| Carbonic Veracity09-15-03, 07:59 PM | Obviously, between all the novels, accessories and handbooks published for the Forgotten Realms....more than just a simple 3rd Edition Campaign Setting entry characterizes the many famous NPC's in the Realms... What's your favourite NPC you've read about...Why? |
| Cyric the Dark Sun09-16-03, 08:23 AM | If Cyric doesn't count, then perhaps Artemis entreri |
| Ljandor09-16-03, 08:37 AM | Jarlaxle (and he submits Entreri as a slave. Ah Ah Ah!!!) |
| Poukis09-16-03, 08:39 AM | Hmmm... Entreri is nice... But he has changed very much over the last books... He is more of neutral character than evil. Anyway, I'll stick to my old favorites... Drizzt and Storm... By the way, carbonic, which is your favorite? PS. My best charcter is Jarlaxle but his statistics don't appear in the book... Shame... |
| Carbonic Veracity09-16-03, 10:44 PM | By the way, carbonic, which is your favorite? Well, I'd have to say that my favorite Realms character would have to be Drizzt's Svirfneblin companion. I can't exactly remember his name, but he was in the second Dark Elf Trilogy novel (EXILE). "Magga Camarra Dark Elf!" "Bivrip!" |
| Harlamond09-16-03, 11:04 PM | I like Jherek from the The Threat From The Sea trilogy one of my favorite stories I have read so far. |
| Stormmaster09-16-03, 11:11 PM | I think Azoun was one of the better characters he is one of the truly "Good" characters, one without the all the angst that drizzt has... and he isnt overwhelmingly overpowered or important like elmister or the chosen... and he still has to make tough choices without trying to comprimise his morals (the whole being a king thing) Spoilers in case anyone still hasnt read the trilogy. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . And i really like the way he sacrificed himself for his country, and that he actually stayed dead... a true hero and martyr.. just my two copper |
| Ljandor09-18-03, 10:14 AM | His name was Belwar Dissengulp! |
| tharivol the wise09-18-03, 05:34 PM | drizzt |
| sidekick09-19-03, 12:29 AM | My favorite would be the Morgh in "the Jewel of Turmish". He's a mage/fighter, worshipper of Malar. YEAH he's cool in a psychotic kill everyone I see kind of way |
| Martryn09-19-03, 05:03 AM | Everyone says Drizzt and I say phooey! And Storm is way too powerful. When Mystra saves you when you get over your head, you have no risk to body. :nonono: And the Threat from the Sea novels blew. They were ok until the last book which ruined it all. I submitted a character to the design contest they had and lost, and it has soured me ever since. Jarlaxle and Entreri are perhaps the most fascinating characters in the Salvatore books. I like them both, although it seems that Jarlaxle is nigh invincible. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be Foxfire from one of those moonblade books. Silver Shadow or Elf Shadow or something, I think. From same series I also like Elaith Craulnober. Maybe Antarn Alastrarra from Elminster in Myth Drannor. |
| Jagermeister09-19-03, 05:24 AM | Originally posted by Martryn When Mystra saves you when you get over your head, you have no risk to body. :nonono: That, in a nutshell, is what is wrong with the Realms. |
| Fredegar The White09-19-03, 05:46 AM | Jarlaxle Baenre. The best character ever to appear in a novel and fantasy! |
| Cunning Linguist09-19-03, 06:59 AM | Its hard.. it stands between Szass Tam and Lord Shadow... In the end it has to be Szass Tam, since I like necromancy magic even more then your run of the mill Shadow Magic. |
| kedi09-19-03, 09:35 AM | sememmon! or halaster |
| Shade09-19-03, 09:49 AM | Erevis Cale. Easily. I like both Entreri and Jarlaxle but neither of them even comes close. |
| Martryn09-19-03, 08:13 PM | Cale kicks butt too. |
| Reefy09-19-03, 08:18 PM | Danilo Thann. |
| Carbonic Veracity09-19-03, 08:55 PM | His name was Belwar Dissengulp! Yeah!!! That's the little svirf's name! And BTW Jagermeister, I totally agree with you. |
| Cymric_Steiner09-20-03, 12:09 AM | I know this may seem kinda odd but cadderlly is my favorite, I really wish RAS would write more about him. |
| Daelric09-20-03, 01:13 AM | Erevis Cale I hope he's around for awhile, a very interesting character. |
| Tyraj the Black09-20-03, 01:33 AM | Does no one else like Zaknafein? I mean come on, killing high priestesses right and left, screwing up Malice's plans, slaughtering drow for kicks, what's not to love (except that he fathered Drizzt, the immortal whiner....)? |
| Fredegar The White09-20-03, 05:33 AM | Yeah Zak'Nafein kicks priestly butt but i haven't read many things about him so i can't place him on top! Jarlaxle and Zak novel? one can only hope! |
| Darkmistress09-20-03, 06:09 AM | Originally posted by Tyraj the Black ...what's not to love (except that he fathered Drizzt, the immortal whiner....)? One major flaw, alas. I guess one couldn't fault Zaknafein for how his son turned out, though... |
| Dannerus Maximus09-20-03, 01:09 PM | One word for you guys: Mirt. |
| Ilbreth Shadowblade09-20-03, 04:58 PM | Male: Zak Female: Storm  |
| Maskanodel09-20-03, 06:02 PM | Such a list!!! Off the top of my head I gotta say Zak, Jarlaxle, Telamont Tanthul, and Vander from the Cleric Quintet (I think a Firbolg character is a nice breath of fresh air). All time favorite would have to be Artemis Entreri. Such a compelling character. |
| Telagaunt09-20-03, 11:38 PM | Melegaunt, he was really cool IMO. And very manipulative. He was only in one novel, and one short story, but Denning did a nice job on him. And the fact Troy Denning says he likes writing about his brothers even more gives me a lot of hope for what he can write them out to be aswell. Then Drizzt, I know he's uber munchkin material and defeats the odds, but I still love him, Jarlaxle, need I say why? :P And I'm starting to like Erevis Cale too as I read more about him. I think Paul S. Kemp does a fantastic job at portraying Cale's neutral alignment, and another one of my favorites (who is also a neutral alignment) is Aeron Morieth, who Rich Baker did a great job with him also. My favorite female I only have one. And it definately hands down, Liriel Baenre. |
| Ashana09-21-03, 02:25 PM | By all that's HOLY, you expect me to choose ? Here's my list: Drizzt, Zak, Jarlaxale, Enteri, Elaith, Pharaun, Szass Tam, The Simbul, etc........hmmmmm most of them are bad guys !!!!!!!! |
| Mr. Domino09-21-03, 02:39 PM | Doo-Dad. :b: Know the Elder Eye sees you. :b: |
| Carbonic Veracity09-21-03, 02:47 PM | Know the Elder Eye sees you. speaking of doodad, dude what's your obsession with Gaunadar? |
| tWiStEdDM09-22-03, 11:49 AM | How come nobody has mentioned Manshoon? Not only was he the most powerful Zhentarim in his day.... look at all the trouble he caused when he died... Where'd you think George Lucas got the idea for the 'Clone Wars'... hehe. P.S: Before anyone pulls me up on this, I know the history of Star Wars universe predates that of the realms... |
| CaffeineGenasi09-22-03, 12:55 PM | Golly, this is hard. Since you say NPC, shouldn't we be choosing only from secondary characters? Wouldn't a main character from a novel correlate to a PC? I love just about everybody from the Stormweather series except Larajin (yawn) and her stuck up brother. My favorite of them would have to be Thamalon. I don't even understand it myself. I just like him. I wish he was my grandpa. Cale rules, but then, I am partial to all things Mask. That guy from City of Ravens. I can't even remember his name. But I remember just busting out laughing every other page, and that says something. I loved the little mouse flying through the air. "Master! Saaaave Meeeeeee!" |
| Lord_Anthrax10-07-03, 11:08 PM | Three cheers for the 'Shoon! No wait, he can do that himself these days. ;) Seriously, Manshoon just reeks of master-villain style. He is to my mind the archetype of the mastermind evil wizard in Faerun, and I always liked his Mafia-style tactics in employing the Zhentarim rather than this grandiose posturing Fzoul's doing these days. I'd just bet Manshoon is biding his time, waiting for Fzoul to reach his hand out and overbalance in juuuust the right way so Manshoon can kick his feet out from under him and take his rightful place at the head of the Zhents again. Though for a less serious bent, I go with the Pwent. :) |
| TionneDawnstar10-08-03, 12:17 AM | Kelemvor BEFORE ascention... heh heh I like Kelemvor post ascention too... I need therapy :twitch: |
| Plectrum10-08-03, 11:36 AM | fave character the calishite out of the moonshae trilogy Daryth or somethin |
| Bankrock10-09-03, 09:25 AM | Originally posted by tWiStEdDM How come nobody has mentioned Manshoon? | Malaug10-09-03, 10:56 AM | There's a few Belkram and Ithar, the two harpers from the Shadow of the Avatar Series, they are classic for a laugh. Also those two Knights of Shadowdale, Rathan and Torm I think! Uthegentel, even though he doesn't have a big part in novels, a guy that can scare Jarlaxle is okay in my book, not to mention his fighting bear handed against goblin slaves armed with weapons, even going so far as to allow one to land a wicked blow on him and then systematically ripping them limb from limb and having their choice bits served for his dinner. Oh yeah! Those are my favourite or I'm a bearded gnome! |
| knightserpent10-09-03, 12:56 PM | 3) Erevis Cale 2) Fydor 1) Pharaun Missrym |
| Automatic Flowers10-10-03, 07:16 PM | Jarlaxle, most definitely. He grabbed my attention in Salvatore's newest series (Spine of the World and on; not sure as to the name of the series.) He has a contingency plan for every eventuality. He's like the Batman of Faerun. Artemis Entreri gets my second spot. I like how he's changed from a heartless evil assassin to a... heartless not-so-evil assassin. And Charon's Claw is so freakin' cool. |
| Cherrn10-10-03, 09:45 PM | Hmmmmm there's quite a few, Jarlaxle is one of them. I like Manshoon, but I also like Fzoul... Ryld and Pharaun from Dissolution are also interesting... Hmmmmm Morik the Rogue, don't know why but I really do like him. Maybe cos he's more "normal" and down to earth than the others. He seems like a real person :) |
