Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting Sourcebook [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-31-06, 04:07 AM So i was thinking of reading the ENTIRE book cover-to-cover, just to see if i can do it. So, do you have any thoughts on why i should or shouldn't do it?

And no, it idoes not involve a bet of any kind, i just enjoy reading!

12-31-06, 04:16 AM NP, I also did it... It's a fairly good read as a primer to the Realms and its regions. For play, it's better if you could also sneak a peek at the 3.5 "Player's Guide to Faerun", as they update a lot of the features and bring it in line with other 3.5 resources.

The only book I never read LIKE a book is the DMG. I also only 'glean' what I want from other core sources, like the Complete series.

But I read every page of FR material, you'd be surprised where they hide juicy chunks. :D

12-31-06, 01:06 PM Indeed, you don't even find some of the most intriguing things until you read all the provided material. Many a time, I have been uninterested in an area, only to read the smallest little thing on it, and then have re-scoured all my volumes checking for either more info, or just added knowledge of the area ;).

12-31-06, 09:30 PM There is no 3.5e version of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book. The book people mentioned, Players Guide to Faerun, is mostly just a rules and timeline (about two years worth)update with a bit of additional info on the deity planes. The main information on the setting is still found in 3e's FRCS. If you're going to read anything cover-to-cover, that's the one.

.... have supplemental material at hand. you'll get so much info, that you'll crave more (and the FRCS can be vague at times) :ton:

you'll go into a state of curiosity induced shock without other FR books to expand on the info you just read... :banghead:

01-01-07, 10:36 AM I'm a DM and I read the whole book. But I didn't do it at once, I mean, I read it slowly... First the chapters more useful, then the others.
