| Lord Karsus04-22-08, 11:49 AM | -I don't know how many people are aware of it, but when 4e debuts, the boards will be undergoing a rather massive reorganization. Fourth Edition will take prominence, and Third Edition will be put on the back burner. As it should be, I have no problem with that. -The Forgotten Realms/Eberron sections were not on Gamer Zer0's original draft of what the new WotC Messageboard layout. While there is no doubt in my mind that they will 'ported over in the boards reorganization, the form both the Forgotten Realms and the Eberron sections take is in jeopardy. I've already suggested that they be brought over in the forms they take now: Forgotten Realms Faerūnian People & Places Classes, Races & Monsters Magic, Deities & The Cosmos Combat, Arms & Armor Forgotten Realms General Eberron Classes, Races & Monsters Magic, Deities & The Cosmos Combat, Arms & Armor People & Places Eberron General -Now, others have posted that both sections be condensed into a board. I feel- and I am sure many others feel the same- that this is not a good strategy, as the Forgotten Realms, and Eberron contain too much information to effectivley keep in a single board, as individual threads will pop up with enough frequency to push other threads and discussions into the oblivion of being on the third page, or something worse. If you feel as I do, or have a completely different idea, please, share them on THIS (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1015243&) thread. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin04-22-08, 01:56 PM | Thanks for the heads-up, LK.:) |
| Lord Karsus04-22-08, 03:44 PM | -Yup...I should go into politics. :) |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin04-22-08, 03:48 PM | -Yup...I should go into politics. :) You sure?:shifty: :P Just kidding, although the thought of me being a politician makes me shudder.;) |
| Lord Karsus04-22-08, 03:58 PM | You sure?:shifty: :P -It's a field that interests me, and, in a theoretical world, I'd like to go into, but I don't have it in me to be an actual politician, with the lying, and the screwing people over, and all of that stuff. Just kidding, although the thought of me being a politician makes me shudder.;) -Why? I'd vote for you. |
| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin04-22-08, 04:02 PM | -It's a field that interests me, and, in a theoretical world, I'd like to go into, but I don't have it in me to be an actual politician, with the lying, and the screwing people over, and all of that stuff. Yeah, I know it's a field that interests you.:) I was thinking of the dark side of being a politician, that you mentioned. -Why? I'd vote for you. Aww, shucks!:embarrass I'd vote for you too!:) |
| Valgard04-23-08, 03:48 AM | I'm with you LK... the Forgotten Realms and Eberron boards should be separate. After all, a mortal capable of destroying the deity of magic and the Weave she sustains, even for a few moments, must be right. The fact is that I probably understand the idea to merge them... think about it, they are taking the FR logo out of the Campaign Guide and the Player's Guide, a sign that probably tells there will not be specific-FR books, so there's no reason for a 'Classes & Races' board and a 'Combat, Arms & Armor' board... Eberron is probably to get out in a year, so 'why put it in a separate board?'... this is giving me the creeps more every day. Edit: I'm always referring to merging all the boards of a specific setting into a single one for each setting, not between them... so there's only one Forgotten Realms board and one Eberron board. |
| sfdragon04-23-08, 04:32 AM | keep the mseparate please i dont want to scroll all the wat down to the FR section like it currently is |
| MerrikCale04-23-08, 10:39 AM | -It's a field that interests me, and, in a theoretical world, I'd like to go into, but I don't have it in me to be an actual politician, with the lying, and the screwing people over, and all of that stuff. don't forget all those skeletons in your closet |
| MarkusTay6304-23-08, 11:25 AM | If we do not get a seperate forum anymore for 3e Realms, I for one will no longer participate. I don't feel like fielding questions from all the 4e 12-yr-olds about how to kill Drizzt or Elminster. Also, I think they need to add a NEW category to those two lists of yours LK, or at least the FR one - A 'Projects' board, so we don't have to keep bumping up the ones we have in the 'General' section. Politics: I ran for political office once. The first time I voted, I voted for myself. :D I figured if I had to stand in that silly little booth with the curtain, I might as well be voting for someone I like. :P It was the Primary, and I missed making it onto the main election ballot by 14 votes, against a 12-year encumbant. And that was my 'stint' into politics - Brookhaven Town Councilman. At 531½ square miles, it's the largest Town in the world (I hate doing anything small). |
| Alediran04-23-08, 11:33 AM | MK, I'm still beating you for boards organization. I guess you'll be all day in The Realms Vault after the FR are destroyed (I'm not too positive about their existance after 4ed is released) |

| Lord Karsus04-23-08, 12:06 PM | -Some of you guys (and girls) might be misunderstanding. The Forgotten Realms boards and the Eberron boards are not going to be merged. Both are going to retain their respective identities as Forgotten Realms and Eberron, seperatley. After the reorganization, though, the subsections are likely to be different. We might not have Faerūnian People & Places, Classes, Races & Monsters, Magic, Deities & The Cosmos, Combat, Arms & Armor, and Forgotten Realms General anymore. Some have said that both sections would be better having one board each. That would mean there would be one all-purpose, general Forgotten Realms board, and one all-purpose, general Eberron board. I don't think this is wise, and as such, I am 'lobbying' to have multiple boards, while other people are 'lobbying' to have one board or so. Obviously, majority rules (sometimes), which is why I am asking everyone here to let your opinions be known, whether or not they agree with me or not. -I am just "fighting" for Eberron because they are our "cousins", in theory. |
| Alediran04-23-08, 12:11 PM | I'm with LK in this (like always, I can't remember even once when I was against my boss, great minds think alike). |
| Stigger04-23-08, 02:21 PM | Gods but that fellow is a right prick... |
| MarkusTay6304-23-08, 03:56 PM | I think one forum for 'mechanical questions', as opposed to 'Arms and Equipment', might be better, since that forum seems to move at a crawl of the five we have. Also, I suppose people and places could be combined with Races and classes (People and Races being a similar subject). However, one big 'catch-all' category would be horrrible. MK, I'm still beating you for boards organization. I guess you'll be all day in The Realms Vault after the FR are destroyed (I'm not too positive about their existance after 4ed is released)Probably. By the time 4e FR hits, I'll probably have moved on to the Vault for everything. I enjoyed all the lore we used to share, but that just doesn't happen anymore, and I think it will only get worse after Aug. :( They really screwed up a good thing here. :nonono: |
| Alediran04-23-08, 04:17 PM | I enjoyed all the lore we used to share, but that just doesn't happen anymore, and I think it will only get worse after Aug. :( Me too, but at least we have a safe haven in The Vault. You should check the PbP game im DMing too. Is going to be very interesting. |
| Iakhovas04-23-08, 07:02 PM | The Vault? Candlekeep 4 ever! :P |
| Alediran04-23-08, 08:47 PM | The Vault? Candlekeep 4 ever! :P There is no need to fight at all. Each site has different approaches to FR, we have Lore compilations like the Elven Netbook and we focus more on compilation of current lore and updating, development of fluff-light sides of the setting (like the Guardians of the Weave) and PbP games. Candlekeep does other things, I think it would be a great alliance of two places who love the current realms and want to keep them alive. |
| Mula04-24-08, 01:02 AM | They really screwed up a good thing here. :nonono:I really have to point out here that "they" don't post here. It's all us. |
| Rauric04-24-08, 07:06 AM | People could still post Lore info instead of the same old same old. Nobody is stopping anybody but themsleves from doing it. Markus don't blame other people when you and others don't help the matter. I come here to see ifI can get any info on 4E and I do get quite a bit of info even though it is mostly shown in a negative light. I would have no problem with a 3E forum though with just a 3E FR title. I don't think this will happen though since they will try and focus on 4E and they may want to get the some of the negative element off the boards. They probably don't want people new to the boards to look down at the 3E area and see a bunch of bitter folks talking about the past. They probably are hoping many leave for Candlekeep actually. Plus Markus you talk about 12 year olds but look at how childish we all get around here and we are all probably 20+ in age. Also the "How can I kill El and company" threads have always been around these boards. I remember a few years ago there were many of thoe types of posts. |

They probably don't want people new to the boards to look down at the 3E area and see a bunch of bitter folks talking about the past. They probably are hoping many leave for Candlekeep actually. Yeah, I've already seen one or two posts from folks that ammounted to "We didn't get into FR before and now the Devs are saying its soooo messed up they HAVE to nuke it to make it playable? No thanks!" Shortly after that, I noticed the tone of the devs was stepped down a notch or two as far as how much the Realms needed to be fixed and why. Course I always figured they were going out of their way to rile folks up so we'd be talking about the new Realms and draw interest. I figure the dev's talk was just part of the "ad campaign," so I don't see the two (dev's choice of tone <-> new folks turned off of Realms totally) as linked. Lord know the last thing WoTC wants to support is an ongoing group of grumbling "grognards" (only used the term for aliteration so :P ) talking up how great pre-4e FR was and how poor a product 4e FR is. So I'm 100% sure they want us to talk up 4e or shuffle off somewhere else to talk up 3.x. Plus Markus you talk about 12 year olds but look at how childish we all get around here and we are all probably 20+ in age. Also the "How can I kill El and company" threads have always been around these boards. I remember a few years ago there were many of thoe types of posts. Yeah, you don't need to be 12 to have a 12 year old's mentality! |
| MarkusTay6304-24-08, 09:59 AM | The Vault? Candlekeep 4 ever! :PI've noticed Candlekeep being a tad bit busier of late - I think come August, it will be the 'premier' place for 3e FR lore. Whereas the Vault will be for 'Alternative FR Campaigns' - non-canonical, with various storylines to avoid whatever 4e/Spellplague events you wish. Plenty of room for all. I've seen a few 3e FR fansites spring up as a result of the 4e announcement, but I haven't noted ANY 4e FR sites... yet. And I don't think this thread will do anything - If there's one thing we should have learned by now, it's that THEY will do whatever the hell they want, no matter how we feel about it. :( |
| Jiggawha04-24-08, 10:03 AM | will Candlekeep forums be modernized in the near future? |
| MarkusTay6304-24-08, 10:17 AM | As far as I know, they are NOT changing their format at all. They will also be open to lore from ALL editions (as always), but judging by some of my fellow scribes reactions to 4e, don't expect to see a lot about the new Realms over at CK. That may change over time, and I'm sure some of the 'new regions' Ed is creating will be discussed at great length once the FRCG hits the shelves. |
| Jiggawha04-24-08, 10:37 AM | I meant just the design of the site, looks old |
| MarkusTay6304-24-08, 10:42 AM | Thats intentional - it is supposed to be reminscent of the old 1e books, with the 'yellowed parchment' look. It could use a makeover, but then again, at least it doesn't look like that hideous vomit-green Gleemax thing. ;) |
| Jiggawha04-24-08, 10:53 AM | yea, Gleemax announced the rise of aberrations, is like Abeir |
| Alediran04-24-08, 11:12 AM | Candlekeep's design is the only thing that rubs me the wrong way with the site, it's very hard to read and the board is too basic for my tastes. The board could get an improvement without having to throw the design, it's made in old plain ASP which has become obsolete like seven years ago. With the new capabilities in ASP.NET they could make an excellent boards system. |
| Stigger04-24-08, 11:51 AM | Hurts my eyes reading stuff over there... As to the forum 3e/4e stuff, it hardly matters at this point. Regardless of how I feel about 4e, I don't want to see newcomers screwed over with a poorly conceived board-format that isn't helpful or functional to them. |
| Lord Karsus04-24-08, 04:32 PM | And I don't think this thread will do anything - If there's one thing we should have learned by now, it's that THEY will do whatever the hell they want, no matter how we feel about it. :( -This thread isn't supposed to do anything except prompt people to give their opinions on the actual thread in question that I liked in my original post, which I notice many people who are discussing here are not actually doing. |
| MerrikCale04-24-08, 09:59 PM | yeah. I can't stand it when people got way off topic and destroyed the original purpose of a thread. hey, anyone else like pickles? |
| Lord Karsus04-24-08, 11:02 PM | hey, anyone else like pickles? -Kosher Dill, and Half Sour... ... -Huh? What? |
| Valgard04-25-08, 03:40 AM | hey, anyone else like pickles?:tantrum: Call the Power Puff Girls to open the pot!! |
| MerrikCale04-25-08, 10:49 AM | -Kosher Dill, and Half Sour... ... -Huh? What? what, no bread & butter? |
| Alediran04-25-08, 10:53 AM | I love pickles, every kind. |
| MarkusTay6304-25-08, 11:55 AM | Sweet Gerkins. :D -This thread isn't supposed to do anything except prompt people to give their opinions on the actual thread in question that I liked in my original post, which I notice many people who are discussing here are not actually doing. :rolleyes:What thread? I thought we were discussing pickles... |
| Lord Karsus04-25-08, 12:28 PM | what, no bread & butter? -Nope. |
| Ody_Saraph_of_Karsus04-25-08, 12:34 PM | -Nope. Ring of Subtenance(or whatever you call it) All the way :ayyyy!: |
| MarkusTay6304-25-08, 01:07 PM | Seriously... what thread? I must have missed it. Also, the title of this thread makes me think of the Beastie Boys song - "You gotta fight... for your right.... to PARTY!!!!" |
| Jiggawha04-25-08, 01:15 PM | or Public Enemy, Fight the Power |

| Lord Karsus04-25-08, 03:42 PM | Seriously... what thread? I must have missed it. -See the first post! Also, the title of this thread makes me think of the Beastie Boys song - "You gotta fight... for your right.... to PARTY!!!!" -One of my favorite songs. |
