| leesch7906-02-05, 05:09 PM | Had a question, I put my foot in my mouth in volunteering to run a Realms game. I love the Realms, and consider myself knowledgeable about it, but I always seem to be a bit behind on current events, have to remember that Azoun IV is dead and Alusair is regent. My players decided that they would like to have a game based in the current year, (Year of Rogue Dragons correct?). The problem I'm running into is where can I find this info. If there is a page on this site that contains it, or even books that have it in there I would be appreciative. If you happen to know and don't mind spoiling something about the current timeline, I'd be grateful. Leesch79 |

Leesch79 You can try the novel series The Year of the Rogue Dragons which concidentally deals with rogue dragons. How convient for you :P |

If you want to read them don't bother with the book though since it probably is a bit shallow on content otherwise that I personally found useful (lots of updated reprints, some feats and PrCs etc, and the 3e cosmology retcon material therein was largely a lot of less detailed descriptions of deity domains that I have better material on from 2e FR or Planescape books.) However, that said, it does have the timeline update info so even if you don't buy the book and just browse it in a store or look at a friend's copy, that portion at least might be useful to you. |
| Faraer06-03-05, 02:15 PM | Unfortunately that section of the misnamed Player's Guide concentrates on the Archwizards and Spider Queen books, giving the impression that those are the only 'important' events of those years. Compare that with the 'year's current clack' sections of the Old Grey Box or FOR4 The Code of the Harpers to see a small slice of what a year in the Realms really looks like. There may be a more complete 'recent' timeline online, but I don't know where. But honestly, I would try and change your players' mind about playing in the 'current' Realms. If none of you know the material, I can't think of any advantage (except ease of use of the most recent sourcebooks) to playing then rather than in some more sensible time like the 1350s DR. |
