Forgotten Realms 4? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Haven't heard anything, but rational thinking would suggest that such a revision would be ... silly.

A revision would be in order primarily only if there was a substantial change in the rules. Which is why the new FRCS was published when D&D 3.0 was published and PGtF again when it moved to 3.5. And even then, only the material in rules-wise needs to be updated, which is why PGtF only contained information rule updates. I still used almost all of my old 2ed material whenever I play, unless a newer supplement has been published that completely replaces the old, like with the old Spellbound box and the Unapproachable East supplement.

An example where I use both are the new Waterdeep: City of Splendors supplement and the old City of Splendors box.

04-21-07, 08:40 PM -There's no need for a "New Forgotten Realms". The Forgotten Realms have always been the same, in 1e, 2e, 3e and 3.5e. All that's changed was the medium by which the setting is presented, the current date, and a few random and assorted retcons, that are kept to a minimum.

-That's what regional sourcebooks are for! A RS (Regional Sourcebook) can have a whole lot more information crammed into it than a run of the mill CS (Campaign Setting). RS' can go into a lot more depth and detail as well. Of course, the drawback is that you can only get one region at a time.

-al-Qadim is not a continent on Abeir-Toril. Although the setting was called "al-Qadim", the continent is called "Zakhara".

-Anyway, there are currently no plans to include extended information on the extra-Faerûnian continents, let alone sourcebooks, although Brian James has said that we should look forwards for some more information concerning Kara-Tur in A Grand History of the Realms.
