| MR. T02-19-04, 11:25 AM | What's your favorite quote from a book, campaign supplement, etc...? |
| Cunning Linguist02-19-04, 11:43 AM | Keldath Ormlyr, House of Lathander. From Baldur's Gate game PC. "Don't Touch ME... Im SUPER important!" |
| AJA02-19-04, 01:37 PM | Well, aside from the iconic "On my word as a sage nothing within these pages is false, but not all of it may prove to be true," I'm also partial to these two Greenwood-created passages; Not - quite - smiling, he sipped from his tankard, to give Willem a moment to consider what to say next. It's always wise for wizards to take that moment, and consider what comes next. (The City of Raven's Bluff) "The Lord Mage of Waterdeep didn't do fireguard duty, of course; there was an entire Watchful Order for that." ("Ladies Night At The Yawning Portal") Most of the banter and between-friends jesting from the Knights of Myth Drannor in Spellfire is good as well. |
| Ssussunriyh02-19-04, 11:43 PM | "Silly boy! Ain't ye never been told not to hit a dwarf on the head?" - Bruener Battlehammer "Where in the nine hells did you ever find the notion that I would fight fair?" - Drizzt Do'Urden |
| Cherrn02-20-04, 05:19 AM | "There's enough light in here to blind Lathander!" Can't remember where it is from but it did make me laugh :D |
| Alisttair02-20-04, 12:50 PM | "Elminster this, Elminster that, give me 600 years and a pointy hat and I'll kick his arse!" - Edwin Odesseiron, from Baldur's Gate Computer Game (the ammount of years he says exaclty though I forget but its something like that i think, anyways, enjoyed it) |
| Solamnic264502-20-04, 01:49 PM | "Crazy elf," he said under his breath. "Probably’ll take on the whole lot of ‘em by himself!" He looked around curiously again at the dead giants. "And Win!" Bruenor Battlehammer, Crystal Shard "I'd be mean too, if I was that ugly," Bruenor remarked, moving close to Drizzt so they could calculate their next move. "You are," Regis said from his prone position. I like a lot more, but these were funny ones. |
| Mr. Domino02-20-04, 05:39 PM | "This little gnome's a troublesome one, then," said Wocco. "He's not for building them durned arky-busses, is he. Heard them things blow up in yer face more'n they boom yer enemies!" -Wocco Brawnanvil referring to Nanfoodle the gnome from, "The Lone Drow". and of course, "Or I'm a bearded Gnome!"- Bruenor Battlehammer |
| Gemstone02-20-04, 06:13 PM | "Duergar?!? WHERE!" - Dunhaild, Duergar Dwarf It's not a character from a book, rather a druid duergar that had hit his head just ONCE to much. - So, your a wizard? - NO! Im a WIzard! a NPC to a character |
| Poiniard02-20-04, 10:27 PM | "Smart tongues and ragged clothes usually mean Harpers." -from Shadows of Doom by Ed Greenwood "A jester among wizards, you are." -from Elminster in Hell by Ed Greenwood "You know, if I were eight hundred years old, I think I'd do more with my time than sitting about on my derriere singing tra-la-la-lally." -The Council of Blades by Paul Kidd "There is more to the making of a drow warrior than skill with weapons." -from Homeland by R. A. Salvatore |
| Drizzt Do'Duff02-20-04, 11:03 PM | Unfortunately, I don't have the book (one of cleric quintet) with me, but the gist of it is: Cadderly, Pikel, and Ivan are creeping through the catacombs beneath the library. Suddenly, Cadderly spots a skeleton (or some undead creature), and yells, "Run!" spins around on his heels and flees. Ivan, hearing the shout, repeats, "Run!" and charges forward with Pikel in tow at the skeleton. So Ivan mistook the shout to retreat for a war cry - made for a funny scene. |
| NiTessine02-21-04, 08:11 AM | From The Ruins of Undermountain: "Undermountain? Ah, yes. A great place to have fun, the most famous battlefield in which to earn a reputation as a veteran adventurer - and the largest known mass grave in Faerûn today." - Elminster of Shadowdale |
| Ssussunriyh02-21-04, 01:17 PM | "I thought you had overcome your suspicions of magic," said Drizzt sarcastically. "I have," Wulfgar answered through gritted teeth. "It is Harpells that worry me!" |
| niss'tyre02-25-04, 05:48 AM | "I sure do love me 'dem spiders!!!"-dark elven female PC in Ice Wind Dale 2 :ayyyy!: |
| Dargoth02-25-04, 06:59 AM | This one gets the classic award "Ok Ive just about had my FILL of riddle asking, quest assigning, insult throwing, pun hauling, hostage taking, iron mongering, smart assed fools, freaks, and felons that continually test my will, mettle, strength, intelligence, and most of all patience!. If youve got a straight answer ANYWHERE in that bent little head of yours, I want to hear it pretty damn quick or Im going to take a large blunt object roughly the size of Elminster AND his hat, and stuff it lengthwise into a crevece of your being so seldom seen that denziens of the Nine Hells themselves wouldnt touch it with a 20' rusty halbard! Have I MADE myself perfectly CLEAR?! Dialouge option with Old Hermit in area North of Naskal in BG1 |
| Lerris02-25-04, 07:04 AM | This ones from a campain that gets told all the time at my locale games club. the party enterd the room and standing at the opposite end was a skellitol giant, they leave again to run over a few ideas. Gramber, a dwarven Cleric: "I say let's starve him out!!" As you can guess the player has never lived taht particular moment down. |
| The Eye of the Cyclop02-26-04, 11:02 AM | Fromt the Underdark supplement, under "Portal Graffiti" "For a good time, call a cleric of Sharess!" |
| Earl Power02-26-04, 11:12 AM | pretty much any of jack ravenwilds lines from city of ravens, class book...class character. |
| ENHenry02-26-04, 01:36 PM | The Candlekeep Innkeeper from Baldur's Gate 1. "My Inn is as clean as an Elvish Arse!" |
| Azzadar02-26-04, 02:54 PM | "Do not keep me out in the sun too long. This book says I will lose my powers in 1d6 months, whatever that means." -drow male, Icewind Dale 2 |
| Rick Day02-27-04, 10:06 AM | From one of the spellfire series, Elminster to Manshoon, dont remember it exactly but it goes somethig like this. One day manshoon your going to go to reach to far and Ill have to kill all your clones too! |
| The_Sleeper03-01-04, 04:57 PM | I think my favorite quote is from Dangerous Games, in a conversation between the Phaerimm. I dont remember exactly how it goes, and i dont have the book w/ me at the moment, but it went something like "Give humans fire and they can burn down a forest. Give humans Star Magic and they can burn a world," or something very simmilar. |
| Frostbite_Ravenheart03-07-04, 03:14 PM | I got a few quotes from the FR source Candlekeep (www.candlekeep.com) : "Ever look into the eye of a dragon? Nay, of course you haven't. You're still breathin"' Have you ever asked a halfling a question only to be answered with one? Welcome to the Question Game! There is a place worse than the Nine Hells. There is a more horrible place than staring down three beholders armed with only with a dagger. That place is called Luiren, land of the halflings "Death comes for us all. That doesn't mean you shouldn't go down without kicking, biting, scratching, and fighting." Does anyone know how to shut a halfling up without cutting out his tongue? No? I didn't think so A cautious adventurer is a dead adventurer - They call me a murderer because I kill people--Fine! --But why do they call paladin's, who also kill people, heroes and holymen? Silvanus must truly hate mankind. Why else would he create such nuisances as nymphs, pixies, sprites, brownies, and other woodland fairies? Saughin, Sea Trolls, Sharks, Giant Squid. All Umberlee's children. No wonder they call her the :censored::censored::censored::censored: :censored: Queen heard tell of one of my kind named Drizzt Do'Urden. He is why I came to this place known as the Surface. He is why I entered into a human settlement. He is why I will hang tomorrow. And my all time fav from that site: Soldiers fight, thieves steal, bards sing, wizards cast, sages think, assassins kill. Good or Evil we all have ajob. So tell me this. What the hell are nobles and merchants for? Just a few of my favorits :) -Frosty |
| Reles Villian03-07-04, 03:50 PM | The one from Servant of the Shard where Jarlaxe is like Have you met my new friend? Then Rai-guy swallows really hard because of the ancient Red dragon thats right behind him. Also another fav of mine is when Larloch and Tam or in Warlock's Crypt. A long moment of silence descended over the two undead creatures, their gazes locked on one another. If Szass would have had a heart, it would have been racing. “You are both vain and impetuous,” the Shadow King replied. “All who have visited me in the past have been destroyed, regardless of their allegiance.” Classic. |
| Reefy03-08-04, 06:32 AM | The cry of the ogres in BG1 gets me every time. "ME WILL CRUSH YOU! CRUSH YOU TO GOO!" |
| Arduin03-08-04, 06:57 AM | I'll have to go with "Where in the Nine Hells did you ever get the notion, that I would fight fair". |
| Rhaynin03-08-04, 06:59 AM | Sorry for my bad english, had to translate it from german... but i think you get the idea :D A dialoge from the BG PC game... "Good, i have slowly enough from riddles, undertakings, insults, puns, hostagetaking, overwise fools, madmans, rogues, who are constantly puting my will, my courage, my strengh, my intelligence, and particularly my patience to test! If you've got anywhere in your weird little head an direct answer, i want to hear it or i will take a blunt object, around the size of Elminster AND his hat and stuff it lengthwise in a rift of your being, which is so rarley seen that even the denizens of the nine hells arent going to touch it with a long rusty pike! Have I made my myself CLEAR?" |
| Mumm-Ra03-09-04, 12:48 PM | Can't remember the source, but it had quotes from all the major organisations: "To-Rule-the-WORLD!" by the Red Wizards of Thay |
| chris747603-09-04, 04:10 PM | "Look Boo, squirrels! Throw nuts!" - Minsc from BG2 |

| Proc03-09-04, 05:13 PM | "Oo oi!" "Doo-dad!" "Sha-la-la!" "Ooooooo...." - Pikel Bouldershoulder (who doesn't say anything else) from the Cleric Quintet by R. A. Salvatore And: "My life is considerably easier when Laeral gets what she wants." - Khelben Arunsun From Windwalker by Elaine Cunningham |
| Wooly Rupert03-17-04, 01:00 AM | I just discovered that I own the Forgotten Realms Conspectus (http://home.flash.net/~brenfrow/fr/conspec.htm), and there's a couple of good quotes from Volo in there: On Drizzt Do'Urden: "If Drizzt Do'Urden ever stopped agonizing over his every little mistake, he'd discover that folk in the Realms can get into trouble and get themselves killed quite handily without him." "A lot of heroes seem to find time to reflect on the decisions they've made after they've gotten a lot of people killed. Wouldn't it be nice if they thought about the implications of the bold deeds and decisions before making them?" On The Simbul: "Ever notice how wizards think all life in the Realms dances on their hands, and lasts from day to day only because they work constantly to keep us all alive? How do they think we survive when they're in the bathroom?" |
| UnHolyOyster03-17-04, 07:06 AM | Paladin IWD1: YOU ACT LIKE I`M A PAWN...in..some......game? Monk IWD2 : I`l practice my two man fist technique....... Minsc BG1 : Beware evil, I am armed to the teeth packing a HAMSTER!! NVN : AAAAAAaaaaaaaaa...ahahahahaha....argh. |
| coralleane03-18-04, 07:21 PM | "No one argued with a sorceress who could slay dozens of orcs with a wave of her hand." - from Pools of Darkness by James M. Ward and Anne K. Brown. One of my favourites that I could think of and find at a moment's notice! ~Coral |
| adlondeepaxe03-19-04, 05:25 PM | On a sign post in Elminsters yard..."Trespassers notify next of kin" |
| aravilar_holistacia03-19-04, 10:34 PM | "We are no strangers to pain, we who play with fire; Masters of Fire and great archmages alike: sooner or later, we all get burned." --Alassra Silverhand (The Simbul) (Ed Greenwood, Spellfire) |
| Zanan03-20-04, 04:23 AM | Well, one from Descent to Undermountain (PC game) goes like this ... (a warning) Drow z'ress lil oloth lueth lil veldrin. Sarn! Z'hin kyone wund lil veldrin lueth dro. Tlu waela lueth ragar lil belbol del elghinn! Drow rule the shadows and the darkness. Beware! Walk carefully among the shadows and life. Be foolish and receive the gift of death! or this ... (Drow of the Underdark, I think) LIL WAELA LUETH WAELA RAGAR BRORNA LUETH WUND NIND, KYORLIN ELGHINN The foolish and unwary find surprises and among them, waiting death. Plus one from Falling Twilight's Riven: I've got one rule when blades a drawn, my side walks away. Everyone else - leaves blood in the dirt. It's that simple. |
| The Fury of Ages03-20-04, 09:33 AM | "oh thats pretty" Bruenor after getting his axe stuck in a goblins skull and when he pulls it out the skull comes out with the spine connected to it still. & "lovely just LOVELY!!!" Again by Bruenor in the same fight when his axe yet again gets lodged in another goblins back and splatters him with gobbo juices. i believe its in "The Silent Blade" |
| Nightingale 703-20-04, 09:13 PM | My most recent favorite quote is from Twilight Falling. There is a stand off at the Uskevren mansion where the villains hold a young guard hostage,so Cale wouldn't attack. One of the villains (the stupid one) says "See?He's as tame as a :censored::censored::censored::censored: :censored:!".Then the other 2 villains teleport out,but the stupid one fumbles with the teleport wand.Cale is on him in a heartbeat, and beats the living heck out of him.The villain is on the ground with a broken jaw, torn neck, split lip and various other wounds, bleeding on the floor."Do I still look tame to you, bastard?" VERY hardcore! |
| Nimzz03-21-04, 09:25 PM | "FIREBALL" "It won't hurt you" "Its not a big dragon" "Let the dwarf go first" "Im not a thief...im a...um...borrower...yup...thats it" "Burn freeport...kill an orc" |
| canibus03-22-04, 10:21 PM | Originally posted by Arduin I'll have to go with "Where in the Nine Hells did you ever get the notion, that I would fight fair". In which book is that quote? I've read every Drizzt books besides the Lone Drow and I can't remember.. |
| Crispus_Lyons03-24-04, 12:07 PM | Alright, I'll be lame and quote myself, it's simple but I think a character should have a few catch phrases. Helps build...well....character. "I build His wall." Crispus Lyons wading into combat to add the Faithless to Kelemvor's City |
| jimmyjimjam03-24-04, 08:17 PM | What was up with the dwarves in the cleric quintet anyhow? I didnt read the whole trilogy, but did it turn out they were retarded or brain damaged or what? |
| The Fury of Ages03-24-04, 09:14 PM | just the doo-dad was his brother was perfectly dwarven. |
| Anthor Del Niera03-25-04, 09:21 AM | Originally posted by canibus In which book is that quote? I've read every Drizzt books besides the Lone Drow and I can't remember.. Crystal Shard. In the giant's lair. Hmmm... "We'll make you into a paladin yet..." Jarlaxle to Entreri "But then I'd have to deal with another dark elf. I'll just keep my secret all to myself." "Stop rhyming, you senile old fool!" "So sorry, too slow. Now down you all go..." -Halaster Blackcloak when "imprisoned" by the drow in Neverwinter Nights. He then proceeds to have an intense rhyming argument with a clone of his, having slaughtered the group of dark elves. |
| aravilar_holistacia03-25-04, 09:29 AM | I probably should have been smarter and said this before... but be careful when using quotes from novels. This thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=185204) will help, as will my FAQ :D That being said, And so it was that a spellstorm was unleashed in the Court of Cormanthor that day. A true spellstorm is a fearful thing, one of the more terrible dooms one can behold, even if one lives to remember it. Yet some among our People hold far more hatred and fear in their hearts for what happened after the spellstorm blew apart. Shalheira Talandren, High Elven Bard of Summerstar from Silver Blades and Summer Night: An Informal But True History of Cormanthor published in The Year of the Harp (from Elminster in Myth Drannor by Ed Greenwood) |
| Brahzs M'ahnkei03-26-04, 06:15 PM | Torm hands the little girl a kitten. "What's it's name?" she asks. He stands tall and proud and declares: "Snuggleguts." (paraphrase from Spellfire by Ed Greenwood) |
| Zaknafien03-26-04, 08:17 PM | *whistle* I have alot of quotes, all of them at least a few sentences long. Just one though? Hmmmm.....that's tough......... I'd have to go with one of my favorite quotes from The Silent Blade by R.A. Salvatore. 'Catti-brie and Bruenor came to the lip of the canyon, on the same side as Wulfgar but further to the sout, about halfway between the barbarian and the three giants. They were in time to see the next spinning throw of Aegis-fang. One of the giants managed to get back over the protective wall, and a second was on its way up when the warhammer crashed in, dropping the behemoth onto the back of the third. Solid as the hit was, it didn't kill the giant. Nor did the silver-streaking magical arrow Catti-brie let fly from Taulmaril, scoring a hit on the same giant's back. "Bah, ye two're to steal all that danged fun!" Bruenor grumbled, skipping off to the south, looking for a way to get at the giants. "Gotta make me a dwarven bow!" "A bow?" Catti-brie asked skeptically as she set another arrow. "When did you learn to work wood?" As she finished, Aegis-fang came spinning by once again. Bruenor pointed to it emphatically. "Dwarven bow!" he exclaimed with a wink, then ran off.' God, I love that one:D |
| Israfel66603-27-04, 06:20 PM | I love the intro to Magic of Faerûn: If only you had learned all this years ago, my little Thayan spellthief, then you wouldn't be where you are today, bound in my spell that leaves you utterly immobile. You might have known how to bypass a spell engine, or how to recognizze a kiira from a common gemstone, or talk your way past a spectator, or spot any of other wards and traps I have placed around Blackstaff Tower. And I wouldn't have to slay you for your folly. Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun -------------------- "One doesn't have to be king to eat and dance and love a night away, you know." Mystra to Elminster, from Elminster, the Making of a Mage" -------------------- "The only rule is to stay alive" "The only winner is the last one standing" from the Assassin's Credo (as reported by Artemis Entreri, in a lovely fanfiction by David Pointier) --------------------- "All the fires in Hades couldn't burn Cyric from the world. He's like a sickness, a plague." Kelemvor, from Prince of Lies |
| Misyrr03-27-04, 06:25 PM | Originally posted by Brahzs M'ahnkei Torm hands the little girl a kitten. "What's it's name?" she asks. He stands tall and proud and declares: "Snuggleguts." (paraphrase from Spellfire by Ed Greenwood) Hehe, loved that scene! Rathan and Torm! |
| Hoondatha03-29-04, 12:31 AM | I read this in some rulebook somewhere and loved it so much that I've always remembered it (which is quite a feat, considering that my mind is like a steel sieve). Now, however, I can't find the book, which irks me no end. Anyway, it was being said by a balor when asked what it considered the most frightening thing in the multiverse by a clueless prime. Instead of killing the guy, the balor looked straight at him and said: "There is nothing more terrifying than an elf who has dedicated himself to warfare." |
| Brahzs M'ahnkei03-30-04, 10:11 AM | Originally posted by Misyrr Hehe, loved that scene! Rathan and Torm! Spellfire was the first novel that I ever read about the FR, and in my mind still stands apart. So many quotes and scenes stand out in my mind (many apologies; since I don't have the book in front of me I must continue to paraphrase): In Gorstag's Rising Moon tavern in Highmoon: the locals are giving a friend a hard time about his wife, who wears the pants in the family. "He will have one portion of the boar, not the deer," she orders dinner for her husband. He sits behind her, motioning to Gorstag that he certainly does not want the boar and definately wants more than one portion. Gorstag smiles and nods. "I have some new items I'd like for you to look at the in the back." he winks and tells the man, indicating that he will indeed have his one portion of boar with his wife, and then as much deer as he likes back in the kitchen. "The Gods bless Gorstag," the man thinks. "And the gods bless the Rising Moon." ;) |
| Kazzaroth Pan'theon04-01-04, 03:05 AM | I do not remember this quote excatly, but it went something like; Dear Bruenor, we know that Orc's cannot count.... Also like the quote where Drizzt says that what maked somebody think that he figth fairly. Also I like the scene where Cati-Brie eats the soup while QUen is crushing Drizzt under him :D (when I remember that Drizzt used similar trick to his svirneblin friend). |
