| Alisttair09-14-04, 08:34 PM | I would if you could add in Erevis Cale and the rest of the Sembia gang as well as many of the new peeps (let's not forget the WotSQ drow) |
| Klyden09-14-04, 10:22 PM | Sure I can! Ummm...can you list their names and their classes though? All I really need are their names but any info on their classes would help. On a side note, does anyone like the changes I made to the Heroes and Villains of the Forgotten Realms. I kinda expected a reaction to that. Increasing the Levels of almost all the Heroes and Villains seemed like a good idea considering they've been through alot these past 3 Faerunian years. |
| Tempus66509-15-04, 02:34 AM | Well, for one, there wouldn't be a whole lot of people who would buy a book full of CR 18+ people. Second, how many of these characters are you actually going to use? I'd rather have a book with all the neutral/good organizations right now :) including some, but not many, stat blocks. |
| chme09-15-04, 03:02 AM | I would *not* buy a book full of revised stats, and I would be very angry if efforts were put into something of so little use to all but a select few DMs. A good way for me to separate books which I like from those I don't like, is asking the question: "How useful will this book be to me in one or two new editions of DnD". I'm in this for the long run. |
| Gadodel09-18-04, 05:12 PM | You know, 'Green Giant' has a pretty good thread going.... |
| Yamo09-18-04, 05:21 PM | I'd find a book of interesting new NPCs that aren't demigod level to me much more useful. |
| Telagaunt09-18-04, 05:53 PM | Since when is Elminster 30 Wizard? But I'd buy a book that had a bunch of stat write-ups of famous NPC's. Mostly new NPC's that haven't had updates, or older NPC's who haven't had recent write ups (or any at all). Such as: Telamont and some of his sons, Larloch, Jarlaxle, Erevis Cale (after the events in the Erevis Cale trilogy thus far) and the others, characters from the Year of Rogue Dragons trilogy, and some Deep Imaskar NPC's. |
| GothicDan09-18-04, 08:16 PM | I personally think stats are useless. Just giving the people basic levels is good enough. It lets the DM really custom tailor things, and surprise the players. Anyone/any player who owns the FRCS now knows the complete in and outs to a lot of the major NPCs. I'd much rather have a DM-only book of plots, personalities, goals, etc., more like the old Villain's Lorebook or, better yet, Uncaged: Faces of Sigil. I'm tired of the numbers, darn it. Give us some real ROLEPLAYING material! :D |

Give us some real ROLEPLAYING material! :D Here! Here! I've said it before, give me alignment, class(s) and level(s), deity(s) they worship (if a divine caster), race and gender for NPC's. The rest of info in the long stat blocks are not needed. :) Those long stat blocks? Snore boring! And those stat blocks take up way to much space. Instead of stat blocks fill that extra space with realmslore as Gothic mentioned. :) |
| ruleslawyer09-18-04, 11:39 PM | I third that. What kind of campaign needs Storm Silverhand's stat block, anyway? Or (even worse) Alustriel's or Elminster's? Moreover, I imagine that those rare instances in which a stat block is required probably warrant making one up anyway (or asking the good folk at Dicefreaks or these boards to come up with one). Personally, I'd find details on Storm's latest schemes, Harper and adventurer associates, or heck, even her gardening habits more useful than stat blocks! Really, I think that the FR designers need to concentrate more on opening hitherto-unexplored directions for the setting rather than 1) rehashing material that can be picked up in pdf format from svgames or rpgnow or 2) coming up with 3e stats for said material. To that end, Lords of Darkness, Silver Marches, and Serpent Kingdoms have been the best FR sourcebooks released to date. I'm hoping Shining South gives 'em a run for their money, and I'm praying that Ed'll take the time to write that merchant sourcebook he's been going on about for years... |
| dragonheart09-19-04, 12:05 AM | I've said it before, give me alignment, class(s) and level(s), deity(s) they worship (if a divine caster), race and gender for NPC's. I'd much rather have a DM-only book of plots, personalities, goals, etc., yes to both of these Idon't need full stat blocks and I do need plot hooks and fluff to work from. Sort of an updated Villains Lorebook and Cloak and Dagger together with jsut enough about the personalities to let me setthem up formyself as I need them. That said it would be nice if the class/level info made use of PRCs and perhaps having one or two NPCs full stated - with an explanation of why they did it that way. I can get more from that than from a bunch of full stats I may disagree with anyway. If they were going to do full stat blocks of all these folks I would be interested only if it were a web enhancement - and even then I would love tohave the explanations of why they chose what they chose. |
| allenchan09-19-04, 12:23 AM | Absolutely not, the high-powered NPCs are the one thing I dont like about FR |
| GothicDan09-20-04, 12:51 AM | I like high-powered NPCs... Just not a ton of them. And I think my favorite 3.5 sourcebook for FR is Lords of Darkness. UE was a waste of space/time if you had Spellbound (Ooo, you get stats for cities.. How handy! </sarcasm>), Player's Guide to Faerun was.. Well, an update, and little else.. the FRCS was pretty good.. Races of Faerun was mostly a rehash of old things... I really hope that the Shining South expands on things more than the previous edition's product did, rather than just 3E'ing the old information. |
