| sithar04-29-07, 08:43 PM | Hello all, I posted this in the what's a DM to do section but I wanted to ask the forgotten realms forum too. I am planning on starting a forgotten realms campaign and I'm wondering if I need any books other than the campaign setting. I might set it in and around the silver marches but I'm not sure. How grand does my plot need to be? I've seen some campaign ideas posted here and it looks like most have quite a fair amount of deity related material. Do I need to have a large scale story for my campaign to be good? Also, I may be a able to get a couple of books fairly soon, could you recommend some good ones? Also could you tell me why they are good and which you would get if you could only get one or two? |

Start out small and work your way up is usually a good policy, and don't try to do everything all at once. Get them familiar with a locale that appeals to you, have a few adventures around there, and then start working your way outside of the area once you're more comfortable would be my advice. |

I suggest you start in the Dalelands. They are more of a traditional calm and verdant medieval rural location with less dangers, less monsters and less of a frontier region compared to the deadly Silver Marches. The Silver Marches on their side are richer in towns and cities, armies and warfare, races and nations, dangerous sites and critical places, NPCs and important characters and thus they demand more preparaton from the new DM. |
| The Ubbergeek04-30-07, 11:39 AM | For classical feeling avdentures, how about the Savage Frontier or the Moonsea? |
| sithar04-30-07, 12:11 PM | mainly I was thinking about the north as a whole, so yes I'd probably use the savage frontier. |
| MarkusTay6304-30-07, 01:46 PM | This might help as well - Shameless Plug (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/49808728/?q=Silver+marches&qh=boost%3Apopular+age_sigma%3A24h+age_s cale%3A5) There is also a smaller printable version, as well as a four part larger print version. |

Oi, that's great. The last few days, I searched for just such a detailed map of the Silver Marches. |
| sithar05-01-07, 09:42 AM | Nice find on the map. Looks pretty sweet. On aanother note. Does anyone have any suggestions for an adventure for a group of 3rd level? I have trouble thinking up ideas whem pcs are in low levels. |

For information about the north have a look at http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads Both the dowloads for the north and the savage frontier And for Adventures have a look here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030530b The secret of the windswept wall is quite good or frozen whispers, which would be suitable for the north. |
