In one of the FR books, either the Harper series or Realms Short Stories, there was a gathering of Rangers for a festival. They exchanged ideas, items, tall tales, etc...what is the Name of it? And how often does it meet? And which blooming book is it in?

Thanks,

I think it's in the Lost Library of Cormanthyr, which I have...somewhere...drat--well, I'll look around, 'cause I don't remember any more details.

It is in the Lost Library book, and I knew exactly what its name was until you asked me to tell you. Sorry.

I do know, however, that all of the ranger gatherings were originally documented in the 2e Complete Ranger's Handbook. There are six or seven major ranger moots described, including the one in Lost Library. Sorry I can't be more specific, I haven't read either of the books in a long while.

Thanks for the help, at least I can check two sources now instead of 30.

According to the 2e Complete Ranger's Handbook, informal get-togethers of rangers are called forgatherings or moots. At a forgathering, a ranger can exchange ideas, barter for supplies, participate in contests of skill, give or receive training, catch up on gossip, blow off steam, greet old friends, initiate new rangers (often with hazing rites or practical jokes), and generally eat-drink-and-be-merry-for tomorrow-et-cetera.

The specific forgatherings listed are:

The Equinox Festival - primarily a trade fair, where rangers bring goods to sell, or look to buy something specific that they can't make or find elsewhere.

The Glass Eye Concourse - named after its originator, a mountain man who lost an eye in a drunken sharpshooting contest. A weekend of physical contests, lewd jokes, and lots and lots of cheap ale.

The High Tide Assembly - downright sedate compared to other forgatherings, including philosophical discussions and formal lectures, climaxing in a wild boar hunt, followed by a traditional feast.

The Solstice Jamboree - Lavish banquets three times a day for six days. Bards and druids are also encountered here, with poetry recitations and silent meditations to honor comrades who have died in the past year.

In the Forgotten Realms, Rangers meet once a year to trade stories, hunting tecniques, and just good times at an annual event in the High Forest called the Hunt. They compete in tests of skill, including an obstacle course, archery contests and a hunt of a dangerous beast through the wood. The one who does the best in the hunt is named the leader of the high hunt, and is obligated to defend his position at the next hunt...For more information see Magic of Faerun
