to another, rather then actual IG travel.

Sometimes I hate being right.

Especially when its worse then I thought... another world merging with FR?!

Methink they merely drop the lone FR thing, and focus more on interplanar links...

Maybe the otherworld(s) from where came some of the players of FR, like the orcs races?
MarkusTay63

Considering there is talk of bringing both the warforged and Changlings into the Realms (they are both going 'core'), I would surmise a little planar juxtapositon with Eberron, eh? ;)

Unlike a lot of what I'm saying around here lately, that is just a wild guess, based on nothing but speculation on the new core races.

So don't cry just yet. ;)

well if I was gonna mash a world together, I'd leave Eberron alone and go for Greyhawk, that why this wouldn't have just been some scuttlebutt floating aroind awhile back.

Personally, that is something I would love to see - they just need to past Iron Kingdoms to the other side of the GH continent, and then set Mystara below that.

Birthright would fit that large landmass SE of Zakhara perfectly, too.

Thats my 'dream planet'. :D

Perhaps a tad late but I figure i'll add a "Nah nah nah nah...Nah nah nah nah....Hey Hey HEY..." I'm sure all know the rest.

P.S.

Hope you read this Extinction, and it hits a nerve sending you into a blind rage that begins at the computer, and ends at the bottom of a swamp.

I know it's Goodbye, I assumed everyone would be able to get that. Perhaps that you thought I was implying "Farewell" should mean I finish such sayings in the future to avoid such confusion. ;) :P

Sadly though I suppose it was to much to hope either options would be final in this matter.
