Do you have a favorite NPC that your DM created? Mine is a goblin, affectionately dubbed "My Stick". Our first ecounter was when my character, the Jester, Jack, was getting a short-sword from a weapon smith. I was about to pick it up when this goblin came and grabbed it from me, proclaiming "My STICK!" We fought over it for a short while, when the owner of the shop came out and said to the goblin, "Wait, this is your weapon" Pulling out an obviously magical short sword and giving it to him. We later defended him against a group of angry villagers. We got betwen him and them, allowing him to leave in peace. Months later our group was pinned down by a large force of the sythillisian army. All looked hopeless, when we heard the cry, "MY STICK!" he lead a small contingent of goblinic creatures, from atop his Worg, against the sythillisians, and saved us.
What about you? What is your quirkiest, coolest, badest, or best NPC?

Oh, this one is hard!

It has to be DM created, that's good. My DM gets creative with canon NPCs and while I love them, would probably start an argument on a forum like this one.

I'd have to say my favorite is Luzzle, an imp based very loosely on Salvatore's Druzzle. Luzzle is much more chaotic, but tends toward neutral more than evil. And he has a wicked sense of humor. Since my character was a succubus (don't ask) she usually went along with his pranks (when she wasn't the target) or reigned him in when he got out of hand (Can you imagine a succubus telling someone to behave?) They were best friends for centuries. And when she destroed Lloth (like I said, creative with canon NPCs) but didn't want to be the goddess of the underdark (she had better things to do) she gave it to him. He gathered up all his imp/quasit buddies to clear out the spiders and start showing those hot drow chicks how their new god wished to be worshiped...

Sounds like one crazy game, and a cool NPC as well.

All the NPCs my DM in Raveloft ever made. They all gave me the creeps and one time i was genuinly frightened by my friend's cool evil roleplaying! Can't remember of anyone specific in the Realms though srry man!

That's cool. We had a kid who played a vampire, and he did it so perfectly! I mean the exact balance between suave and insidious, and he had all these elaboratly laid, all encompassing plans. It was poetry to see him play this vampire. Unfortunatly he couldn't role-play anything else. All his other characters sucked. They were bland, with no thought to their concept, and no skill to their playing. It's a shame really. Oh well. What were some of the Rvenloft NPCs?

First and most important was Vasili Von Holst which is Strahd Von Zarovich walking the land in another name not to frighten all the people there. He took an interest in us because we had just come in Barovia and he wanted to talk to our wizard!

Two Aristocrats in Darkon, Ivana Borichi (oh my god i am in love with that cannibalistic orgy loving Aristo!) and her cousin and lover Dillisnya (can't rem first name).

But the man works miracles with the everyday people there and the Vistani. Just talk to a small cute little girl with a small doll in her arms in the middle of the night with complete silence around you and you will understand!

There was also a small wandering demiplane in the form of a magic shop with cursed items. The owner an old guy very friendly and always smilling gaves us many cursed and not cursed items.
THE item our Wizardess got though was a doll which always seemed to move in the corner of your eyes! When one day i got into an argument with her the doll looked at me all the time after that!

Oh crap i gotta play Ravenloft with him again!

In Our last campaign, our DM created an NPC by the name of Connor. Connor was a Monk/Barbarian/Ranger who had an unusual background.

Connor made a large impression on the party as well as an important extra character for the campaign. He is one of those NPC that sticks in your mind :)

I have managed to find some of Connors background that has been posted, but I will try to get Conan to post Connors complete background for everybody to read.

By Conan also answers to DM or God

As to the alignment factor: He was raised in a monastery by his parents who were founders of their own order of monks in the silver marches. As such he was LG and this upbringing, to the age of 8, accounts for the 2 monk levels.

His monastery was then raided, read burnt to the ground, by a horde of Orcs and he and his brother and sister, both older, were taken captive.
He suffered considerably as an orc prisoner and slave for nigh on 7 years. Losing his sister, never saw her again after initial capture, and brother, dragged off god knows where after a failed escape attempt.
The worst fate he suffered at orc hands though was the gouging out of his eyes so that he would not attempt to escape as his brother had.

This time spent with the orcs, almost half his life to this point, was the catalyst for his alignment change, to NG, and the reason for his lvl of Bbn.

There is more to his story but that is not really relevant to the question. And some of the player's in my game have computer's but their char's don't know the full back history of this NPC. So i'd like to keep it that way for a little time to come at least.

Official Plea  : Please Conan o almighty DM of my D&D world. Please post here the complete Connor background

Wow. No eyes, huh? That is really cool. How did he do in combat? Did he have the regular -4 modifier to everything, or did he have special rules? The orc carry 'n' torture is a classic as well.

He had the blind fighting feat as well as a special gift from Mielikki? I think it was anyway. His eye sockets actually had a reflective quality to them. (Rather Spinny)

In Battle, well all I can say is he kicked A@* big time :smirk:

That's cool, but my guff is this. If you're going to have a blind character, make him blind. Same goes for a deaf character, or a character with no legs. What makes them so cool is their disability, and their means of surpassing it. If he can see through the power of Mielikki, it means that he doesn't really have that disability. This is just me being a hard-ass, but I'd just once like to see a handicapped hero, be truly handicapped.

As I said I think he had a gift from Mielikki. ;) I am not 100% sure.

I never actually found out the exact details. This is why I am trying to get Connors complete history posted by Conan. It was his NPC after all and he is the only one with Connors complete background, stats etc.

Okay, I'm just saying. From your description it sounds like he can see, negating the fact that he is blind.

Well it was never really said that he was "Blind". Only that his eyes had been gouged out by orcs when he was younger :)

He only had his eyes gouged out. What could have ever given you the impression he was blind, wanderingminstrelnasheen? lol

But once again, he has no eyes, but he can see. Which negates the coolness of having no eyes.

Well I am arguing this point as an under dog, as I don't really know wether he could "see” things or just "sense" them.

He wasn't my NPC in the first place; he just stuck out as a memorable NPC from one of the campaigns I played in.

Anyway it's your opinion. If you don't think it's cool I don't really care.

Firstly my apologies to Tyr for leaving him defending a character he has no real concrete info on for so long. Tyr is not the creator of Connor, he just played alongside him.
Now however I am here to clear a few things up.
Firstly wanderingminstrelnasheen, yes he could see. Blindsight was involved.
However, it wasn't just a case of be able to see as normal.

Okay, let's see a full history or an annotated one.
We'll go for annotated and then see what happens.

As we know the NPC is called Connor. (No last name known)
Taken by orcs with brother and sister. (Sister is approx 14yold. Brother is approx 13. Connor is 8. No mention of siblings names either as he has lost the memory through trauma)
Sister was separated from him and his brother before they got to the Orc caves. (Never seen again by Connor)
Connor and brother are forced to work for the orcs doing menial slave tasks.
One day on a work detail outside the caves, Connor's brother decides that they should try to escape. After knocking out one of the orcs guarding them, Connor and brother mke a run for it. A short while later they are captured by an especially cruel, and to them feared, orc who teaches them a lesson by breaking one of connors brothers legs. this is meant to stop any thought of trying to escape in the future.

Connor is forced to coontinue working for the orcs whilst his brother recovers. His brother is being tended by a female orc with some medical skills, as he is "Too useful to let die."

Once his brother is able to, he resumes his role next to Connor.
Some time goes by.
Again Connor's brother suggests escape. Connor is reluctant to try, considernig the result the last time. And now his brother is slowed by his improperly healed leg. After much talk Connnor is convinced to try once more. (Note: this has all taken approx. 3 years to unfold so far. Connor 11, his brother 16.)
So once again they try to escape.
With many a chase scene, but eventually, they are once again captured. Lo and behold by the same nasty piece of work that caught them the last time. This time he decides that they can run on gammy legs, but they can't run if they can't see. So he approaches Connor with his rusty knife.
Connor loses his eyes whilst his brother is restrained by the orc they knocked out in the first escape attempt. Just as Connor's eyes are taken the orc restraining his brother relaxes, which give brother the opportunity to slip free, charge the ugly brute doing the gouging. A short scuffle ensues whereby the orc is stabbed through the hand by his own knife. Enraged, he comes at brother. An early grave is forestalled however, by the arrival of other members of the tribe, most notably the female orc who doctored brother's broken leg.

Hmmmmm... this is gettin quite long.

How 'bout this? If you wanna read the rest then let me know and I will start a new thread and post it all for you.
There is so much more though I don't feel right in highjacking the thread.
So as I said. To find out how Connor got partial sight back and more from the tales of Connor post here and let me know that you wanna read it. :D
Or just tell me to shut up and disappear back to the swamp I crawled out of.

Now you may rest young one Tyr. For I shall field the quizzing from here on in.

Steelsnout, 2nd-Level Kobold Warrior. Imagine if you will an unusually large and well-built Kobold, wearing a beak-style knight's helm with a big ratty plume, a chain shirt too big for him and a ratty old cloak that drags the floor behind charging at you waving a Longsword in both hands while yelling in Common, "HAVE AT THEE, VARLET!" :)

I have many memorable npc's

One was an ancient BBEG that was resurected by a pc using items (weapons, armour, items) of his long dead foe. His name was/is Karanos and he came back to once again do battle with his nemesis who the PC was slowly changing into. He started out as a pretty powerful cleric and ultimately became a lesser god. He had a five ball flail with a spell on each ball that he could activate in combat (earthquake being one of the spells).

Another npc was a drow (before they were haute couture!!) who was an assasin/mage/fighter/theif (from first editon no less) and just seemed to show up at the worst time and in the worst places. Ramak Zwariel was his name-he had a vendetta against another party memeber (also a drow) who was a paladin of Torm.

The last one...and my absolute fave-was an evil halfling theif who led a guild and who happened to be my pc's uncle. His name was Lifter Lendfence and he was the quintisential low life who was exceedingly cunning and deadly. Always had to watch out for him.

Wow. Those are some cool NPCs. I especially like the first guy. I really like the idea of foes travelling by varied means from generation to generation to continue their battle.
