Forgotten Realms is D&D.
What you are wondering about is: What is best: Forgotten Realms or Grayhawk.

As most of the people on this part of the forum would say: Forgotten Realms is far better.
Go to the Grayhawk forum, and I'm sure you will find some people who disagree with us.

The Forgotten Realms is a fantasy setting, which can be enjoyed through novels, computer games or other media beyond D&D. The mistake many make is not seeing the distinction. Many fans of the Forgotten Realms enjoy the setting without "playing the game".

I have mixed opinions, I love the forgotten realms discussions, books, games, shows (an online anime that is gone now *sniff*) and stuff like that. But when it comes down to roleplaying (pencil and paper) I kinda prefer a mix. I put it in Faerun, but i'll add somethings that i feel nessicary. (a city or legendary figure or the likes) So i guess I would have to vote Faerun (FR)

Damn straight. I'm looking forward to some ASPECTS of Eberron, but it's gonna have to REALLY good to draw me away from FR.

I really don't think there's anything to beat the Realms. What with the novels, published materials, adventures....it's an incredibly rich setting with incredible diversity and incredible potential for individual adjustment. Every DM's dream world, really.

IMHO, of course.

With customization for your own campaign and moral outlook, agreed. I for instance, don't really care for most of the drow that change loyalties from Lolth to Eilistraee. They seem to do it because Lolth doesn't care about them, not because they believe what they did in her name was wrong. And they maintain vestiges of evil behavior. Listen to Ryld and Halisstra argue when she joins the hunts conducted by Eilistraee worshippers. In my opinion, you have to work for your redemption, and it's more complex than just changing a god.

Forgoten Relms is not every DM's dream world. That entirely depends on how much work a DM puts into his own campaign.

Forgotten Realms is a part of D&D. Everything else is just a spin off of this (Novels, video games, etc.). You mihgt like chocolate better or vanilla better, but at the end of the day, both are ice cream.

Which is better? Easy. Whichever one you like better. Don't know which you like better? Try both and find out. Whichever it is, long as you're happy that's all that matters.
