| Spec_Specter12-13-06, 12:52 AM | If the made a movie about the Forgotten Realms, what do you think they would make it of? Of hand I would guess they would go for one of the Drizzt books due to his popularity and that the fans would probually see it even if it was horrable... :nonono: though that being said, if they're going to do Drizzt they sould definatly go the Icewind Dale rout as it's probually the best starting point for him... |
| BrianCritchley12-13-06, 02:00 AM | I doubt they'd go the drizzt route. I doubt they'd have drow in a FR movie or any other kind of movie, it could cause them some problems. I think if they went with a FR movie it'd be a team of previously unknown adventurers. that'd be IMHO the best approuch |
| Ranger REG12-13-06, 02:26 AM | If the made a movie about the Forgotten Realms, what do you think they would make it of? The Icewind Dale Trilogy. Then make a spinoff Drizzt film. |
| GothicDan12-13-06, 10:07 AM | Unknown adventurers or the Knights of Myth Drannor. |
| Crust12-13-06, 01:54 PM | However they do it, Brendan Gleeson should be Mirt. If that doesn't happen, I'm going to Hollywood to kill those [expletive deleted] ball-lickers. ;) |
| CzarGarrett12-13-06, 02:10 PM | While it would be cool, I think there's too many problem for them to ever make a FR movie. |
| NinjaBartender12-13-06, 02:11 PM | Icewind Dale would definetely be the logical starting point of any FR movie that would likely be made, as it's pretty much the most well known of any books from that universe. Though personally, i would love to see an adaptation of the Return of the Archwizard's series...but that's mostly due to my love of the Shades. I'm curious though, who do you all think would make the best person to play Drizzt? From the martial arts aspect i believe Wesley Snipes would be able to have the role downpat after being Blade. But i don't know if he could pull off being very sensitive and caring. |
| Lord Karsus12-13-06, 03:23 PM | -As many of you know, I am going to be in the future Forgotten Realms movie. I'll be tackling the role of: Cormyrian Farmer with Pitfork #2 |

From the martial arts aspect i believe Wesley Snipes would be able to have the role downpat after being Blade. But i don't know if he could pull off being very sensitive and caring. -Being as that Wesley Snipes is currenly in quite a bit of trouble with the IRS, and is "taking refuge" in an African nation (I am mostly sure he is somewhere in Africa, anyway), I don't think that he'll be playing any roles in the near future... |
| Red_Wizard12-13-06, 06:04 PM | From the martial arts aspect i believe Wesley Snipes would be able to have the role downpat after being Blade. But i don't know if he could pull off being very sensitive and caring. I'm fairly certain this was already stated back when a movie was up in the air for creation a few years back. But for me, and i'm sure many other people here, Should they cast a really big black guy in a role like Drizzt, it would be similar in effect to taking a crap on a baby. "How does that even make sence" you ask? Precisly my point. That being said, if you, or anyone for that matter, really think Wesley Snipes could make a good Drizzt, my other cast/ Movie suggestions for you are as follows. Jackie Chan as, the lady Alustriel. Verne J. Troyer As King Obould. And in the role of Guenwyvar, Halle berry, dressed in her cat woman costume (Saving money is best). Oh, and to keep things as close to the Novels as possible I suggest having Mithral Hall set on a California Beach. That way we can have a reallly long sequence where Halle Berry runs along the waters edge, out of costume. That should run for about 45 minutes of the film. And due to budget, it will only be 46 mins long. Now too hit our target audience, i'd reccomend using the Star Wars Theme song, at varied pitches to set the mood. And maybe give Drizzt two Light Sabers, to really make this movie great. Lastly all back drops will be taken directly from Mr Dressup, too pay homage to that great man. |
| Lord Karsus12-13-06, 06:13 PM | That way we can have a reallly long sequence where Halle Berry runs along the waters edge, out of costume. That should run for about 45 minutes of the film. -How many tickets should I pre-order for all you guys? :) |
| Penknight12-13-06, 06:22 PM | Should they cast a really big black guy in a role like Drizzt, it would be similar in effect to taking a crap on a baby. "How does that even make sence" you ask? Precisly my point.... ... Oh, my God. I laughted so freaking hard, but for some reason I think that I will burn for it. But you know what? That was, as I said, freaking hilarious!! To keep people from having a low opinion of me (except for those that already do), I will attempt to sound severe and serious. Dude. Seriously. Seriously, dude. :nonono: |
| Ranger REG12-13-06, 08:56 PM | I'm curious though, who do you all think would make the best person to play Drizzt? With a very good budget, cast with a European face and apply CG makeup, much subtler than the Davey Jones character in PotC: DMC. If not, Keith Hamilton Cobb (aka "Tyr Anasazi," Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda), who already have had movie-style fencing experience. |
| Bonzai12-13-06, 09:24 PM | Lol, watch it end up being the blood stone lands saga.. It has it all. Litches, dragons, goblins, giants, kung fu monks, hot babes, and a great hero. Then watch them ruin it by casting Ben Aflek as Gareth Dragonsbane. |
| The_Shaman12-13-06, 09:41 PM | I wouldn't mind seeing the Symbul cut loose. It'll give them a chance to show off special effects, and since she's described as the grand mistress of overkill (and she's a sorceress, after all, so she knows the stuff :P ) I can't help but feel curious. Drizzt is nice, but the East has a lot more to offer. A cabal of power-hungry ultra-wizards, berserkers, witches, martial artists (hail Shou Disciple), shadow master thieves... Heck, they even have a Shou enclave in Thesk if they want to put a few ninjas in. Ah, the East... when men were real men, women were real women and the greatclub-wielding stinking monkeys were real greatclub-wielding stinking monkeys. With stench Grease :D |
| Red_Wizard12-13-06, 11:51 PM | ... ... :nonono: ;) I've learned my lesson, and i'm truly sorry :P. As for casting Keith, again, we're getting into the realm of large black guy, playing a slender, toned Dark Elf. Now, i'm sorry, but if we go around casting people in roles simply by them having something remotly in common with the character in the most basic of way's, then everything is going to suddenly become crap. When I read stuff like that, what i hear as a response is "Well Drizzt has Black skin, and well, this other guy has what we call black skin...they're kinda close right? RIGHT?" Everything is wrong with those actor suggestions. Bone structure, skin colour, muscle build, height, accent, hair type. By any reasoning like this, I can go back to my original suggestions and make wonky arguments for them. "But how can Jackie Chan play the Simbul". Well you see, the Simbul is from Aglarond, and Aglarond is part of the Unapproachable East. Now China is very east, and Jackie Chan is from China, so by process of elimination, he fits the bill. Ofcourse this is where people want to know who i'd cast in a role like that. Answer is I don't know. But what I do know is i'd be so damn picky about it, not to mention having any creator of the character on hand to personally approve or reject any potential candidates I might have selected. |

| Spec_Specter12-14-06, 12:49 AM | not to mention it's not the same kind of 'black skin', so they would have to recolor the actor's skin regaurdless making that part really moot When I ever think of a posable FR movie, I always end up thinking of the movie Underworld not for anything relateing to the movie mind you, it's just at the end, with the Hybred guy, I couldn't help thinking "Ya know, that skin coloration wouldn't look bad for a live action Drow..." >.< |
| Alurvelve12-14-06, 01:14 AM | Best person to play Drizzt in a movie would be Ray Park. He played Darth Maul in star wars episode 1 the phantom menace, Toad in the X-Men movie, was the stunt man for the headless horseman in Sleepy Hallow, and plays Allen in Gorgeous (anyone who has not seen this movie I strongly reccomend it. IMO it has 2 of the best fight seens I've ever seen hollywood do). Pikel: I would say Robin Williams Jarlaxle: Johny Depp, or James Masters (spike fomr buffy) Artemis: guy who played Batman in Batman begins, or the guy who plays Bullseye in the Daredevil movie. Catti-brie: Keira Knightly Thats all i got so far. |
| Ranger REG12-14-06, 02:30 AM | As for casting Keith, again, we're getting into the realm of large black guy, playing a slender, toned Dark Elf. Now, i'm sorry, but if we go around casting people in roles simply by them having something remotly in common with the character in the most basic of way's, then everything is going to suddenly become crap. If Keith's too bulky for you, then Jason Winston George, who once guest-starred on Stargate SG-1 on the season that Ben Bowder started his role as Col. Mitchell. He was also the guy on the Eve sitcom. Not bulky but he could use more training than what he got for playing a Jaffa. Otherwise, go with my first recommendation. |
| Sir_Wolfgar12-15-06, 06:40 PM | Catti-brie: Keira Knightly You just made it a hit right there. The Icewind Dale series makes the most sense, cause it's the most popular, and they'll go with what sells. And, no matter who else is in the cast, it will have Jeremy Irons in it. It just has too. |
| Straploknight12-15-06, 07:12 PM | -As many of you know, I am going to be in the future Forgotten Realms movie. I'll be tackling the role of: Cormyrian Farmer with Pitfork #2 Bah, a part worthy of rank amatuers, no doubt, such as yourself. | BrianCritchley12-15-06, 07:41 PM | personally I favor letting ed greenwood write a script. I'm sure he'll suprise us with something good. and something less likely to cause WOTC negitive attention then a movie where we are effectivly told "white elves are good, black elves are bad" |
| Lord Karsus12-15-06, 07:45 PM | and something less likely to cause WOTC negitive attention then a movie where we are effectivly told "white elves are good, black elves are bad" -Good point. To those unaware of what D&D is, and, what Drow are, in particular, that could be bad... |
| WhrenKehrsyn12-16-06, 01:54 AM | personally I favor letting ed greenwood write a script. I'm sure he'll suprise us with something good. Yes he probably would. It would work out for the studio too because they would save money on costumes. Only need to make costumes for the female characters to wear until the first action sequence. |
| GothicDan12-16-06, 01:59 AM | Well, the Simbul's wardrobe would be cheap, too, seeing as she tends towards all simple black robes... |
| Ranger REG12-16-06, 04:50 AM | personally I favor letting ed greenwood write a script. I'm sure he'll suprise us with something good. and something less likely to cause WOTC negitive attention then a movie where we are effectivly told "white elves are good, black elves are bad" Maybe based on one of his novels? |
| Loto_GoCeraf12-16-06, 07:42 PM | I have to agree that an original script should be written, and nothing should be taken from any of the novels. For one thing, very few novels have those big movie moments we like to see on a huge screen with monstrous surround sound (the charge of the Rohirrim comes to mind, although its spelling does not). I couldn't see the Icewind Dale Trilogy having too many of those, although the fall of the crystal tower and the defeat of Shimmergloom would probably bring up a few :OMG! Another problem would be the lack of a true main character. In the original trilogy, the entire group was considered to be the protagonist, not just Drizzt, who later got his own novels after Mr. Salvatore realized the strength of the character. People like to see a definite hero and villain in their movies, which would be a problem, should the trilogy come about; we aren't even introduced to our main bad guy until the second book. I don't mean to trounce anybody's ideas, but a couple of DnD movies have already been made, and I'm afriad that they were quite craptastic. |
| Red_Wizard12-16-06, 07:55 PM | Ok, before now I would never have blindly suggested any actor, especially one so well known, but if they ever make a movie where Khelben makes an appearence, I think it would have to be played by Al Pacino. Sounds crazy, but watch "The Merchant of Venice", and you'll see what I mean. |
| Lord Karsus12-16-06, 08:06 PM | Ok, before now I would never have blindly suggested any actor, especially one so well known, but if they ever make a movie where Khelben makes an appearence, I think it would have to be played by Al Pacino. -Khelben has already been portrayed by Patrick Stewart, in the videogame Demonstone. |
| Penknight12-16-06, 09:57 PM | -Khelben has already been portrayed by Sean Connery, in the videogame Demonstone. That was a voice over only, but Connery certainly does fit the role.Wait... I thought that the voice was that of Captain Jean luc... um, hehe... Patrick Stewart. |
| Dark Wizard12-16-06, 10:00 PM | Yup, not to mention Professor X, Gurney Hallack and Ahab. |
| Red_Wizard12-17-06, 12:50 AM | Indeed it was good ol' Patrick...but despite his voice acting part, I would have a hard time buying him as the Blackstaff in person. |
| Lord Karsus12-17-06, 07:17 PM | Wait... I thought that the voice was that of Captain Jean luc... um, hehe... Patrick Stewart. -Ah, whatever. They all sound the same, anyway. Connery would be a good Blackstaff, though. |
| The_Shaman12-17-06, 07:21 PM | I think he could be a better Elminster (I imagine Blackstaff having a gruffer, sterner voice) although an actor like him could handle both easily. Seriously, have there been rumors of a FR movie coming out soon? |
| Lord Karsus12-17-06, 07:24 PM | Seriously, have there been rumors of a FR movie coming out soon? -There are always rumors of a Forgotten Realms movie "just over the horizon". I personally hope it says that way forever...I movie, I think, would ruin so much. |
| The_Shaman12-17-06, 07:33 PM | IMO animation is better for fantasy settings, as it leaves a little more to the imagination. Of course, that presumes that said animation is done right. The LotR animated verions is... ugh. I myself like animated movies of all kinds and am an anime fan, but that sucked on so many levels it should be illegal. |

| Red_Wizard12-17-06, 11:58 PM | Agreed... |
| Blackheart12-18-06, 01:00 AM | I've agreed with everything Dan has said. However, I think focusing on specific established Realms personas is playing a tricky game. On the one hand, you have a draw that will pull fans of said characters to the film, but on the other, you could have some seriously ****** off movie-goers that wouldn't be happy if "their" character didn't live up to standard. (I think we all had grumbles about LotR, lest we forget.) Also, to make things work well, there are going to have to be some changes from how D&D movies have been made so far. First, DON'T mention D&D ANYWHERE in the title. Blurbs or other promotional material should shy away from mentioning D&D because I think we can all agree that the D&D movies have left a bad taste in our mouths, and in those of the average movie-goer, who isn't going to be knowledgable of FR or D&D except in relation to titles. I really feel like including something a fan would recognize in the title or the promotional material would be a good thing, but it doesn't have to be "Forgotten Realms," really. I'd be just as (maybe more) happy going to see a fantasy movie that "just happened" to be set in the Realms. This is unlikely, of course, as the intellectual properties would have to be given credit. I just really don't think slapping "D&D" on it would draw the crowds. Second, the cast should have one or two draws, but no more, as budget shouldn't go to paying for names. It's much better spent on effects, wardrobe, etc.. These draws should be recognizable persons, but not necessarily super stars, and some stars would have to be young enough that half the audience isn't staring at the screen going "Who are all these old people?" [I'd personally like to see Sam Waterston as a Paladin or Cleric who's growing weary after questing for years.] Third, it should take time to produce. If a movie were announced today, I'd be more than happy waiting til 2010 to see it. Yes, that's a long time away, but if the production warrants the time, then a better film can (usually) only come from the effort. After that, I think using LotR as a visual reference is a strong start for an FR (or any fantasy) production. Also, I don't feel I would be let down if the effects scale was drastically dropped (not quality, quantity) from what was seen in LotR. In fact, I feel that it would enhance the wonder surrounding magic/the fantastical. Using drow isn't a bad thing, either. Those who call the race card would be hard pressed if there was actual canonical explanation as to why the drow are such or were made alien enough from human culture, which they are in both power scaling and traits. I think using them would be a cop out, though, to placate those who are fixated. So yeah...just some thoughts. I could go on for hours about it, and have a rough grasp of who I would cast if it were up to me, etc.. |

| Dark Wizard12-18-06, 11:42 PM | A FR movie should give Jeremy Irons more roles where he chews up scenery/plots/characters with his Jeremy-Irons-esque way while wearing armor and carrying a sword. |
| Bonzai12-19-06, 09:29 AM | Recycling LotR characters is why they most certainly can't have El in a movie. Looks too much like a Gandalf clone. Lol, you were mentioning Jeremy Irons, and some how i ended up with an image of Ron Jeremy as El. LOL, scary part, was that it was oddly fitting. |

Almost every old wizard in every fantasy stories are Gandalf clones. Just don't cast Sir Ian McKellan. Or just stick with a Drizzt story. No El. |
| Diffan12-19-06, 04:54 PM | LoL, reading all of these is just too funny. I wonder how many times this thread comes up over the course of a year? Anyways, this thread came up also on RA's message board and there were TONS of people who said Wesley Snipes should play Drizzt.....pfft. If they ever do make a FR or any other DnD movie, elves in general should be played by asian people. I don't know how many times it's been stated (in FR books at least) that the people of the unapproachable east (shou) look like elves without the ears. So, that being the case, I elect Jet Li to do Drizzt. On a similar note, why hasn't WotC been in the forefront of fantasy films? I mean, I realize that the 1st DnD movie was a flop, but I still went and saw it. Hells, I think i even bought it on VHS. I even bought the 2nd DnD movie, which by the way IMO is WAY better in almost every aspect than the first movie. In any case, with movies like Lord of the Rings, Eragon (which I saw just a few days ago), Harry Potter (has to be mentioned, sorry), and classics like Conan why hasn't WotC done anything relatively good on the silver screen? If they're still worried about being compared to LotR, then they might as well never come up with the idea or lock it in a vault for 30 years. They shouldn't even worry about something like that IMO. People will compare it, but if the story line is done well, the actors picked well for their roles, and some nice computer generated graphics, the movie might go beyond LotR. Just my 2 cents. |
| Blackheart12-19-06, 08:44 PM | Well said, Diffan. I'm going to file that under "I agree with Blackheart." For...you know, ease of reference. Oh, and Jeremy Irons shouldn't be in the movie, either. Eragon, D&D, etc.. I think I've seen all the half-assed Jeremy Irons-ing I can handle for a few years. Casting him would be the same mistake recycling LotR actors is. Typecast can be tiring for fans, too. I wouldn't mind seeing a WotSQ movie. It's a strong series and doesn't toe the "Hey! You got Hollywood in my Drizzt!" line. I think the characters are strong enough to keep people wanting more (and look! 6 books!) and the setting is almost all Underdark, which would give movie-goers a taste of fantasy that's not so familiar. |
| Dark Wizard12-19-06, 08:57 PM | I knew I forgot something: :: sarcasm :: A FR movie should give Jeremy Irons more roles where he chews up scenery/plots/characters with his Jeremy-Irons-esque way while wearing armor and carrying a sword. :: /sarcasm :: Hmm, it's weird quoting yourself. |
| sickien12-19-06, 09:32 PM | Ok guys lets use that cute little thing between your ears. If a book can make legion of newbieish players make the same CG Drow Ranger just think what a movie will do... |
| Diffan12-19-06, 09:58 PM | I don't know why people hate Drizzt so much? I mean there are probably just as many half-crazed, arch-mage, chosen of mystra PC's in the realms as well. *sigh* If they did do a Drizzt's film, I'd be there, even if the reviews suck. I like to judge films for myself, not some fat guy with a tub of popcorn as a daily meal with his opinions. Also, considering the fact that R.A.'s writing is always on the best seller list, gives credit that making a movie based off of one of his books would probably sell best with the general public. Make money and a name first, THEN do stories that might not be as well known like the knights of myth drannor or a story of Elminster. Oh yea, if a book can bring newbeeish players into the realms so much the better. I'd rather have a new character find interest into something and then slowly help him make his OWN character rather than just scoffing at him for doing something already done to death. |
| Captain Jack Sparrow12-19-06, 10:17 PM | What about Jason Statham from "The Transporter" being cast as Drizzt? That being said... The movie should be done after "The Return of the Archwizards" trilogy. or perhaps "The Last Mythal" trilogy. |
| Njord12-19-06, 11:30 PM | Aren't Drow elves gray with straight white hair? There is no way a sane person could play the race card, reguardless of race or creed whoever is playing a drow will spend hours in the makeup chair for body paint and hair prosthetics. Also (and I mean no offence here) there are very few African Americans who are dainty enough to look like elves. Unless the budget is so tight they can't afford decent makeup Drizzt should be played buy a short and slender person. I like the idea of ray park but i heard he was not that great an actor. I also think he is a skick fighter (need martial arts expert for the specific discipline). |
| Ranger REG12-20-06, 01:15 AM | On a similar note, why hasn't WotC been in the forefront of fantasy films? Not to state to blatantly obvious, but WotC is a game company, and judging from the past history of layoffs-slash-downsizings, not a very big one. You want them to create a film division like WWE? :uh-huh: |
| Blackheart12-20-06, 03:29 AM | I work at a theater, so I get to watch free movies, and you know...The Marine wasn't too bad a movie in the grand scheme of things, so I guess the answer is "Yes" for at least a few of us. If they could make movies that sold, then it's not a losing situation for them. |
| Inspired_Mage12-20-06, 04:51 AM | just my 2c, but with the race of the actor playing Drizz't not really being important due to the fact they will need makeup to get it right, why not someone like Jude Law, he might make a very good Drizz't. Artemis- From a previous post i remember someone saying Antonio Banderas which i would def agree with. If they did make a movie, i agree with a previous poster that they should not menitho D&D anywhere, just release it as a fantasy film and say 'based on the best selling novels by...' and all fans would instantly know whilst newbies would go and watch depending how well they did with CG as many people did with LotR |
| Lord Karsus12-20-06, 08:57 AM | Aren't Drow elves gray with straight white hair? -No, Drow are usually of Onyx skin. Most have White hair as well, but it doesn't have to be white, and it doesn't have to be straight, either. You want them to create a film division like WWE? :uh-huh: -The WWF has a film devision? |
| Red_Wizard12-20-06, 11:09 AM | Joseph Beatte (http://www.talentedbritishactors.co.uk/joseph.html) As Drizzt. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (http://imdb.com/name/nm0182666/) Perhaps this guy for Artemis......i'm looking for no name, not big name if they ever do a movie. |
| Njord12-20-06, 11:39 AM | [QUOTE=Lord Karsus;10960907]-No, Drow are usually of Onyx skin. Most have White hair as well, but it doesn't [QUOTE] Onyx...meaning so jet black no human has it? The Drow art does not help all that much It is sometimes brown on novel covers but in "official art" Players handbook and such it is more gray in some pictures and black in others. I tend to lean more toward the less human colors. All that to say, and i think we all agree, if a movie is made the drow need to be a different skin tone than one commonly found in dark skinned humans and tanning bed addicts. |
| Faraer12-20-06, 01:25 PM | The Drow art does not help all that muchThe art is straightforwardly wrong, except for the strange compromise with it in Races of Faerűn. |
| Diffan12-20-06, 03:20 PM | I always thought that Ed Norton would play a really good Artemis. Also, concerning drow and makeup, when I bought the 'straight to DVD' movie of the 2nd DnD film they had a sorta 'behind the secenes' section on the DVD. In that section, apparently they cut out a secene where the party members fought a bunch of drow, and they showed a woman completly done up in drow makeup. It actually looked really good and I was kinda disappointed that they didn't put that scene in. |
| sickien12-20-06, 05:36 PM | There are better realms books and characters out there why does it have to be about Drizzt? |
| JaiaDrottsingr12-20-06, 05:59 PM | Didn't I once post in this thread saying: "If they make a movie of something as massive as the Forgotten Realms, it'll create a stereotype for the series? If not, I know I posted in this at least once. |
| Diffan12-20-06, 08:15 PM | There are better realms books and characters out there why does it have to be about Drizzt? Because whether or not you like it, Drizzt is the most well known. |
| MerrikCale12-20-06, 08:58 PM | There are better realms books and characters out there why does it have to be about Drizzt? not really no |
| Lord Karsus12-20-06, 11:54 PM | not really no -There's plenty of better tales and characters than the ones hilighting Drizzt and Co. I personally think that a film adaptation of Elminster in Myth Drannor would be pretty cool. If we're lucky, would could have a sequel- The Weeping War. We can dream... Onyx...meaning so jet black no human has it? The Drow art does not help all that much -That's what make-up and CGI effects are for. ;) |
| Dark Wizard12-21-06, 12:04 AM | -There's plenty of better tales and characters than the ones hilighting Drizzt and Co. I personally think that a film adaptation of Elminster in Myth Drannor would be pretty cool. If we're lucky, would could have a sequel- The Weeping War. We can dream... Though that means the good guys lose. Hollywood says no! But the awesomeness says yes! -That's what make-up and CGI effects are for. ;) Digitally putting in different color eyes in video is dirt cheap. So they can give Drizzt lavender eyes without having the actor suffer through hours of funky lenses. Though if you digitize so much of the character (SFX for fight scenes) then might as well make the movie full CG. |
| Lord Karsus12-21-06, 12:15 AM | Though that means the good guys lose. Hollywood says no! But the awesomeness says yes! -Good guys lose. Look at...The Matrix. Neo died. And, if Jesus is the protagonist/good guy of The Passion, then he certainly lost. -And, if Hollywood wanted to give it a "Happy Ending", the last couple of minutes could involve the events of DR 1380, with Ilsevele being crowned coronal. That would make the awesomeness even more awesome. |
| Dark Wizard12-21-06, 12:30 AM | -Good guys lose. Look at...The Matrix. Neo died. I guess, in true FR fashion, the status quo actually was maintained in the Matrix. Though the Weeping War changed the dynamics of the Realms, drastically even. And, if Jesus is the protagonist/good guy of The Passion, then he certainly lost. There is a continuation to that story that doesn't take 700 years, which many people, including the majority of the audience, knows about. -And, if Hollywood wanted to give it a "Happy Ending", the last couple of minutes could involve the events of DR 1380, with Ilsevele being crowned coronal. That would make the awesomeness even more awesome. The audience would simply go "What the..?" |
| MarkusTay6312-21-06, 12:52 AM | At first I thought orlando Bloom for Drizzt, but that would be too dirivitive. Then I thought Jet Li, as someone else mentioned. He's got the build, look, skills, etc... Love Antonio Banderas for Artemis, but now every time I hear his voice I think Puss-in-Boots. Sean Connery IS Azoun, not some old spell slinging gaffer. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing Death of the Dragon. It has lots of pluses for a movie (goblin armies, hot chicks in chainmail, a dragon, etc) and has the 'epic' feel a movie needs. I think 'Drizzt' has been done to death, so unlees that get Will Smith to play the part I think it will be a yawn-fest. If Elminster does make an appearance, it should only be as the storyteller (narrator), maybe seen at the very beginning and perhaps the very end (closing a storybook maybe). And, of course, he should be played by Ed Greenwood, who's been playing him for some 30 odd years already. The Spellfire novel might also be a good choice, lots of flashy magical effects; movies nowadays need that wow factor. |
| Ranger REG12-21-06, 01:40 AM | -The WWF has a film devision? Not the World Wildlife Fund, but yeah, World Wrestling Entertainment have a film division with two [cult?] films released with decent box office revenue, one horror (See No Evil starring Kane) and one action/adventure "Rambo" style (The Marine starring John Cena). I'm afraid what they're going to offer for a fantasy film, though many think HHH should do a Conan film, which IMNSHO, is far removed from the likes of FR and LOTR. |
| MarkusTay6312-21-06, 02:00 AM | Conan is considered 'Pulp' fantasy, whereas LotR's is considered 'High' fantasy. Somewhere in the middle is a fairly new category called 'low' fantasy, wherein lie your Harry Potters and Captain jack Sparrows. ;) Now why did I just get the disturbing picture in my head of Hulk Hogan playing Elminster - "What are you gonna do when the 16 inch fireballs come for you, bruther?" Hmmmmmm.... just a thought.... 3H as Wulfgar? Might work...... with Danny DeVito as Bruenor.... |
| Njord12-21-06, 09:35 AM | Ok here is an odd thought. Johnny Depp has been mentioned quite a bit for other parts...what about for Elminster? He is odd, funny, and it would be easy to age him a bit. It would draw a crowd and would also be a departure from the "oddly lovable pirate/brigand." |
| GothicDan12-21-06, 11:40 AM | The Matrix and The Passion were both abominable films. 'Nuff said. And you might as well lump them into the same film. As has been pointed out, they both revolve around a single cyclical pattern that, in the end, DOES have 'good winning.' There's no such metaplot in FR, and no concept of true destiny. |
| MarkusTay6312-21-06, 12:38 PM | Never in my wildest dreams would I lump Passion and Matrix into the same category. Only on a fantasy forum... I liked both, but I wouldn't compare them. I have to say the 2nd and 3rd Matrix movies weren't that great. Good triumphing over evil is pretty much the meta-plot of EVERY story, fable, and parable (sp?) ever written. Even when the bad guys win in a film, it's because they are usually much more likeable then the good guys, such as in the old Smokey and the Bandit movies. In Dusk 'till dawn, a bad guy wins, but he defeated even worser guys and his VERY evil brother dies. A priest dies, but he wasn't all that holy anyway. ;) As an afterthought, I think doing Drow in a movie would be too controversial; probably why the scene was left out of the 2nd D&D movie. This hobby is predominately white, and the few blacks I have met that play are intelligent enough to realize there is no correlation between Drow and Afro-Americans. I don't think someone like Al Sharpton would be so forgiving. Just think about Elves for a sec from a non-D&D point of veiw - ONLY the white ones are good, the blacks are all bad. Yeah... definately a problem with that if you don't know the history behind it. And even if you do, the good ones ones were cursed for being evil... by being TURNED BLACK?! Like I said, major can O' worms there. |
| Chloramantis12-21-06, 12:48 PM | However they do it, Brendan Gleeson should be Mirt. If that doesn't happen, I'm going to Hollywood to kill those [expletive deleted] ball-lickers. ;) You deleted the expletive but left ball-lickers! |
| Lord Karsus12-21-06, 01:28 PM | Not the World Wildlife Fund, but yeah, World Wrestling Entertainment have a film division with two [cult?] films released with decent box office revenue, one horror (See No Evil starring Kane) and one action/adventure "Rambo" style (The Marine starring John Cena). I'm afraid what they're going to offer for a fantasy film, though many think HHH should do a Conan film, which IMNSHO, is far removed from the likes of FR and LOTR. -The WWE will always be the WWF to me. That, and I stopped paying attention to wrestling a while before they became the WWE, so until fairly recently, I thought they were two seperate entities, with the WWF having fallen off the map, and the WWE taking their place as the top dog. The Matrix and The Passion were both abominable films. 'Nuff said. And you might as well lump them into the same film. -Indeed. You deleted the expletive but left ball-lickers! -Ah, the sweet irony. |
| GothicDan12-21-06, 02:44 PM | Never in my wildest dreams would I lump Passion and Matrix into the same category. Only on a fantasy forum... I liked both, but I wouldn't compare them. Are you telling me that Neo WASN'T a blatant Jesus figure? Xion? Trinity!? Chosen one of religious destiny fighting against an oppressive overlord government!? Bah! |
| MerrikCale12-21-06, 09:01 PM | -There's plenty of better tales and characters than the ones hilighting Drizzt and Co. | GothicDan12-21-06, 10:52 PM | Except for a lot of others, of course. I like El a lot more ever since I read Ed's quote about him being very similar to how Merlin was portrayed in Excalibur. |
| WhrenKehrsyn12-21-06, 11:03 PM | Never in my wildest dreams would I lump Passion and Matrix into the same category. Only on a fantasy forum... Mostly because Neo was Jesus and the film makers didnt bother even trying to be subtle about it. Elminster? more interesting than Drizzt? Elminster is perhaps the most boring, one-dimensional, retread character in all of the Realms. Thats really a matter of opinion. Some like some characters, others like others. Im not sure everyone here likes my favorite realms character (the lead girl from The Alabaster Staff), just like I dont necessarily like other peoples favorites. But how well a character is or is not writen is not a topic for this thread nor these boards. About the movie, well my preferance is that there not be one. If there was I would prefer it to be about unknowns, and cast with unknowns, with Ed Greenwood somewhere on board, be it advisor or writer. In the end though no movie made will please us. Because it wont be set where we want, feature who we want, or meet our idea of what the Realms are. |
| Lord Karsus12-21-06, 11:04 PM | Elminster? more interesting than Drizzt? Elminster is perhaps the most boring, one-dimensional, retread character in all of the Realms. -Which is more cliche? The old, wise wizard, or the renegade, who is rebelling against his society- which he clearly does not fit in- and is quite angsty. At least with the former, we get to see interesting magica spells. Except for a lot of others, of course. I like El a lot more ever since I read Ed's quote about him being very similar to how Merlin was portrayed in Excalibur. -Where have I heard that before...:) |
| MarkusTay6312-21-06, 11:39 PM | Don't want to get all zealous on you guys, but aside from a few names they plucked out of the Bible I do not see even a smattering of similarity. One humble devout man preaching the gospel of God, the other being a computer geek without ANY religous beliefs, who is so full of himself he takes on all the martial arts data in one session and then fights the toughest guy amongst his cronies. The closest thing to a preacher is Morpheus, HE is the one they all follow, and they go to some old voodoo woman for some fortune telling. yeah... that just reeks of Christianity. Oh, and Jesus was a pacifist; that movie was entirely about fighting...... I also don't think Jesus thought we were all being used to power Satan's energizer bunny, but whatever. You guys see a connection, I don't see any; thats what imagination is all about. Now anyone who doesn't think the last Star Wars trilogy was about the United State's imperilistic quest for world domination through subterfuge is blind as a bat to Hollywood subtleties. The emperor even loks a little like George Bush. ;) :P :dancin: |
| Lord Karsus12-21-06, 11:55 PM | Now anyone who doesn't think the last Star Wars trilogy was about the United State's imperilistic quest for world domination through subterfuge is blind as a bat to Hollywood subtleties. The emperor even loks a little like George Bush. ;) :P :dancin: -You see, I hate when people say that. Am I the only one who recalls that Lucas had the entire story in his mind back in the 70's, when he began directing the thing? -I remember when I saw the morning showing of RotS, my buddy took his wife and his mother along. His mom is one of those Far-Far-Far-Left types, and since my friend was preoccupied with his wife (as in conversations and all, while we were waiting on line [First ones there, too]), she was telling me all about how this movie is a parallel of what was going on (and is still going on) today. But, for a 17 year old with (then) a passing interest in politics, I think I countered her well enough. She's a nice person, though. She just suffers from an extreme case of Bush-Derangement Syndrome. -And, George Lucas isn't associated with Hollywood. His films, from the first to the last, are all independent ventures. The degree of indepencence varies, but he is an independent film director. |
| MarkusTay6312-22-06, 01:01 AM | I should have used the term 'Hollywoodesque' subtleties. ;) You were 17 when you saw these star wars movies, or the first three? ??? I'm confused because you mention 'recalling' something from the 70's. Anyhow, I just thought that the Emperor talking to Aniken about bringing peace to the galaxy....... by crushing all opposition, sounded much too much like our 'War on terror'. Doesn't matter if they attacked us, we have to eliminate 'possible' threats. Something as vague as 'possible threats' scare the pants off me, since they keep re-defining the term at what point do WE become a possible threat? Aniken killed all the younglings because they could grow up and be a threat... most likely just coincidence but there are some striking similarities. |
| Lord Karsus12-22-06, 01:26 AM | You were 17 when you saw these star wars movies, or the first three? ??? I'm confused because you mention 'recalling' something from the 70's. -Eh? My first sentence: "I remember when I saw the morning showing of RotS". RotS, as in Return of the Sith. -You misinterpreted what I said. When RotS came out, I remember how every was like, "ZOMG! Star Wars is anti-Bush/ Anti-War on Terror!". But, everyone seems to forget that Lucas first created Star Wars in the 70s, and that (asides for the intricate details) had the entire story worked out already. Thus, while everyone runs around like clucking chickens, I shake my head in wonder. -Fantasy/Science Fiction rarely delve much into symbolism. Why was...The Rogue Dragons Trilogy written? To tell a hidden story? No, to make bucks off of us fans, that's why? Science Fiction is often the same thing. Symbolism is not the inherent intent, but gets placed there by critics/readers. Case in point, Tolkien. He wrote the Lord of the Rings to tell the story of Middle-Earth- not to educate with nearly subliminal symbolism. -That's my take on things though... |
| Ranger REG12-22-06, 03:20 AM | Hmmmmmm.... just a thought.... 3H as Wulfgar? Might work...... with Danny DeVito as Bruenor.... Sighs. :nonono: What is below "pulpy" fantasy? Because you have just reached the bottom |
| Blackheart12-22-06, 03:36 AM | I disagree with Fantasy and Sci-Fi being low on symbolism. Alot. Definitely not going to go into that right now, though. I just had a thought, though...a polished-up Mooshae Trilogy would make a great movie. You have a definite goal, a terrible BBEG, and a small, focused group of protagonists. Three selling points without even delving deeper into the thing. Not to mention they were the first D&D novels I ever read. We have a winnah! |
| MerrikCale12-22-06, 10:08 AM | -Which is more cliche? The old, wise wizard, or the renegade, who is rebelling against his society- which he clearly does not fit in- and is quite angsty. At least with the former, we get to see interesting magica spells. Well, at least with Drizzt you have personal dilemmas and character development. And the secondary characters are a lot more interesting. |
| Faraer12-22-06, 11:00 AM | Thats really a matter of opinion. No, it's a canard. No one who understands or reads in detail about Elminster has that opinion.Something as vague as 'possible threats' scare the pants off me, since they keep re-defining the term at what point do WE become a possible threat?Sure, but this isn't new. Fantasy is all symbolism. That's the whole point: it works directly with symbols are archetypes instead of through layers of realism. They precisely aren't hidden. And pulp is grand and wonderful. |
| GothicDan12-22-06, 11:02 AM | We need an Elric movie. Yup. |
| Blackheart12-22-06, 11:12 AM | I second that. |
| Faraer12-22-06, 11:17 AM | Why an Elric movie? Moorcock's Elric stuff is among the weakest of his work. How about a Jerry Cornelius or Mother London movie? |
| GothicDan12-22-06, 11:19 AM | I haven't read his other stuff, yet. But if you say that it's among his weakest, I know what I'll be spending my X-mas money on: more of his books. Borders, here I come! |
| Lord Karsus12-22-06, 11:25 AM | I disagree with Fantasy and Sci-Fi being low on symbolism. Alot. Definitely not going to go into that right now, though. -Well, tell me the symbolic imagery used in...the Dungeons and Dragons Movie? Conan the Barbarian? Doom? -My point is, symbolism is often injected into stories by critics and fans, who are looking for symbolism. For the most part, fantasy stories, and science fiction stories are written to appease the fans of a particular series, or whatnot (The Realms, Star Wars...). When...Richard Baker (Just using him as an arbitrary example) wrote Condemnation, do you think he was purposefully trying to teach his readers an important lesson via the use of imagery and symbolism? I highly doubt that. Instead, there was a FR story to be told, and he wrote it, so we fans would know the goingons in the Realms. You get what I am saying? |
| Blackheart12-22-06, 11:44 AM | Through the Looking Glass, Gulliver's Travels, The Matrix, Conan, The Eternal Champion, I, Robot, all of Tolkien and most of Lovecraft's writings and, yes, even Star Wars, no matter what Lucas says. (And that from someone who is a true SW fan.) All those titles and plenty more are run through with symbolism. As Faraer said, those genres are symbolism. I think the problem is that most don't want to accept it because they want to use it for escapism, or they simply can't read into it. Socio-political topics hold up well, and affect everything, even our thought processes, because no matter how much we dislike the idea, we're still a part of the big picture. To think that an artist of any type (especially writers) can be immune to that is a naive view of things, in my eyes. It may be true that sometimes there's a story to be told and it's told, but all too often there's going to be underlying themes that mirror our own world. After all, our first social actions as babies is to communicate our feelings and it takes an immeasurable (sp?) amount of self-control to suppress that communication, because it happens subconciously as well. Like I said, that's in my eyes. Everyone has their own views and opinions. |
| GothicDan12-22-06, 11:48 AM | And, of course, the Sword of Truth is rife with symbolism; A Song of Ice and Fire is, too. The very name of the bloody series is symbolic! So too, to a lesser extent, is A Wheel of Time. (The Wheel of Time is, again, a form of symbolism.) The Kushiel novels, again, are all about symbolism... The Matrix is so symbolic it makes me sick. V for Vendetta? Yes. Again, almost enough symbolism to make me puke, but more tasteful (to me) than in the Matrix. |
| Lord Karsus12-22-06, 11:50 AM | ...all of Tolkien... -I'm a fan of symbolism, don't get me wrong, but when the author specifically states, "I did not put any sort of symbolism in my work", don't you have to believe him? -Tolkien specifically stated, many times, that his stories were not allegories of real world conundrums, and all that good stuff. He said that his works were merely the histories of Middle-Earth, and that was all they were intended to be. |
| GothicDan12-22-06, 11:52 AM | That's the question, isn't it? When is something symbolic? Me? I would say that all Sci-Fi/Fantasy is by default symbolism, because none of it is concrete or directly logical. |
| Faraer12-22-06, 12:30 PM | Symbols are innate, and exist whether or not author or readers are consciously aware of them. They're also dynamic, transcendent and infinite. Allegory in contrast is merely a code, a system of static one-to-one meanings that tends to sanctimoniousness and linearity. It's allegory that Tolkien disliked: how could he dislike symbolism when he was trying to write a myth for England? Read his "On Fairy-Stories", and the writings of the 20th-century Symbolists, for that matter. Now, a lot of commercial fantasy and SF -- but no more than fiction in general -- is not symbolically rigorous and effective. A lot of fiction uses cheap, falsifying, exploitative shortcuts. But the symbols -- of vulnerability and triumph, joining and separation, all of them -- are omnipresent and invulnerable. You don't have to put them in. |
| GothicDan12-22-06, 12:35 PM | I guess that's one of the reasons I dislike The Matrix and V's symbolism. It's so in your face it's hardly symbolism at all any more (much of it, at least). |
| MarkusTay6312-22-06, 01:38 PM | Sighs. :nonono: What is below "pulpy" fantasy? Because you have just reached the bottomYes, with Will Smith as Drizzt, Pamela Anderson as cattie Bri, the guy who plays mini-me for the halfling (forget his name), and of course Bruce Willis as Artemis Antreri. The movie might make us fans sick, but it will sell a lot of seats. :D ;) I would like to respond to nearly each of you, but suffice it to say that you can find symbolism in ANYTHING. You can even see Jesus on potato Pancake and Elvis in a dirt stain. Like I said earlier, all it takes is imagination. Some shows strive for sybolic tie-ins, such as Battlestar Galactica, while others claim they have none (Star Wars). Either way, it's there if you look for it. One last thing - Sword of Truth is a complete rip-off of Wheel of Time; he barely even changed most of the names. I happen to be reading both series concurrently, and had to stop because I kept getting confused about who was doing what. SoT is grittier, and thats what I like about it, but Al'Tor being married to 3 women just appeals to my leacherous side. :D |
| Faraer12-22-06, 03:30 PM | while others claim they have none (Star Wars).Eh? George Lucas is very clear that Star Wars is mythopoetic fantasy. He disclaims its being allegory, but that's a quite different thing. One last thing - Sword of Truth is a complete rip-off of Wheel of Time; he barely even changed most of the names. The term 'rip-off' is nearly always aggressive hyperbole for 'derivative': let's not slander authors here. Derivative I can buy, but then Jordan is not exactly a taproot text. |
| GothicDan12-22-06, 03:35 PM | Sword of Truth is also better than Wheel of Time - significantly, in some ways - so if I had to choose between the two, I'd go with SoT. And I really don't see the rip-offs that other people see. Where's the wizened old wizard archetype in WoT? Where's the male-female interactions that seem to highlight the entire WoT series? Where's the divine Dark One in SoT? Where's the Confessors and Mord-Sith in WoT? Trollocs or Trolloc like creatures in SoT? Slides in WoT? The Forsaken or the Black Ajah in SoT? The list goes on and on and.. (you get it). Sorry, but no cigar. They're both clearly European-esque fantasy Epics, but hardly carbon copies. Names? Rand is nothing like Richard; al'Thor is nothing like Rahl. Kahlan is nothing like.. Well, ANY of Richard's wives' names... Zed is nothing like Moiraine.. I'm currently up to date on both series (as well as Song of Ice and Fire and the various Kushiel novels; those four comprise my primary series for regular purchasing and reading, ASAP), and I do not see them as being analogous to one another. Rand and Richard are hardly the first young men in fantasy to possess amazing powers. |
| Bonzai12-23-06, 02:18 PM | Hmm... They could do the Moonshaes trilogy. Or at least the first book. It would lend it's self out to a movie pretty well. |
| Blackheart12-23-06, 05:00 PM | *slight derailment* Dan? Is SoT worth my time? I had a friend put me off of it not too long ago, but have been looking for something to read lately. *back on track* Good call, Bonzai. I wish I had mentioned that earlier. Heh. Dispite the amount of disagreement about what we would like to see, I'd be interested in seeing casting choices for characters some might want to see in the movies. I'm still working mine out in my head and it's hard due to my not wanting to convert a novel to a movie, though that would bring in the most revenue. Last thought... The Last Mythal Trilogy makes a few references to Araevin's old group and even features one of them early on. It might be interesting to see one of that group's adventures in a movie. As a plus, canon wouldn't be trampled (for those who care enough to cause a stink over that), and noone's favorite characters would be tampered with in ways they wouldn't like. |
| Lord Karsus12-23-06, 06:19 PM | Last thought... The Last Mythal Trilogy makes a few references to Araevin's old group and even features one of them early on. As a plus, canon wouldn't be trampled (for those who care enough to cause a stink over that), and noone's favorite characters would be tampered with in ways they wouldn't like. -Actually, there is pseudo-canon about them. Araevin and his old pals are the people who appeared on the covers and in various FR 3e Sourcebooks. So, technically, there is a timeline that does need to be followed (though, there is plenty of room to wiggle around with). |
| GothicDan12-23-06, 10:30 PM | *slight derailment* Dan? Is SoT worth my time? I had a friend put me off of it not too long ago, but have been looking for something to read lately. Yes. Richard is significantly more intelligent and mature than Rand (though Rand might be sexier..), and there are much more interesting spins on typical magical archetypes. More lately, the author's been inserting a bit of political agenda into the novels, but it's fine if either A) you ignore it or B) like that sort of thing. :) Song of Ice and Fire is still my favorite 'high fantasy' series, however. Well, either that or the Kushiel books. I can't wait for the next one... |
| MarkusTay6312-25-06, 01:58 AM | A young man is saved as a baby and raised in a rural community, finding out he is heir to unimaginable powers that he neither wants or is able to control. He finds he is also pretty good with a special sword, but the woman (women) he loves keep getting into trouble and require rescuing. There is also a crazy sisterhood of witches/sorceresses that want to chain him up and use them for their own nefarious purposes, all the while he is trying to find out more about his destiny in ancient tomes of prophesies. Now which series did i just describe, Hmmmmmm? ;) Rand/Rahl - no similarities there  Renna and Raena, Venna AND Verna, I could go on, but you get the point. This is just the tip of the iceberg, but if you want the complete low-down you can read my thread on my other forum - The Link (http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=14249) It's an old thread, but it's about this VERY subject. |
| Red_Wizard12-25-06, 09:56 AM | I agree whole-heartedly that symbolism is where a person wishes to see it. Sometimes the case may be that the author, or director was going for some "brilliant" take on one political system or another, but more often than not a Book is a Book, and a Film is a Film. I find it increasingly annoying that people wish to read into it further. If an Author, or a Director simply comes out and says "No it is as it is", how can anyone argue a valid point that there is some hidden message in it all.. Just cause you might see the evil monkey in the closet, doesn't always mean it's there. Though for messages within films, I will point out how tired I am of seeing the ever growing ammount of "Pro American" Propoganda esq., underlieing crap that is steadily dominating the tone of most movies I drift into see these days. I get the point of how they are trying to portray the role of the states versus the world, but I miss films that were about the story I go in too see. |
| draco111912-25-06, 10:38 AM | Don't want to get all zealous on you guys, but aside from a few names they plucked out of the Bible I do not see even a smattering of similarity. The emperor even loks a little like George Bush. ;) :P :dancin: Since when was Jesus a pacifist? He was a burly carpenter who hung out with with burly fishermen. He also drove the money-lenders from the temple. Yupm, sounds like a 98 pound wekling to me. As for the religious symbolism in The Matrix, try reading some of the Wachowski brothers' interviews. THEY are the ones who said it was rife with symbolism. -You see, I hate when people say that. Am I the only one who recalls that Lucas had the entire story in his mind back in the 70's, when he began directing the thing? Nope. I also recall that it was supposed to be 9 chapters long, with a planet of Wookies. When he realized he couldn't do a planet of them, he made one, and had a planet of mini-Wookies. I should have used the term 'Hollywoodesque' subtleties. ;) You were 17 when you saw these star wars movies, or the first three? Yup, sounds just like the Holocaust, Inquisition, and Salem Witch Trials rolled into one... I disagree with Fantasy and Sci-Fi being low on symbolism. They weren't just the first ones you read, they were the first ones written. And if you really want a sci-fi /fantasy book/movie/series heavy with religious symbolism, try The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe... |

THEY are the ones who said it was rife with symbolism. Then they sucked at it, because I still don't see ANY connection. Jesus wasn't a weakling, but he preferred finding peaceful solutions; I'm pretty sure he wasn't a martial arts expert. I'm a fan of BOTh series, but I'm tired of waiting for the third testament to come out. Nope. I also recall that it was supposed to be 9 chapters long, with a planet of Wookies. When he realized he couldn't do a planet of them, he made one, and had a planet of mini-Wookies. So you guys think that in thirty years he pretty much kept everything EXACTLY the same as when he first envisioned it? So he meant for Luke to give a romantic kiss to his own sister? What a perv! Yup, sounds just like the Holocaust, Inquisition, and Salem Witch Trials rolled into one... Or the war on terror, or Wako Texas, or the US Gov't imprisoning Japanese-American citizens in concentration camps during WWII, or the placing of American Indians on reservations... They weren't just the first ones you read, they were the first ones written. And if you really want a sci-fi /fantasy book/movie/series heavy with religious symbolism, try The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe...C.S.Lewis is a Christian author, and he freely admitted that Aslan IS Jesus. It wasn't meant as Sci-fi/fantasy, it was meant to bring Christian concepts to young children, so that is a very poor example. |
| Gideon_Prime12-26-06, 05:51 PM | Ladies and Gentlemen... back to your corners! The referee has called a time out on this battle of wits on account of bad sportsmanship and being totally off topic. When I started reading this thread, several pages ago, it was about the dream (and hopefully someday reality) of a movie and its stars. Now it's devolved into banter over symbolism in fictional literature, copyright infringement vs. artistic license, and whether Keanu Reeves will be our new savior in the coming days. Were I to touch on each of these topics, as much as I'd like to, it would only further degenerate the thread. But I feel I may have to anyway. Mankind has been around for quite a few years now. We've had some time to tell each other stories. So to think that two different people, somewhere and at sometime, could tell a story with similar elements, is not particularly unheard of. There are only so many ways you can tell a story of a protagonist overcoming events to save the day. So to argue over who wrote what story, and who borrowed elements to write their own... it's a waste of time and processor speed IMHO. As for symbolism... I could go on for quite a while. But the main argument here seems to be about biblical references in various stories. While my own beliefs would color any religious discussion various shades, I will say this. A book written how many years ago could do with a retelling once in a while. People, places, and events that were relevant at one time, may need a modern twist to make it appealing to today's audience. Now... I'm sure that this will not quell any further debate. In fact, I'm almost positive that it will only incite further banter and ridicule. But I endeavor to steer our course back toward the intended path. So without further ado... I would most definitely make a Drizzt movie. Or depending on the following, a short series like LotR. Too many sequels would eventually run the audience into the ground, although Harry Potter seems to be doing alright so far. "Harry Potter? LotR?" you say. "Did he speak the unspeakable titles?" you ask. It should be apparent to all of you that fantasy movies do exist. The market is open to new ideas. And they are obviously testing different approaches to turning book into film. So yes, I think with enough focus and determination, they can make a movie that fans will appreciate, and newcomers will still be interested in. Perhaps even enough to restart the interest in the series, if not the game as well. As for stars, I am hard pressed to think of fitting actors for very developed roles. Everyone wants to use well known faces. We've seen them so often; we've grown accustomed to them. "Any movie with ????? is a good movie" we say. So perhaps some new faces would liven up the movie market. I leave that to agents and film makers to acquire fresh meat. Til then... can we get back to the topic at hand, which is "Who plays Drizzt and Co.?" Drizzt needs a good character actor. Someone to portray his almost cliché moral-bound lifestyle. And yet, we need someone who can wield two swords the likes of which we've never seen. I'm almost convinced we need a master swordsman stunt double, and we'll just have to live with distantly viewed fight scenes rather than up close as are portrayed in novels. Bruenor needs a gruff and yet sensitive actor. Someone who can bellow is angry dwarven one moment, and be compassionate and jovial the next. If I had to pick a face, it'd be a much shorter version of Hagrid. Cattie-brie is so hard for me to imagine, I have no idea who to get. In picturing the dwarf raised human, I see a short and rather round young girl. But in being trained and battle hardened, I see a taller and well toned young woman. So to find someone with an almost cherub face, body that can handle a sword or bow whilst armored, and yet a playful and ever youthful personality... Wulfgar the towering barbarian, with all his rippling muscled imagery. Whoever is cast, should hopefully bring some estrogen into a clearly testosterone driven interest. Given his stature over the rest of the group, I see more camera trickery as in LotR, wherein the tallest actor was the shortest character. Entreri... my first thought is Bruce Willis. Perhaps because he was suggested earlier. Perhaps because his past few parts have been unfeeling assassins. His appearances in a movie would be limited I'm sure, and his stunt double would have to be the brother or sparring partner to Drizzt's double. So many characters... so many books. It truly would depend on where in the lives and times of the Realms the movie took place. Some books merely introduced certain people, but didn't really touch on them for long. Some had so many different faces that casting them all would be a tiring process. I would say sometime from Icewind Dale onward. Maybe squeeze a couple books together, then make a set like LotR. I know they'd have my ticket money. |
| Mathas12-26-06, 06:29 PM | So far there's been a lot of talk about Drizz't, the Symbul, The East and the like..but what about the other characters..characters like Artemis Entreri....yeah sure I hate his guts because he re-arranged the looks of my Ranger and his Wolf...stupid ass....but still, yeah he's an imp[ortant figure. And what about that old geezer who lives in the magic whindmill...err..Elmnster is his name methinks..yeah that's him.. Sure ol' Elminster is a sagely guy who they evolved from second edition, changed his age so he looks young again, gave him a stupid sword, he gets to bang the Symbul...and ummm...well okay yeah he's an important figure too..even if he does smell like cabbage and ignores everything a party does unless it involves himself or the Dale's directly... But we're not really talking about charactersare we..no we're talking about a FR movie. A movie that made will be aced with hard critics since a lot of gamers out there play and or read about the setting. No we're talking about a setting where everything would have to be done to the exact perfection of an unbroken glazed doghnut...something hard to do. No doubt Mr. Greenwood will play a big hand in the movie if it ever does go to the big screen and off of books, pen and paper, and the devious minds of a few DM's I know. So lets say this movie does get made, as a starting point for the film I'd like to see either the Dale's or Cormyr covered..places a lot of people are really famillair with..or even Waterdeep. An entire film..or an entire two films could be made around that place. But with Waterdeep there's the problem with getting on location filming rights from Peirgeron...well that might not be a problem..unless they wanted to film in Skullport, then they'd probably have to trade some of the film crew into slavery or something to get access. I know, some of oyu out there are probably saying film it in New Zealand like they did the LOTR trilogy...but New Zealand? Okay..LOTR was filmed there, Hercules the series was filmed there, Xena was filmed there, sure it has a magical fantasy feel to it..but..well I'd like to see something fresh. As for Eragon, not sure where it was filmed, haven't seen the movie yet so don't know the credits. As said before in previous posts, if made at all, this will NOT be an easy movie to make. If any of you have seen the movie Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of The Dragon God....which..had nothing to do with a Dragon God at all, just a Collosal Black Dragon who hurled around a few fire balls thanks to it's awakening by Damodar...that wasn't a bad movie at all. It was filmed in Eastern Europe but with a tight filming schedule of a total of nine weeks, with very little use of CGI effects. Talk about pressure. Now on the other hand..say they do make a movie about the Realms. As I said before, and it probably will happen if the movie was made...it's gonna meet a lot of criticism..mainly by us..the fans and players of the setting. Forget about Siscal (sp?) and Ebert...critics they may be, but when it's a setting like this we, the fans and players, could either be it's best friends, or its worst enemies. If the movie is a success, it may attract a new fan following and or players, if it's a flop, yeah we might be dissapointed with no real hassle. If it just outright stinks from the plot point...we may nevere be able to look at, read, or play in the Realms the same way ever again..resulting in a fan loss, and possibly a player loss as well. But who to cast as characters? Especially with important "household name" characters that we all know and love, and some we even love to hate....with these icons such as Artemis, Khelban "Blackstaff", Elminster, Drizz't, Mirt, Lady Alustriel....they couldn't just cast anyone to fill their shoes. The acotr or actres would have to be dedicated to the role, have a lot of acting experince, particulary in the Drama and or Action fields, and a well known name..or even a little known name to the U.S. There's a lot of good European Actors out there too ya know. (Personally, I always saw Sean Connery as a good Elminster for some reason) But as said before..it's gonna be hard movie to make..if ever made. We the players and fans will be its biggest challenge, and the authors and creators of the world are good to be cautious about signing a contract line allowing a studio to do such a thing..as I'm sure like us they too have thought about a FR movie. |

Alustriel = Teri Hatcher Entreri = Edward Norton |
| Blackheart12-27-06, 12:52 PM | Funnily enough, Jason Statham (the guy from The Transporter) would be who I would suggest for Artemis. Not in the role of a dwarf... I'm really not of the opinion that huge Hollywood names should be used. Of course, I'm not of the opinion that you even need a half-decent actor to play Drizzt if they were to go that route (which I really hope they wouldn't), because he says little and is all emo anyway. Fights can be CG enhanced or doubled-in. Or fights can be handled like in The Musketeer and have the shots so tight that you can't see the action, only hear it. |
| Ranger REG12-27-06, 05:09 PM | Drizzt = Jaleel White After slaying a thousand orcs, Drizzt finally asked in a nasally voice, "Did I do that?" |
| MarkusTay6312-27-06, 05:41 PM | I would have to third this choice. :D I just picture him walking in, drooling at cati-brie, and looking over at Bruenor and saying (insert nassaly voice again) "Hi Bruennor!" And Bruennor (who I still think should be played by Danny DeVito) would roll his eyes and ask - "Drizzt, how did you get in here? I thought I locked that door!" Seriously for a minute here, how about the chick from titanic for cati (Kate Winslet)? She's got the cute round face, and the equipment to pull it off. also, definately Halle Berry as one of the Baenre girls if they do the war with menzoberrazan. Mmmmmm... Halle Berry.... Being silly again - How about Jack Nicholson as that battlerager, he's got the personality. Although Adam Sandler would work too... Hey! How about Jim Carrey for Jarlaxle? Seriously, he could pull it off, he did a decent joker and he's got the whole flamboyant thing down pat. |
| draco111912-28-06, 04:28 AM | Jaleel White's actually a fairly tall, fairly attractive black guy who doesn't have the nasally voice normally. Or maybe RuPaul Charles as Drizzt? :D |
| Lord Karsus12-28-06, 07:37 PM | -Oh, let's just cast Boy George while we're at it... |
| MerrikCale12-28-06, 07:47 PM | -Oh, let's just cast Boy George while we're at it... he'd make a great Bruenor |
| Lord Karsus12-28-06, 07:52 PM | he'd make a great Bruenor -I was actually thinking more along the lines of Catti-Brie... |
| MerrikCale12-28-06, 07:57 PM | -I was actually thinking more along the lines of Catti-Brie... Nah. That would be Justin Timberlake |
| Penknight12-28-06, 08:48 PM | Nah. That would be Justin TimberlakeOr Leonardo DiCaprio. |
| MarkusTay6312-29-06, 02:51 AM | Nah. That would be Justin TimberlakeYou need to get over here right now and clean the snot off of my monitor  He gets the part, use Boy George for that wench Wulfgar was bangin' for awhile. We just gotta make Lucy Lui a crazy Drow chick! Mike Myers for that weasly rogue that befriended Wulfgar, and Artemis Entreri ACTUALLY PITIED. The Rogue: "Am I makin' you hawney baby?" Artemis:"Say what?!":D |

Actually, instead of Kate Winslet, how about Kelly MacDonald from Trainspotting? She also fits the afore-mentioned criteria, but is less known, and (IMO) hotter! |
| MarkusTay6312-29-06, 07:50 PM | I had to Google that, never heard of her. Ummmm.... errrrr... Were you joking? I've never even heard of the movies she's done (and there were quite a few). But from there, I found the 'Lassie' movie (How many remakes does that make?), and from that I found our Bruenor!!! Peter Dinklage (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0431213/Ss/0431213/iid_991757.jpg.html?path=gallery&path_key=0431213) The guy is perfect, and they can save on special effects! I mentioned mini-me earlier to play the halfling (why can't I ever remember his name?). The actor is actually about a foot shorter then my Bruenor choice! Thats the perfect hieght differenc between a dwarf and a halfling! I'm a genius! :D Oh, and that actor's name is Verne troyer (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Film/1944/pics1.html) Still can't remember that annoying halfling though......... |

No, I was serious. Trainspotting is the only movie I've ever seen with her in it, and it was filmed when she was 18ish (10-12 years ago). It's definitely worth watching. But from there, I found the 'Lassie' movie (How many remakes does that make?), and from that I found our Bruenor!!! Verne wouldn't work as Regis, since his condition leaves him fairly uncoordinated. Kinda works against being a successful thief... |
| draco111912-31-06, 03:59 AM | Another thought for who could play Catti-brie: the girl who played Susan in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Edit: Her name is Anna Popplewell (http://www.imdb.com/gallery/ss/0363771/C80.jpg.html?path=pgallery&path_key=Popplewell,%20Anna&seq=8). |
| MarkusTay6312-31-06, 11:43 AM | Okay, if we just wait like 2 more years, both the girl from the Harry Potter movie (Emma Watson) and the one from the Series of unfortunate Events movie (Emily Browning)will be old enough. I like Emma, but now she's Hermione and everyone knows it. I would prefer Emily Browning, (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0115161/) shes got the look, is a great little actress, and is cute as a button. Did I REALLY just use that expression? :yuck: |

I don't believe he is gay. In fact, he had a girlfriend, who subsequently died, and was going to have a child, until it was stillborn. That's pretty sad, actually. Poor guy. He has repeatedly denied being gay, and has said he would like to, "like to get married and to have children". ...he has the build of a drow... -Eh. Drow are fairly lithe, slim, and a little short. Reeves is 6'1", which is a bit tall for a Drow male. Females are around the size though, I believe. ...and he can do the martial arts stuff (practice w/matrix trilogy) -What does that matter? When did Drizzt ever do martial arts? |
| GothicDan01-01-07, 03:44 PM | Ian McKlellan's a gay actor, though. AND AMAZING! |
| Lord Karsus01-01-07, 03:48 PM | -He should play King Azoun IV. What irony... |

| MarkusTay6301-01-07, 04:13 PM | I said it before, and I'll say it again, Sean Connery IS Azoun! I have a rather strangs idea for Drizzt, so just here me out: The Rock - At first I thought give him a wig and he could be Wulfgar, but then I thought "Nah, he's to Polynesian looking, he has more of an Elf look to his face... hey... wait a minute..." Although he is muscular, he has more of a tight build then many wrestlers, and he is very agile and we KNOW he can do fight scenes. The only problem here is his size (he's well over 6'). They did AMAZING special effects with peoples sizes in LotRs, so picture it - The Rock playing Drizzt! I'm serious this time, if you just digitally shaved a foot off his hieght he would be perfect. This would also have the added benefit of making him more slender, yet still well muscled. He has the perfect face for the serious, dark, brooding persona of Drizzt. Why heck, we can even have him give Drizzt that 'raising one eyebrow thingy' he's so famous for. Add it to drizzt canon: The Raise single eyebrow Feat - adds +2 to intimidation checks or gives you +2 to reaction rolls when dealing with the opposite sex (chicks dig it). He's also a decent actor, and isn't as 'A' list as some of the other choices, so the part would be somewhat more believable. Of course if you use my other suggestion of HHH for Wulfgar this whole thing becomes too cheesy. |
| Lord Karsus01-01-07, 04:16 PM | -Do you smell what the Drow is cookin'? -I stopped watching wrestling right before he developed that phrase, so it makes absolutely no sense to me... |
| Spec_Specter01-01-07, 08:32 PM | The Rock as Drizzt? I would both love that and hate it >.< on one hand, I really like the Rock as an actor, but it's just really hard to see him in that role... |
| guitarlover6501-01-07, 08:41 PM | ::Sigh...:: -That's news to me. I don't believe he is gay. Drow are fairly lithe, slim, and a little short. Reeves is 6'1", which is a bit tall for a Drow male. Females are around the size though, I believe. female drow are alot bigger around the middle based on information from the books but i agree about the height....but idk bout make drow height -What does that matter? When did Drizzt ever do martial arts? a HUGE part of drizzt's life is martial arts.....when he is at the acedemy,he isnt even allowed to bring weapons in the training area which would lead on to beleive that they are training in some martial art form....plus when drizzt finds the parry to the double-cross down that is about 75% martial arts i would say cuz he is kicking the guy in the face |
| guitarlover6501-01-07, 08:42 PM | wow, I can acually really see that >.> I secound this :D 3rd |
| Lord Karsus01-02-07, 12:48 AM | a HUGE part of drizzt's life is martial arts.....when he is at the acedemy,he isnt even allowed to bring weapons in the training area which would lead on to beleive that they are training in some martial art form.... -Would you call a wrestler, or a street brawler a martial artist? And anyway, there is no indication on Drizzt's character sheet that he is proficient in any martial art or martial art form. plus when drizzt finds the parry to the double-cross down that is about 75% martial arts i would say cuz he is kicking the guy in the face -Drizzt finding the weakness to Zaknafein's attacks would make him skilled with a blade/blades, not a martial artist. Would being able to build a computer make me an electrician? Would being a fisherman make me a chef? -And, it doesn't take much skill to kick someone in the face. I would hardly call that 'martial arts'. |
| MarkusTay6301-02-07, 02:57 AM | If Clint Eastwood was a little younger, I could see him as Zaknafein - "Do you feel lucky Drizzt? Well, do ya'... PUNK?" :D |
| Ranger REG01-02-07, 03:10 AM | You need to get over here right now and clean the snot off of my monitor  He gets the part, use Boy George for that wench Wulfgar was bangin' for awhile. We just gotta make Lucy Lui a crazy Drow chick! Mike Myers for that weasly rogue that befriended Wulfgar, and Artemis Entreri ACTUALLY PITIED. The Rogue: "Am I makin' you hawney baby?" Artemis:"Say what?!":D Sighs. :bored: If you intend on this direction for the film, better to hire a scapegoat director/producer. I nominate GothicDan. :evillaugh |
| Lord Karsus01-02-07, 03:21 AM | -I second that. Strangely enough, he might be able to make a coherent story, and a decent film. Maybe. |
| Blackheart01-02-07, 03:58 AM | A martial art is any set of maneuvers or disciplines formed into one style. Thus, streetfighting is a martial art, as is sword fighting, fencing, etc.. Being loose with terms like that only causes confusion. On another note, I'm glad someone seconded my Statham idea, but I still hold to the vast majority of the cast being no-name. Villains, especially, should hold to the unknown casting, because it gives the movie-goer someone to despise without being torn because he/she were really good in Such-and-Such movie. Besides, Statham with hair is an odd sight. |
| MarkusTay6301-02-07, 11:16 AM | How about Vin Diesel for Drizzt? After all, he beat-up an entire galaxy of Necromungers so he is almost as tough. And why are we stiil trying to do a Drizzt movie? It's too cliche'. How about doing Starlight and Shadows? You still get some Drow, but you also get a second movie with Viking types and a third with Slavic witches and nature spirits. Not my favorite FR tale by far, but its got the cool settings and angsty characters for a great movie. We could just use ANY of our Wulfgar choices for Fyodor, and I have the perfect girl for the Drow Liriel- That crazy japanese schoolgirl ninja from Kill Bill 2. She looks EXACTLY like Liriel from the cover of Windwaker, and obviously she has what it takes to play a nasty Drow. I just don't know if Drow girls wear catholic Schoolgirl uniforms....... If not, they should. :D |
| GothicDan01-02-07, 11:17 AM | I would be able to do it awesomely. However, I'd probably also end up killing half the cast when they didn't do the job right. Think Magneto. |
| MarkusTay6301-02-07, 11:28 AM | Think Magneto. He'd make a great director! But not as Elminster, uh-uh, now way.... just can't picture him with a pointy hat and staff and beard... he's way too serious an actor for that part. ;) |
| GothicDan01-02-07, 12:39 PM | I'd make a good Larloch. Or Sun Elf Baelnorn High Mage. I'm quite versatile, you know! (Just don't ask me to kiss any girls!) |
| Lord Karsus01-02-07, 06:51 PM | -Will I be able to reprise the role that gained me international stardom- Cormyrian Farmer with Pitchfork #2? Please, Dan, Please! -Tell you what- I'll even do you a favor. I'll be your stuntdouble for all the girl kissing scenes. How's that? |
| GothicDan01-03-07, 02:07 AM | Why would girls want to kiss a farmer? ;) |
| MarkusTay6301-03-07, 03:23 AM | It's not what you do for a living, but the size of your farm implement that matters. ;) |
| Ranger REG01-03-07, 08:09 PM | It's not what you do for a living, but the size of your farm implement that matters. ;) Umm, any one particular farm implement you have in mind? ;) |
| derekkohn01-03-07, 09:18 PM | imo in think the making of a FR movie would be a good thing. it would have to be done w/ a fine tooth comb. & watched over by ED himself. could it be done? Yes. to date mysef, i saw the movie "Dragonslayer" in the theater. an awsome flic. at the time. didin't care for the ending. Dragon eats mage who blows up do to breaking of gem, king comes by & sticks sword into dead dragon. but i was hooked. i'd go w/ the "Shadows trilogy" for the movie those two Harpers are nuts! |
| Seans01-03-07, 09:58 PM | I doubt they'd go the drizzt route. I doubt they'd have drow in a FR movie or any other kind of movie, it could cause them some problems. I think if they went with a FR movie it'd be a team of previously unknown adventurers. that'd be IMHO the best approuch I don't think a Drow would be as bad if you carried the idea of an elf. Ever since the Lord of the Ring films the fantasy genre in writing and movies has been more acceptable. |
| Blackheart01-03-07, 10:15 PM | Umm, any one particular farm implement you have in mind? ;) Plough, of course. It's even referenced in the norty bits of the "Good Book," which isn't to be confused with the "Good Ship Lollipop." Though both have their place in..*shuts up before someone takes offense* :D |
| Lord Karsus01-04-07, 08:23 PM | It's not what you do for a living, but the size of your farm implement that matters. ;) -Exactly. Girls want to kiss me because I have a large plow. But, if they don't want to kiss me, it's okay. I have a few hoes in the shed...Oh, how I love farming humor! :D |
| MarkusTay6301-05-07, 11:22 AM | You shovel it deep LK, after reading that I want to rake my eyes out. ;) And yes, I've plowed many a field in my day, and planted many a seed. I have four sons, three of which now play D&D with me. I must have used some good fertilizer. :D |
| Ranger REG01-05-07, 03:36 PM | And yes, I've plowed many a field in my day,... Just one field? |
| Purple Dragon Knight01-05-07, 05:50 PM | "Many a field" means "many fields" |
| Azar_of_Faerun01-05-07, 05:58 PM | So, spell effects -> Do you think they can look well enough with CGI, or would it end up "killing the magic" so to speak? |
| Wellin_Adipocere01-05-07, 08:10 PM | If a movie were to be made it would have to be casted with at least one big name. Movie studios wouldn't trust making a fantasy film (with heavy special effects) that will need a big budget to be a quality film on the back of a no-name cast. Also I'd have to cast Bruce Campbell as Elminster. |
| MarkusTay6301-06-07, 02:34 AM | Bruce campbell has definately got to be in it, but I see him as more of the Captain of the gaurds or the mayor of ten Towns. Kraggy, but still full of pi$$ and vinegar. After seeing LotRs AND the Harry Potter movies I think spell effects could be done excellent! :D The only thing I would worry about is if any Drow 'fly'. I always hated that spell, and levitate is nearly as bad. I know the authors have had various Drow levitating around, especially in WotSQ, and I'm pretty sure Drizzt does it a few times, at least in the first few novels. So, my solution to that, at least for the movies, is have them 'stick' to walls and ceilings, ala Spiderman. If they are floating around fighting it will look like some sort of cheesy Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon effect, and it will make them look plain silly. Sticking to surfaces, while not canon, gives them a whole new level of creepiness. You could still have them leaping around slashing at each other, but at least it will look spooky rather then silly. Just my :twocents: |

Just my :twocents: You didn't like the flying on Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? I thought the flying from roof to roof and tree to tree was pretty cool and added a bit of fantasy and myth to the story. I think if you take the floating out of the story you will lose the connection of fantasy with the books. Just me though though! |
| Wellin_Adipocere01-06-07, 02:12 PM | The levitation would be all right. The problem would be when people start to fly there is a noticable change from real-life to CG and it looks cheesy. I'm sure they have technology to work it out soon but Eragon's flying battle's looked a little unpolished and that is a pretty current film. So you could have levitation to stop falls or rise to a roof but to showcase something like a flying wizard battle would take better technology than we currently have shown. Also I don't want to start anything but I feel Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was more of an art film and though it was beautiful I'd demand more grit and blood in FR duels. |
| Paledrow01-06-07, 04:16 PM | -Exactly. Girls want to kiss me because I have a large plow. But, if they don't want to kiss me, it's okay. I have a few hoes in the shed...Oh, how I love farming humor! :D I think you know a girl doesn't kiss you for the plow's sake. Think like a girl for just a moment.... Big plow = more field plowed More field plowed = more crops More crops = more money more money = girl wants to kiss you. |
| Ranger REG01-06-07, 09:43 PM | "Many a field" means "many fields" It could also mean "one field, many times" ;) |
| Purple Dragon Knight01-06-07, 11:39 PM | It could also mean "one field, many times" ;) Sigh... |
| Lord Karsus01-06-07, 11:42 PM | -Ah, I love how this degenerated into talking about thinly veiled sexual innuendo... |
| guitarlover6501-06-07, 11:47 PM | i could see clint eastwood doin Zak also |
| Lord Karsus01-06-07, 11:53 PM | i could see clint eastwood doin Zak also -There is no Brokeback Mountain on Faerűn. Heh...;) |
| GothicDan01-07-07, 12:10 AM | LK, you know as well as I do that there are plenty of Brokeback Mountains in Faerun. ;) (I tuned into the end of that movie and cried. Just one tear.) Anyway, I LOVE FLIGHT. Any sort of flight. It's a purely personal, immature thing. I've had dreams of magical flight since I was all of 3, and still do. So, flight? YES PLZ! |
| Lord Karsus01-07-07, 12:33 AM | LK, you know as well as I do that there are plenty of Brokeback Mountains in Faerun. ;) (I tuned into the end of that movie and cried. Just one tear.) -When you find it on the map, please tell me. So far, there ain't one. |
| GothicDan01-07-07, 12:51 AM | Sure there is. I'm not going to tell you where it is, either. Ha. |
| Xullvier_Rinok01-07-07, 01:21 AM | Jet Li= Drizzt |
| draco111901-07-07, 04:00 AM | Jet Li= Drizzt Better idea. And a complete unknown, to boot! Remember the end of Underworld? Where the huge black Lycan was ripping people apart until he fought the guy wielding two whips? Have the whip-guy be Drizzt. |
| Wellin_Adipocere01-07-07, 01:11 PM | Everybody keeps talking about Drizzt, how about Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Vangerdahast? I wouldn't mind a Cormyr film. |
| Wellin_Adipocere01-07-07, 01:15 PM | Also i feel that Daniel Craig could make a great Azoun or Gareth Dragonsbane. I don't know if he can grow proper beard...:D |
| MarkusTay6301-07-07, 01:30 PM | Sure there is. I'm not going to tell you where it is, either. Ha.Its obviously on Evermeet, Elves have always been a 'little flakey'. ;) Thats the real reason why Corellon cursed the Drow, he broke a nail! Okay, we need to get away from both Drizzt and sexual innuendo. Lets go a different route for awhile. How about Michael Jackson as Szass-Tam? He wouldn't even need make-up. Kevin Spassey as Vanderghast? The guy who played Hannibal king in Blade 3 for Finder Wyvernspur. (his names Ryan Reynolds). Kate Beckinsale (Underworld 1&2) as Alias (I know she had light hair, but I just don't see Jessica Simpson or Cameroon Diaz doing it. Hard to find a harcore blonde. |
| Seans01-07-07, 01:56 PM | Jet Li= Drizzt Jet Li would be great for Dritzz! |
| Wellin_Adipocere01-07-07, 02:11 PM | Ryan Reynolds would work well, good Canadian boy. This next one might sound crazy...Hillary Swank as one of Lolth's preistesses. She has a muscular form and an angular face that would work well with make-up. She could be a regualr elf as well i guess. Looking for a hardcore blond? How about Elisha Cuthbert from 24? Another Canadian I might add. |

| Ranger REG01-07-07, 05:34 PM | Sigh... Do you limit one plowing per person, err I mean field? ;) |
| Xullvier_Rinok01-07-07, 06:09 PM | Anyways, maybe I'm an idget who doesnt care to research anything when a thread is this long...but is there actually a FR movie comin out? *prepares to run from a potential mob of angry people* |
| Lord Karsus01-07-07, 06:12 PM | Okay, we need to get away from both Drizzt and sexual innuendo. Lets go a different route for awhile...Hard to find a harcore blonde. -You want to get away from sexual innuendo, yet you mention 'blonde' and 'hardcore' in the same sentence... -Alright, I'll stop now. I've fed myself up. |
| MarkusTay6301-07-07, 09:01 PM | Yes, lets not go there. Finally was able to access my old hard drive yesterday and retrieve all of my old files. Compare the times it took me to transfer the files from one computer to another - Pictures of my family - 5 minutes 20 years worth of accumulated D&D stuff - 17 minutes My porn collection - 45 minutes. Thats just sad, I really should get my priorities straight. I really should have more pics of my kids then D&D stuff. ;) |
| Lord Karsus01-07-07, 11:26 PM | -Well, that really says it all...:) |
| GothicDan01-08-07, 12:16 AM | Ryan Reynolds is also incredibly hot. I vote for him for... Things. |
| Lord Karsus01-08-07, 12:26 AM | -Who is that? -You know, I really don't know who any of these people are, which is really why I make few actual and meaningful contributions to the cast list. |
| GothicDan01-08-07, 12:39 AM | Ryan Reynolds: http://i1.tinypic.com/rthj5f.jpg Booyah! |
| MarkusTay6301-08-07, 01:34 AM | Okay, just decided Finder Wyvernspur will NOT take his shirt off in the movie. :yuck: |
| draco111901-08-07, 02:03 AM | How about Holly Hunter as Cassandra? And Verne Troyer as the evil halfling whose name I can't remember. And who qould play Giogi and Olive? |
| MerrikCale01-08-07, 01:04 PM | -You want to get away from sexual innuendo, yet you mention 'blonde' and 'hardcore' in the same sentence... Not to mention Michael Jackson |
| GothicDan01-08-07, 01:29 PM | Okay, just decided Finder Wyvernspur will NOT take his shirt off in the movie. It's a sad society when a male displaying his upper body is immediately reviled by other males. That's not even being 'straight'... That's just being weird. ;) Remember, millions of years ago.. None of us had clothes! Oh no! ;) |
| Seans01-08-07, 03:07 PM | How about Donald Trump as Dritzz and Rosie Odonald(sp?) as one of the Matron mothers!!! ;) |
| GothicDan01-08-07, 03:08 PM | That's great! Let's do that! |
| Wellin_Adipocere01-08-07, 04:59 PM | I could definetly see Rosie as one of the Pasha's; i mean she already must own the robes. How about Ed Norton for Cadderly Bonaduce? |
| Khaelieth01-08-07, 05:37 PM | I'd love a film about Volo, with narrations. I'd also like a film about Halaster Blackcloak and his adventures in Undermountain. Jezz the Lame would be fun. But Mike Myers as Drizz't... Oooooh... |
| Lord Karsus01-08-07, 07:10 PM | How about Donald Trump as Dritzz and Rosie Odonald(sp?) as one of the Matron mothers!!! ;) -How about Rosie O'Donald playing Aumvor the Undying instead? That's a better role for her. Actually, Oprah is a better Aumvor- both are incredibly powerful, and won't go away... |
| Seans01-08-07, 07:18 PM | -How about Rosie O'Donald playing Aumvor the Undying instead? That's a better role for her. Actually, Oprah is a better Aumvor- both are incredibly powerful, and won't go away... :heehee That is a great Idea !!!!!! |
| MarkusTay6301-09-07, 02:11 PM | How about Donald Trump as Dritzz <snip>Actually, I see him more as himself; he could be a new super bad guy, "The Donald!". There he is, doing what he does best (taking over the world), when a group of harpers and chosen show up to stop his evil plan. He points his finger at Elminister and utters the words of power "Your FIRED!". Poor old El gets sucked into a blackhole that leads to an unemployment line in HELL! El: "Oh no... not again..." How about Hilary Duff as Alias? She's a bit short, but I'd love to see her in that armor. We could get that Olsen twin and Nicole Richie to play a couple of mindless zombies. Once again, no makeup neccessary. |

| Seans01-09-07, 02:56 PM | How about Forgotten Realms the sitcom? Dritzz walks into his room after a long day at the office and he forced to cook dinner for his wife as she whips him in the back over and over again, and all along Dritzz maintians a slap-stick commedy and sarcastic replies that keep the people watching laughing week in and week out faithfully. |

Mine, of course, would be more of a MORBID sitcom... -Sure. Drizzt, and his Baelnorn roommate, who may or may not be undead, deathless, and/or filled with negative and/or positive energy. -Well, if you are going down the TV route, I demand to be the crazy nextdoor neighbor. I think me and KtM could pull it off... |

| MarkusTay6301-11-07, 08:49 PM | This is sad, I just found out from my other regular forum that they are ALREADY making a Dragonlance movie. According to a friend who did some of the concept art, they are trying to keep the D&D tag as far away from the movie as possible. Strangely, when I go to The Link (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0825245/) I only see "based on the best-selling novel Dragons of Autumn Twilight" (http://www.dragonlance-movie.com/). However, on the 'Official Movie Site' there is an advertisment for the D&D MMORPG at the top of the page and they say the book is based on WotC's fantasy setting. I guess as long as they don't call it a D&D movie... -Sure. Drizzt, and his Baelnorn roommate, who may or may not be undead, deathless, and/or filled with negative and/or positive energy. I could just picture the scene - as the show begins and they show the mandatory scene clips the announcer guy speaks... "Meet the Baelnorn, a lonely single guy with stinky breath and obsessive compulsive disorder, his roomate, Drizzt Do'Urden, who's best friends daughter kicked HIM out for never making a move and being too 'Emo' for her. Can these two bachelors share an apartment without driving each other crazy?" THE ODD FORGOTTEN COUPLE (If you don't get the joke, then you probably are too young to know what an 8-track is) :P |
| Lord Karsus01-11-07, 11:22 PM | you're a shoe in -Woo hoo! |
| Victor_Ograygor01-17-07, 07:18 AM | I think that Elminster and kelben black staff would be in it, maybe a movie about the times of trouble -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Many Forgotten realms fans on the net have asked themselves whey there isn’t a Role Playing Forum on the net. Whey isn’t there a place were you can role play with people all around the world, and discus thing concerning Forgotten Realms? Now such a place exist. | Ranger REG01-17-07, 10:32 PM | -Wait a minute...Orcus is Donald Trump! "You're Fired" is The Last Word! :) If Donald Trump is Orcus, what character will Rosie play? [Please say something disgusting and nasty!] |
| Purple Dragon Knight01-17-07, 11:21 PM | If Donald Trump is Orcus, what character will Rosie play? [Please say something disgusting and nasty!] :devil:Why, Umberlee, a.k.a. The ***** Queen Edit: what is this nonsense? B-I-T-C-H is a censored word on these boards?!?! when did the word describing a female dog become offensive?!?! |
| Lord Karsus01-18-07, 12:02 AM | If Donald Trump is Orcus, what character will Rosie play? [Please say something disgusting and nasty!] -We've already mentioned it (on this thread, actually, I think). Rosie is going to be Aumvor the Undying, the bloated corpse Lich from Champions of Ruin. -And, here's even more factual evidence to prove that Trump should be Orcus. Trump is a horrible businessman, and so many of his investments/ventures go under, and die. But yet, Trump keeps on coming back. Perhaps he is an Undead Demon Prince? Mayhap... Why, Umberlee, a.k.a. The ***** Queen Edit: what is this nonsense? B-I-T-C-H is a censored word on these boards?!?! when did the word describing a female dog become offensive?!?! -Uh-oh. WotC is impediing our ability to use proper Realmslore, as the B-Queen is one of Umberlee's titles. Someone should complain to customer service... |
| draco111901-18-07, 08:19 AM | -Uh-oh. WotC is impediing our ability to use proper Realmslore, as the B-Queen is one of Umberlee's titles. Someone should complain to customer service... We can still call each other dumbass, though, thanks to Unhinged... :P And remember, kiddies: Umberlee was known as the B-Queen before WotC bought out TSR. |
| MarkusTay6301-18-07, 08:57 AM | Actually, the fact that I can't say p-i-s-s-e-d off gets me pist off! You can say HELL all you want, but heaven forbid you need to urinate! Whats that all about? And besides, in the British Islands that expression means drunk, not angry, so maybe WotC are against underage drinking? (Underage meaning anyone who still plays games, regardless of actual age) Back on Topic - How about Julia Roberts for Queen Amluirel? She's mature yet still hot, has the right hair color, has got a great set of... acting skills, and she has a certain 'Elfen' quality bout her. Of course, then we'd need Richard Gere to play Zoar for the flashback scenes... |
| Lord Karsus01-18-07, 05:52 PM | We can still call each other dumbass, though, thanks to Unhinged... :P -Dumbass, dumbass, dumbass...:) And remember, kiddies: Umberlee was known as the B-Queen before WotC bought out TSR.[/QUOTE[ -And, oddly enough, WotC is less a.n.a.l (Can't use that word either, though it' s a proper medical term...) than TSR, concerning subject matter such as violence, sexuality and the like in D&D. Hell, in Shadowbred, one of the main female antagonists had an orgasm...Just thought I'd bring that up. (-Heh, how punny, "bring that up". Never mind...) |
| GothicDan01-18-07, 05:59 PM | I find Julia Roberts incredibly average! |
| Purple Dragon Knight01-18-07, 07:19 PM | I find Julia Roberts incredibly average! Then you must be either: 1) a hot mama yourself; or 2) married to a very, very hot mama; or 3) you're a fool in need of some major pitying! |

| Wellin_Adipocere01-18-07, 08:15 PM | I'm not gay, not that there is anything wrong with that. I feel that Julia Roberts is fairly average as well. Now if we're talking about gorgeous redheads than how about Julianne Moore? |
| Dark Wizard01-18-07, 10:11 PM | Back on Topic - How about Julia Roberts for Queen Amluirel? She's mature yet still hot, has the right hair color, has got a great set of... acting skills, and she has a certain 'Elfen' quality bout her. Of course, then we'd need Richard Gere to play Zoar for the flashback scenes... Maybe 20 years ago... no not even then. Some faces are elvish, but Roberts isn't one of them, especially not as a paragon example. If one even tries to adhere to the feel of the role during casting, it becomes very difficult to cast non-human characters. How many actresses are out there in their late twenties to late thirties who can not only act and possess that regal queenly air about them (something I believe is as close to Charisma in the real world as we can get)? Then you must be either: 1) a hot mama yourself; or 2) married to a very, very hot mama; or 3) you're a fool in need of some major pitying! I'm none of those, nor am I gay. However, I also find her extremely plain. I don't find her movie roles and acting skills all that meaningful either. I suppose that could be a fault of my geekiness, I often come away from genre pieces with something positive, even if they were B-movie quality. |
| Purple Dragon Knight01-18-07, 11:24 PM | Gothic: I've been assuming you are a lady all along, despite the misleading 'Dan' suffix... so when I said 'married to a hot mama', then I was of course aware of your same-sex desires! If I am utterly wrong and misread your gender, then please accept my most sincere apologies! Wellin_Adipocere: well I guess I like my ladies plain then! Bring on the plain Janes to Purple "D" then! I'm starting to have severe fantasies here: if you guys think Julia is plain, then I wonder what the cute ones you regularly see look like! :plotting:  |
| Lord Karsus01-18-07, 11:32 PM | I'm starting to have severe fantasies here: if you guys think Julia is plain, then I wonder what the cute ones you regularly see look like! :plotting:  -She really is plain. Personally, there aren't too many Hollywood celebrities are are looking that good these days. The undead anorexic look is in, and the majority of us don't really like that one...It's time for some new faces, methinks. |
| MarkusTay6301-18-07, 11:40 PM | I'm gay. But that has nothing to do with the fact that her face is utterly normal!Figured that out my second day here. :P Thats why I threw in Richard Gere, just for you. :D And if you don't think Julia can do 'Elfen' then you haven't seen here in the movie Pan. She made the cutest little Tinker Bell... no offense Dan ;) Maybe they should just do a generic Harper story, a brand new one just for the movie. This way, no one will be able to complain how it didn't stay 'true' to the book. Or maybe they should just sell the rights to do a porno... I say Ron Jeremy for Bruenor! |
| Dark Wizard01-18-07, 11:44 PM | And if you don't think Julia can do 'Elfen' then you haven't seen here in the movie Pan. She made the cutest little Tinker Bell... no offense Dan ;) Do you mean Hook? |
| Lord Karsus01-18-07, 11:52 PM | Or maybe they should just sell the rights to do a porno... -Um...Um...Cormyrian Farmer with Pitchfork #2 should have a leading role in that one. He'd also need to meet all of the Seven Sisters... |
| MarkusTay6301-19-07, 01:14 AM | Do you mean Hook?Yup, corrected, thanx (didn't really like the movie, but I remember Julia was cute) @LK - Would that be the special 'battery operated' pitchfork? You wouldn't want to fork the seven sisters, WOULD YOU? |
| draco111901-19-07, 03:50 AM | -She really is plain. Personally, there aren't too many Hollywood celebrities are are looking that good these days. The undead anorexic look is in, and the majority of us don't really like that one...It's time for some new faces, methinks. Jessica Biel, Scarlett Johansson, Keira Knightly (though according to this week's tabloids she's getting there!), Jessica Alba (ditto), Angelina Jolie (also fits Dark Wizard's "Queenly air")... |
| MarkusTay6301-19-07, 04:32 PM | Angelina Jolie... Hmmmm.... I could picture her as Queen Amluirel. She did a bang-up job as Alexander's mom in that movie (even though she was WAY too young for the part). She has a certain 'Elfen look' to her face, yet she can do both 'dignified' and 'hot' (which describes Amluirel). Then who for the Zoar flashbacks? I was just kidding about Richard Gere, but in retrospect he wouldn't exactly be a bad choice. He would have to be tall, with a muscular build (but not overly so). Kevin Costner might work, he has the look, but if you put him in it then it will definately flop. Hmmmmmm... |
| Lord Karsus01-19-07, 06:18 PM | Then who for the Zoar flashbacks? -I could play two roles... @LK - Would that be the special 'battery operated' pitchfork? You wouldn't want to fork the seven sisters, WOULD YOU? -I do what's in the script. -Now, who should play the Seven Sisters? |
| MarkusTay6301-19-07, 10:10 PM | You know, I think there actually was a porn movie called The Seven Sisters. How about Brandi (Moesha) for the Dark Elf sister? Then we could have other pop stars playing the other parts - Brittany Spears, Christina Aquilara, Lindsey Lohan, Mariah carey, Avril Lavigne, and Jessica Simpson They could all get together at the end and do a number called "Mystra's Bimbos" For costumes - either cheerleader or Japanese School girl uniforms Wow.... I really need to get out more..... |
| Lord Karsus01-19-07, 11:34 PM | You know, I think there actually was a porn movie called The Seven Sisters. -Don't know. I'll keep my eye out, though. ;) Then we could have other pop stars playing the other parts - Brittany Spears, Christina Aquilara, Lindsey Lohan, Mariah carey, Avril Lavigne, and Jessica Simpson -Sylűne is a ghost, but none of the other Seven Sisters are undead. Of that list, the only ones who are good looking are Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson. Truthfully though, I don't remember that Mariah Carey looks like. The other three...:yuck:. Their best days are certainly behind them... Wow.... I really need to get out more..... -Yes, yes you do! :) |
| Lemernis01-20-07, 01:25 PM | Too much for me to read through here, coming to this late... But what I would most like to see: Region: mostly the southern Sword Coast region featured in the Baldur's Gate computer game series: Baldur's Gate, Beregost, Candlekeep, and including locations a little farther north such as the Fields of the Dead and Boareskyr Bridge. Perhaps have the subplot take the story to a southern location as well, such as perhaps Athkatla, or perhaps Calimport, just to add a more exotic location. Story: set the stage for the Bhaalspawn Wars featured in the Baldur's Gate game series, ending in the Time of Troubles with the death fo Bhaal. There would of course be foreshadowings of the Bhaalspawn epic to come. The story introduces Gorion, Elminster, the Harpers, Cyric, Reiltar Anchev, the BG game's protagonist's mother, et al. This could prominently feature the story of Cyric who began as a mortal adventurer. If so, it features many great locations: Zhentil Keep, Chult, Waterdeep, Shadowdale, Moonshaes, etc. And then of course introduce the story also in CRPG form--BG III! :D This could follow George Lucas' Star Wars approach except here it can all be presented chronologically (rather than jumping around in time and with prequels). If the move was a success, the Bhaalspawn Wars would be filmed next (but with perhaps with a better central hero than 'Abdel Adrian'). And the final installment in the epic would be an apocalyptic war between the followers of Bane and Cyric that has the potential to ignite in the current Forgotten Realms. Perhaps a child of the the BG game series' protagonist could be the hero in this one? Anyway, this would bring the epic full circle with Cyric. |
| draco111901-22-07, 04:25 AM | You know, I think there actually was a porn movie called The Seven Sisters. How about Brandi (Moesha) for the Dark Elf sister? How about Cristina Milian, instead? And I've been trying to avoid asking this question for days and just had to give in: Who's going to play "Blackstaff?" :D |
| MarkusTay6301-22-07, 02:42 PM | @draco1119 - I refuse to answer that on the grounds it may intimidate me. :P Too much for me to read through here, coming to this late... But what I would most like to see: Story: set the stage for the Bhaalspawn Wars...Ballspawn? I though we were moving past the porno version... :D |
| Lord Karsus01-22-07, 07:14 PM | Ballspawn? I though we were moving past the porno version... :D :rimshot: |
| The_Shaman01-25-07, 06:53 PM | Hmm, we should save this for the post-movie parody. Kinda like Starballz. Which reminds me, I should find the movie and watch it, finally. Er, I think it'd be fun to have a Symbul and Elminster fight scene; they can make up afterwards. If we should have a soppy pseudo-love story, I want the Sage. IMO he's the top-notch player in the Realms. |
| Spec_Specter02-23-07, 03:09 PM | an Elminster movie would be great, for multable reason not only is he already probually the most iconic chricter in the Reams, but it would also be a great way of showing people that the Realms isn't just Drizzt... |
| MarkusTay6302-23-07, 03:41 PM | And another Undead thread raises its gory locks. |
| Lord Karsus02-23-07, 11:22 PM | -Indeed. Do you have enough power to fight it off yourself, or would you like some assistance? |
| MarkusTay6302-24-07, 02:33 AM | I'm fairly sure I can just turn it, its a pretty low-level thread. It only looks scarey because of all those pages, like a level 20 Expert. :D |
| ElberethSilverleaf02-24-07, 04:26 AM | Queen Amlaruil = Cher Eternally unaging, slightly otherworldly. |
| GothicDan02-24-07, 09:38 AM | Queen Amlaruil has reddish gold hair... |
| ElberethSilverleaf02-24-07, 12:38 PM | Wigs Dan wigs... |
| Lord Karsus02-24-07, 05:55 PM | Queen Amlaruil has reddish gold hair... -Depends. Rich Baker said she had Black hair at the time of the Crusade, and Elaine said she had blue hair at the time of Radiant Dragon. When that was brought up to Elaine, she mentioned that if Human women have to dye their hair every so often, imagine how many times Elven women are going to do just that, with a nearly unlimited lifespan. :) |
| MarkusTay6302-24-07, 06:37 PM | Have you ever seen Cher in concert? I had the misfortune to do so a couple years back. She changes costume AND hair in-between EVERY song. Probably the most BORING show I've ever been to, and I got the impression that she is actually near-bald! Some of her wigs had VERY short hair, so unless her real hair was practically non-existant I don't know how she could have pulled that off. I have a NEW candidate - the young actress (Hayden Panettiere) that plays the Cheerleader in the series Heroes for the part of Cati-Brie. She's just so cute and spunky..... :D |
| Dark Wizard02-24-07, 06:59 PM | Save Cattie-Brie, save the Realms. |
| Lord Karsus02-24-07, 07:23 PM | Have you ever seen Cher in concert? I had the misfortune to do so a couple years back. :: Points and laughs :: :P |
| MarkusTay6302-24-07, 07:26 PM | Screw you, I only went because Cyndi Lauper was opening for her, and she's terrific! :P Save Cattie-Brie, save the Realms. |
| Lord Karsus02-24-07, 07:44 PM | Screw you, I only went because Cyndi Lauper was opening for her, and she's terrific! :P -Eh, not really my kind of music...I'm familiar with the name, but not really the face, or the music. -While we're talking about music, I mght as well bring this up, so it's somewhat on topic: Do you think it would be corny if I used a quote from Jymi Hen'dryx in Elves of Faerűn? :D |
| MarkusTay6302-24-07, 07:49 PM | Depends on which one. Led Zeppelin usually has the best fantasy lyrics, though. :D "In the darkest depths of Mordor, I.. met a girl so fair.... But GOLLUM, the EVIL one.. snuck up and crept away with herr, herrr, yeah..." |

But GOLLUM.. snuck up and crept away with herr, herrr, yeah..." -Ramble On...Ramble on...:D Depends on which one. -For Avariel, I was thinking of taking this quote from "Jymi Hen'dryx, a young Moon Elf in love with an Avariel Elf: Angel came down From heaven yesterday, Stayed with me just long enough To rescue me.... And she told me a story yesterday; About the sweet love Between the moon and the deep blue sea. Then she spread her wings high over me. She said,’I’ll come back again to see you tomorrow.... And I said fly on, my sweet angel. Fly on through the sky. Fly on, my sweet angel. Tomorrow I’m gonna be by your side.... Sure enough, This woman came home to me. Silver wings silhouetted against a child’s sunrise.... And my angel, She said unto me, ’today is the day for you to rise.’ Take my hand, you’re gonna be my mind, And she took me high over yonder..... And I said fly on, my sweet angel. Fly on through the sky. Fly on, my sweet angel. Tomorrow I’m gonna be by your side.... |
| MarkusTay6302-24-07, 08:29 PM | Oh, that is SO excellent! Use it, use it! :D Never was a big Hendrix fan before, although I do prefer HIS redition of The Star Spangled Banner. I thought you were going to use Purple Haze for your Elven Herbalist. ;) |
| Lord Karsus02-24-07, 11:22 PM | Never was a big Hendrix fan before, although I do prefer HIS redition of The Star Spangled Banner. -Hendrix = One of the best things to ever happen to music. Period. I thought you were going to use Purple Haze for your Elven Herbalist. ;) -Heh. |

| MarkusTay6302-25-07, 08:28 AM | When Cati-Brie was first introduced, she was only 14, so the Cheerleader girl would work if we did the Crystal Shard. She is currently 39, pushing 40, so now we would need to find some old bag to play her. :D |
| Purple Dragon Knight02-25-07, 10:49 AM | She is currently 39, pushing 40, so now we would need to find some old bag to play her. :DWow! 39 or 40 year olds are 'old bags?' I double dare you to stand in front of Terry Hatcher or Pamela Anderson and say that to their face! :D |
| Khaelieth02-25-07, 01:54 PM | I just saw parts of the D&D movie. I'm sincerely hoping they NEVER make a FR film. |
| MarkusTay6302-25-07, 03:12 PM | Wow! 39 or 40 year olds are 'old bags?' I double dare you to stand in front of Terry Hatcher or Pamela Anderson and say that to their face! :DYou're right, my bad. :P I'd still nail Goldie Hawn and I think she's pushing sixty. ;) I just saw parts of the D&D movie. I'm sincerely hoping they NEVER make a FR film.Agreed. |

| Calmar02-25-07, 04:09 PM | No Drizzt, no Elminster, no other novel guys in major roles. "An unlikely duo of four young heroes is drawn into a quest to save the Lost Kingdoms of Fayrune from a beholder (trying to disintegrate the core of the world...)" |
| Lord Karsus02-26-07, 12:20 AM | "An unlikely duo of four young heroes is drawn into a quest to save the Lost Kingdoms of Fayrune from a beholder (trying to disintegrate the core of the world...)" -An unlikely duo of four heroes? :P |

| Lord Karsus02-26-07, 12:17 PM | Well, he did say it was unlikely! :D  -I needed that. Thanks! :) |
| Calmar02-27-07, 11:52 AM | "The two valorous four of Waterdeep - A fantastic journey to the bottom of the world" coming June 2008 That will be a success! :D |
| Bolithio02-27-07, 03:49 PM | I would like to see: "The Manshoon Wars" |
| MarkusTay6302-27-07, 07:56 PM | Ugh! Just pop the Clone wars into the VCR and pretend. :rolleye2: Or better yet, start a thread entitled "Who is the REAL Karsus?" and watch the sparks fly. ;) Personally, I would prefer something along the lines of Azure bounds. No RSE, normal level heroes, and lots of great scenes for the movie. Plus, whoever they get to wear that Alias outfit should be awesome. Ricky Martin for Finder Wyvernspur? :P |
| Lord Karsus02-27-07, 10:46 PM | Or better yet, start a thread entitled "Who is the REAL Karsus?" and watch the sparks fly. ;) -Obviously, me and KtM are the real Karsus. Duh...:P Ricky Martin for Finder Wyvernspur? :P -Finder Wyvernspur is certainly livin' la vida loca... |
| bitter thorn02-28-07, 03:03 AM | You can have a "dou of four"? I did not know that. Nit picking aside, I rather like the notion of stories about adventuring parties with cameos by the iconic types but with out said iconic types playing central roles. No Drizzt, no Elminster, no other novel guys in major roles. "An unlikely duo of four young heroes is drawn into a quest to save the Lost Kingdoms of Fayrune from a beholder (trying to disintegrate the core of the world...)" |
| MarkusTay6302-28-07, 04:18 AM | I'd much rather it star a quartet of two. :P |
| Calmar02-28-07, 08:59 AM | Seriously, the stories of the IwD I or II pc games would make great movie plots, in my opinion. Only the beginning would need some alteration, for to bring the characters together, rather than having them being some group for unknown reasons. :) |
| MarkusTay6302-28-07, 10:52 PM | I have an incredibly original idea, they could meet in a tavern! |
| draco111903-01-07, 06:44 AM | Ricky Martin for Finder Wyvernspur? :P Nope. Giogi. Billy Joel as Finder, maybe? |
| MarkusTay6303-01-07, 09:14 AM | Whats a Giogi? And Billy's too old and fat. Maybe Steven Tyler... he's old now too but at least he's thin, I just don't picture there being too many fat bards for some reason. |
| Lord Karsus03-01-07, 11:53 PM | Whats a Giogi? -Giogi is a Wyvenspur, of the current generation. He was one of two (brother?) who fought for control of the Wyvernspur artifact. I don't recall if he was the 'good' one or not. I think he was... |

In the second book of the trilogy, he fights Flattery (the original clone of Finder) for control of the Wyvern's Spur, the artifact that gives the family its name and power. |
| Ranger REG03-02-07, 01:50 AM | I have an incredibly original idea, they could meet in a tavern! I was hoping for a brothel. *chicka-chicka-bow-wow* :smirk: |

In the second book of the trilogy, he fights Flattery (the original clone of Finder) for control of the Wyvern's Spur, the artifact that gives the family its name and power.Okay, its all coming back to me. I read that WAY back, but I remember I enjoyed it. Time to read it again I suppose, nothing like a good series that doesn't change the world (except for that cute little 'road' through cormanthor). ;) |
| Ranger REG03-02-07, 06:50 PM | But if you have any females in your group, that would make them a ... working girl. Or a client. ;) |
| sayamachiharu03-02-07, 11:13 PM | Why not use state of the art graphics engine like the one they used in Advent Children. |
| Ranger REG03-03-07, 01:50 AM | Why not use state of the art graphics engine like the one they used in Advent Children. Because this film will be produced, written, and directed by the Goth. :evillaugh |

| Lord Karsus03-03-07, 11:30 PM | And that whole "killing a god" thing... -Eh, that's common nowadays, anyway. What, in the past 25 years or so in Realmstime, there have been what nine or so deicides? Torm, Ibrandul, Bane, Moander, Bhaal, Liera, Myrkul, Vhaeraun and Selvetarm. Have I forgotten anyone? |
| draco111903-04-07, 04:17 AM | Mystra, though she was killed by another god. Umm... can't think of any others. |
| Xavier_of_Cormyr03-04-07, 03:58 PM | What about Ray Park for Drizzt? Darth Maul, Headless Horseman (Sleepy Hallow), Toad (X-Men) and other martial arts roles... and he's short 5'6 I think. But anyway.. what LOCATIONS would everyone like to see? Personally, I'd love to see the following: - Evermeet: look how cool Rivendel looked in LotR! - Thay: it would just be cool to see a bunch of Red Wizards walking around a evil, magical city - Forest of Wyrms: just think of the artwork from the FRCS - Evereska: for the same reasons as Evermeet - Waterdeep: just because |

Silverymoon could replace it, though it would be a pale comparison. You've got to have Waterdeep, because it's Waterdeep. Another cool setting would be Chult, I think |
| MarkusTay6303-04-07, 09:26 PM | Eeeewwww... I HATE Chult. I'm making it 'go-away' on the latest version of my campaign map. And that whole "killing a god" thing...In fact, it's now a pre-requisite to be in the 'In-crowd' of WotC writers. When all the authors are sitting around the table discussing this month's RSE, they make fun of and belittle the guys that haven't killed any gods. AND they won't let them play in ANY Reindeer games...... :P |
| Lord Karsus03-04-07, 11:05 PM | AND they won't let them play in ANY Reindeer games...... :P -I wrote an entire song about something like that one one of these threads. It's a shame I don't remember which one... |

| draco111903-05-07, 04:15 AM | In fact, it's now a pre-requisite to be in the 'In-crowd' of WotC writers. When all the authors are sitting around the table discussing this month's RSE, they make fun of and belittle the guys that haven't killed any gods. So the guy who sells more FR novels in a month than the rest of them (put together!) sell in a year gets made fun of for not killing a god yet. Or was there a deicide in WotSQ that I missed? And Ed, the guy who's had 30+ years to kill off deities, gets made fun of because he only killed 1 (Tyche), and replaced her with 5 more (Tymora and Beshaba, Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul). :thinks: |

| Isildrae Kyuss03-08-07, 11:47 AM | First off I read the first page of this thread then skipped to the last as I'm at work and don't have time to sift through various poor choices of actors...so this suggestion may well have already been made however...that being said - surely it must be one of the Baldur's Gate or to a lesser extent Neverwinter Nights games. Not only does everyone that knows FR will know the stories but so will millions of gamers that never got into FR as a PnP RPG. It would be the most accessable story BG1. Oh and Keira Knightly? you lot are a mental...silly little english size zero wench that can't act for toffee...that's surely being polite. |
| Lord Karsus03-08-07, 07:49 PM | Oh and Keira Knightly? you lot are a mental...silly little english size zero wench that can't act for toffee...that's surely being polite. -Does the ability to act really matter, if you know what I'm talking about? -And hey, she was in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, she she can't be too bad of an actor! :rimshot: |
| draco111903-09-07, 03:56 AM | -And hey, she was in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, she she can't be too bad of an actor! :rimshot: So was Natalie Portman, who is equally hot... How about Anna Paquin? She's an Oscar winner with experience in sci-fi films. And she's also supremely hawt! |
| MarkusTay6303-09-07, 04:10 AM | Not only does everyone that knows FR will know the stories but so will millions of gamers that never got into FR as a PnP RPG. It would be the most accessable story BG1.I have NEVER EVER played a single D&D computer game, and know ZILCH about them. Nor do I wish to learn... If I want eye-candy I go in for warcraft, I don't like mixing my P&P with my keyboard. That being said, how about that girl they just booted off Idol tonight? I have NO clue if she can act, but she looks good nakit! |
| Isildrae Kyuss03-09-07, 05:05 AM | Shame - the games are particularly good especially some of the online RPG servers in NWN. With Natalie Portman however - I have to agree...let me have her...i mean let's have her...all of us...in the film...acting... you know what i mean... |
| draco111903-09-07, 07:35 AM | That being said, how about that girl they just booted off Idol tonight? I have NO clue if she can act, but she looks good nakit! How do you know? Are there pics on the intrawebz or something? That why she got booted? |
| MarkusTay6303-10-07, 09:25 AM | Geez, you live in a box or something? Her name, Antonella Barba, has been the #1 hit on all the search engines for two weeks! I still want to see that crazy Japanese Schoolgirl (Chiaki Kuriyama) from Kill Bill play a female Drow warrior.... ANY Drow female will work for me. |
| draco111903-10-07, 11:40 PM | Geez, you live in a box or something? Nope. Just don't watch tv. At all. Her name, Antonella Barba, has been the #1 hit on all the search engines for two weeks! And after seeing those pics, I will be carrying a golf ball and a length of garden hose, in case I should meet her... :smirk: I still want to see that crazy Chinese Schoolgirl (Chiaki Kuriyama) from Kill Bill play a female Drow warrior.... ANY Drow female will work for me. Agreed. |
| Ranger REG03-11-07, 01:03 AM | I still want to see that crazy Chinese Schoolgirl (Chiaki Kuriyama) A Chinese named Kuriyama??? :uh-huh: |
| MarkusTay6303-11-07, 01:29 AM | Whatever.... Do you EVER have anything constructive to add? |
| Ranger REG03-11-07, 01:49 AM | Whatever.... Do you EVER have anything constructive to add? Constructive? Seriously? With adding to the cast that includes Antonella Barba and Natalie Portman? :uh-huh: Just to confirm, GothicDan is still making the movie, right? :evillaugh |
| GothicDan03-11-07, 03:30 AM | That depends on whether or not I can revolutionize muon detection first. |
| draco111903-11-07, 06:46 PM | Constructive? Seriously? With adding to the cast that includes Antonella Barba and Natalie Portman? :uh-huh: Antonella Barba is slated to play Tavern Wench #1 and Wife of Cormyrian Farmer with Pitchfork #2. And don't knock Natalie. |
| Ranger REG03-11-07, 10:30 PM | And don't knock Natalie. ;) ;) *nudge nudge* |
| ElberethSilverleaf03-11-07, 11:00 PM | I think Monica Bellucci would fit in anywhere in the film that requires a beautiful charismatic sorceress type. She's a great actress who has been in the Matrix series, Passion of the Christ, Bram Stokers Dracula, and Brothers Grimm. She speaks English, Persian, Italian and French fluently. Brains and beauty all rolled into one bombshell. I especially like her reply to a documentary on the Passion the interviewer assumed she was a Christian, she replies "I am an Agnostic, even though I respect and am interested in all religions. If there's something I believe in, it's a mysterious energy; the one that fills the oceans during tides, the one that unites nature and beings." |
| Lord Karsus03-12-07, 12:15 AM | Antonella Barba is slated to play Tavern Wench #1 and Wife of Cormyrian Farmer with Pitchfork #2. -Don't know who that is...Let's see...Eh. -Sure, why not? |
| Lord Karsus03-29-07, 08:04 PM | -I saw this ad on the Subway a couple of days ago, and main person in the ad (someone named Jonathan Rhys Meyers, apparently) screamed out to me "Sememmon". This Website has some pictures (http://www.thependragon.co.uk/The%20Tudors.htm). The banner, I think, is most close to the ad I saw. |

Are you talking about the soccer coach in Bring it Like Beckham or the manipulative weasel in Gormenghast? :smirk: He would have been my first choice as Anakin Skywalker (if we dyed his hair blonde and give him extension). |
| Lord Karsus03-30-07, 10:00 AM | Are you talking about the soccer coach in Bring it Like Beckham or the manipulative weasel in Gormenghast? :smirk: He would have been my first choice as Anakin Skywalker (if we dyed his hair blonde and give him extension). -Don't know, I never saw either one of those movies. But, in retrospect, he does look like he would have been a good Anakin Skywalker. |
| Ranger REG03-30-07, 09:27 PM | -Don't know, I never saw either one of those movies. You should watch Gormenghast. When you feel like you want to wring his neck, then you know he's that good a villain. |
| Old Sage03-30-07, 10:08 PM | That depends on whether or not I can revolutionize muon detection first.Denisov would seem to have some intriguing thoughts on the subject. Though, most have been disproven now, as I recall. |
| Lord Karsus03-30-07, 11:12 PM | You should watch Gormenghast. When you feel like you want to wring his neck, then you know he's that good a villain. -Heh. That is a good way to measure the effectiveness of a villain, when you think about it. ;) -With Sememmon's role filled, we need someone to play Fzoul. If he grew a thick moustache, maybe Fabio? ;) |
| draco111903-31-07, 04:00 AM | -With Sememmon's role filled, we need someone to play Fzoul. If he grew a thick moustache, maybe Fabio? ;) If they had a "middle finger" smilie, I'd use that, but for now, you're just getting the bird: :chicken: How about Kevin Sorbo? :P |

| Dark Wizard03-31-07, 05:55 PM | -I guess Kevin Sorbo works. Now, for Manshoon...Has it even been revealed what he looks like under the "mask"? He didn't always have a mask. From what I recall, the 2e FRCS had a portrait of him. I don't remember the image too well, but he reminds me of an older version of the Purple Dragon Knight picture from the 3e FRCS. No idea if that jives with textual descriptions of him. |
| Lord Karsus03-31-07, 05:59 PM | And don't knock Natalie. ;) ;) *nudge nudge* -Ah, I just got that. Good stuff... He didn't always have a mask. From what I recall, the 2e FRCS had a portrait of him. | Wvrenwulf12-31-07, 07:05 PM | CGI for Drizzt. Artemis Entriri can be played by Ray Park (Darth Maul). Having someone with elfy ears try to look drow and play the iconic Drizzt would ruin most mental images of him. My responce to who would play Drizzt and who would play Artemis in a movie. I'd rather just see a classic meet at the Inn and go on a quest Movie than one based on the characters of books, though. And some races be CGI or partial CGI. And nothing dumb like the D&D Movies that were made. They were awful(the second one was better, but the coreography was horrid), and in no way helped D&D look like a cool game to people who haven't played. But, I'd cut back on races that were in the LOTR movies and have more of the other iconic races to D&D. Less known to movie stuff like Gnolls, Ogres, drow, gnomes, and kobolds. And try to include tieflings and dragonborn in some compasity. Get people interested in D&D with a great adventure movie. Feature 5 or 6 heroes with D&D classes. Mix 'em up. Give people a little of everything. In the Realms, Cormanthyr, Amn, The MoonSea, Luiren, lots of a great Realms environments for your story. Ofcourse, a dragon, beholder, or other high profile villian should be present. |
| Kenzuki12-31-07, 09:35 PM | This is the REAL Artemis Entreri. http://www.bobafettfanclub.com/e2/images/casting-temuera-morrison-2.jpg Compare to Lockwood's version. http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/2/2d/250px-Servant_det01.jpg Sounds like a winner to me, plus Jango was cool. |
| MarkusTay6312-31-07, 10:28 PM | So you're saying Artemis was Jango Fett in another life? No wonder RAS killed Chewy.... :nonono: |
| Purple Dragon Knight01-01-08, 04:13 AM | killed Chewy? wow I'm glad I'm clueless about the post Episode VI SW Lore... |
| Suin Bahhar01-01-08, 11:38 AM | I'd like a Forgotten Realms animated movie with an indepth vision of the schemes within the Zentharim. Manshoon vs Fzoul flick with some Khelben meddling and a moonstar wizard/rogue investigator. |
| Lord Karsus01-01-08, 11:45 AM | killed Chewy? wow I'm glad I'm clueless about the post Episode VI SW Lore... -Yeah, Chewbacca is dead. Whaddya gonna do? Stuff happens. -MT, aren't you happy I resurrected this thread? :D :angelhide |
| MarkusTay6301-01-08, 11:51 AM | As you well know, my mind flies along at 1000 miles an hour, unable to stop. What you guys see as a recent thread, I barely remember as something that happened in prehistoric times. Usually I'm onto the next thought before I even complete my sentence. :P EDIT: Since we are talking about this again, and I just finished Elminster: The Making of a Mage, I think that novel would make a good movie, and not upset any Realmslore because of it's set in an earlier time. |

What you guys see as a recent thread, I barely remember as something that happened in prehistoric times. Usually I'm onto the next thought before I even complete my sentence. :P -It is from prehistoric times. This is from like, a year ago. Prehistoric. |
| MarkusTay6301-01-08, 11:56 AM | So a year ago is prehistoric to you as well? Then you're in a lot of trouble when you get older, when the years just fly by every time you blink. ;) |
| Lord Karsus01-01-08, 11:58 AM | -I know, believe me. I'm graduating in a few months, and here it still feels like I just got out of high school. |
| Ranger REG01-01-08, 03:40 PM | I'd like a Forgotten Realms animated movie... Like that Dragonlance animated movie? :uh-huh: *groans* |
| Another Gnome01-01-08, 03:53 PM | This is the REAL Artemis Entreri. Temuera Morrison as Entreri? That's an interesting take, but I still think Russell Crowe the way he looked in Gladiator (http://www.lightalongthejourney.com/Images/maximus.jpg) would be spot-on... |
| Lord Karsus01-01-08, 04:20 PM | Like that Dragonlance animated movie? :uh-huh: *groans* -Cartoons are good. CGI animation, no. -The artwork from the Devil's Due adaptation of the Dark Elf trilogy was very nice. |
| Kenzuki01-01-08, 04:31 PM | So you're saying Drizzt was Jango Fett in another life? No wonder RAS killed Chewy.... :nonono: No mate, I was saying that the guy who played Jango looks alot like the picture of Artemis Entreri from the new cover of Servant of the Shard by Lockwood. |
| MarkusTay6301-01-08, 04:47 PM | Arrrgh... I meant Artemis. *Fixed* |
| Ebrion01-01-08, 05:31 PM | I say Julien Sands( From the movie Warlock), would work as a drow, probably Jarlaxle. |
| Kenzuki01-01-08, 05:34 PM | Arrrgh... I meant Artemis. *Fixed* Fett and Entreri have alot in common you know. Both were warriors for hire and they were considered the best at their craft (Bounty Hunter/Assassin). |
| Suin Bahhar01-01-08, 05:36 PM | I haven't seen a good flashy archmage battle yet. That is what I want to see in a animated movie. And some arcane investigator unravelling archwizards schemes. |
| Dark Wizard01-01-08, 05:55 PM | -Cartoons are good. CGI animation, no. -The artwork from the Devil's Due adaptation of the Dark Elf trilogy was very nice. The Dragonlance animated movie trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHrOfJ8_D0o I must say, I'm disappointed with some of the choices they made in regards to visual style and execution. This would have looked great in the 80s, but by todays animation standards, something just seems missing. |
| Kenzuki01-01-08, 06:17 PM | The animation resembles 90's cartoons like Gargoyles and is fine. It's the lame CGI that is stuck in there that sticks out like a sore thumb! |
| Diffan01-01-08, 07:44 PM | The animation resembles 90's cartoons like Gargoyles and is fine. It's the lame CGI that is stuck in there that sticks out like a sore thumb! *sigh* too true. Though, I know i'll be there to buy it when it hit's the shelves. I did like however, this Drizzt animation and wonder if there'll be more like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5V-fF-2URE |
| MarkusTay6301-01-08, 07:53 PM | As much as like Dreamworks films, I think that type of animation would be even worse. Can you imagine a "Shrekerized" version of El, or Drizzt? I must say, I'm disappointed with some of the choices they made in regards to visual style and execution. This would have looked great in the 80s, but by todays animation standards, something just seems missing.Yeah... it definately has that Pirates of Dark Waters look, which was great back in the day, but not up to today's animation tech. Did we already mention Johnny Depp for Jarlaxle? :D |
| Kenzuki01-01-08, 08:11 PM | Pirates of Dark Water owns many of todays animated features. |
| MarkusTay6301-01-08, 08:14 PM | So did Thundarr the Barbarian, but thats going WAY back. ;) Anything's better then the He-man and She-ra drivel. :yuck: And don't even get me started about Pokémon... next thing you know, some idiots will try to make a card game out of that mess... |
| Lord Karsus01-01-08, 08:35 PM | And don't even get me started about Pokémon... next thing you know, some idiots will try to make a card game out of that mess... -Don't diss PokeMon. |
| Wyre01-01-08, 08:44 PM | I want the role of "drunken bar patron #13". I'm told if I can pull that off I can get parts in the "mob scene" the " clueless by-standered" and maybe the "just got run over by a cart/wagon guy. |
| Lord Karsus01-01-08, 09:09 PM | -You'd have to ask Dan, as he is directing. |
| Kenzuki01-01-08, 09:20 PM | I want to be generic evil cultist number 00092867#. He's the one who Drizzt spares and goes back to tell the big bad evil guy that his plans have failed. |
| GothicDan01-01-08, 10:21 PM | Auditions will be held in the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. |
| MarkusTay6301-01-08, 10:36 PM | I prefer The Big-Bang Bistro. :P -Don't diss PokeMon.I'll make a deal with ya', I'll lay of Pokémon, and you don't dis Harry Potter. ;) Soooo... I guess someone had a thing for Misty... |
| Lord Karsus01-01-08, 10:38 PM | -Come on...When was the last time I mentioned, let alone dissed, Harry Potter!? |
| MarkusTay6301-01-08, 10:55 PM | True... it was a while ago... but it's a rather sensitive subject with me. Soooo... no denying the "Misty Crush", eh? ;) |
| Lord Karsus01-01-08, 11:01 PM | -Oh, what? No. PokeMon was just a kickass game, that's all. It revolutionized handheld videogames. |
| MarkusTay6301-02-08, 12:16 AM | It was a handheld videogame? I thought it was just a cheesy cartoon and a cardgame. I really am getting old. :( |
| Dark Wizard01-02-08, 01:05 AM | Pirates of Dark Water had good animation for its time, still holds up decently today. Gargoyles had great animation, holds up well today. The Dragonlance movie, even if you disregard the poorly integrated CGI, still can't come close to either of those shows judging by animation from the trailer. Of course a movie is more than its visuals, but with outdated looking animation, the movie has something working against it rather than for it. It reflects poorly on the quality of stuff coming out of D&D properties, even if most of them have unrelated production. First the D&D live action movie(s) and now this. Here's hoping at least the story remains intact and is at least portrayed adequately. It was a handheld videogame? I thought it was just a cheesy cartoon and a cardgame. I really am getting old. :( The wonders of cross-platform/venue marketing and promotion. Pokemon probably single-handedly keep Nintendo healthy as a horse in the leaner years before the DS and now the Wii released. Now they're at the top of the market and the Pokemon thing, while a bit less massive franchise, is still going. Soooo... I guess someone had a thing for Misty... Hey... how come you seem so familiar with the show? Soooo... no denying the "Misty Crush", eh? ;) Jump to 00:43. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38oQll6SXNU |
| MarkusTay6301-02-08, 01:19 AM | Wow... that was awful... But to be honest, I actually have that "Jigglypuff Song" play when my computer boots - it's an inside joke between me and my kids. Its so bad, its good. :D And as to why I'm familiar with a cartoon I dislike? I have four boys; does that answer your question? :smirk: |
| Stigger01-02-08, 06:53 AM | PokeMon are crap. Potter FTW. :P :D No, of course I'm not trying to instigate anything here... |
| Lord Karsus01-02-08, 08:20 AM | It was a handheld videogame? I thought it was just a cheesy cartoon and a cardgame.( -Nope. It was a Gameboy game released circa 1997. It was heavily marketed, but didn't "spring out" until the cartoon gained some populatity. -Man, I remember PokeMon before the cartoon, before the card game... Jump to 00:43. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38oQll6SXNU -She wasn't that bad looking. PokeMon are crap. Potter FTW -Stop trying to instigate things. But, Mewtwo could kick Harry Potter's Brittish ass. |
| Stigger01-02-08, 08:31 AM | Only in LK's dreamland... WTF is a mewtwo by the way? Was married 6 years by 1997, so it wasn't exactly my cup of tea at the point... :P |

| Lord Karsus01-02-08, 09:15 AM | Looks like an anorexic rat-thing... -A massivley psychic anorexic rat-thing. |
| Stigger01-02-08, 09:18 AM | Psychic? Right... psychic cats... four letter word, rhymes with tame, starts with L... :P ;) :D |
| MarkusTay6301-02-08, 02:15 PM | -Mewtwo, the most powerful Pokemon.Entei would kick his scrawny butt. :P Ummmm... did I really just say that? Anyhow, I remember buying a slew of games called Gold, Silver, Emerald, Ruby, etc... for my kids. Thats the game, right? The one that has more colors then D&D dragons... |
| Suin Bahhar01-02-08, 02:50 PM | In the world of pokemon mewtwo has superpsychic powers but it can only say Mewtoo. :nonono: That dragonlance thing is awful. It must be stopped! |
| Kenzuki01-02-08, 04:31 PM | Mewtwo never said it's name. It spoke to people psionically. I remember collecting all 150 pokemon on the Blue Version. God that game was fun.... |
| Lord Karsus01-03-08, 01:04 AM | Entei would kick his scrawny butt. :P -Entei is a poser. Moltres could so kick Entrei's hairy ass. In the world of pokemon mewtwo has superpsychic powers but it can only say Mewtoo. :nonono: -Mewtwo speaks via telepathy. |
| Suin Bahhar01-03-08, 05:58 PM | Dont pokemon have a vocabulary limited to their names? |
| Lord Karsus01-03-08, 06:30 PM | Dont pokemon have a vocabulary limited to their names? -Not necessarily. There is precidence where a Pokemon has learned to speak English (Meowth of Team Rocket, Slowking, Mewtwo). Generally speaking, however, they are indeed limited to simply saying their names. |

| Ody_Saraph_of_Karsus01-06-08, 01:37 PM | Ody's view are crap... :P :D I know right...:P I actually like HP, even though I was a little disapointed with the last book |
| MarkusTay6301-06-08, 02:16 PM | Yeah, why did Ron get the hotty, and Harry get the ugly chick? |
| Dark Wizard01-06-08, 03:51 PM | Yeah, why did Ron get the hotty, and Harry get the ugly chick? Maybe because the Harry's girl was Ron's sister? :mymy: |
| MarkusTay6301-06-08, 07:19 PM | So, there were only two girls in the movie/book? Even the movie version of Luna Lovegood put Ginny to shame. Bad casting, I guess... she is supposed to be exceptionally pretty in the novels... at least to Harry. Brits have strange taste. I can't remember any good-looking adult women from the movies either. Unless you count that psycho (she wasn't pretty, but she was attractive in a "slap me around" kind of way). :P |
| Dzwood01-08-08, 07:15 PM | Ryan Reynolds is also incredibly hot. I vote for him for... Things. Yes Dan Yes!!!! Ill watch that movie |
| Dzwood01-09-08, 09:01 AM | I would like to see something a little more 300 like. Ya know with a CG enviroment and mostly human charactersactors with that very sureal feeling to it. I think that would be the best way to capure the feeling of the FR. also any of those guys would be good for the fights and physical stuff. I would also like to see the story revolve around a group of unknown adventures. BTW who ever sugested Johny Depp as Elminster is a freeking genius!!! |
| Khaelieth01-09-08, 11:02 AM | -Entei is a poser. Moltres could so kick Entrei's hairy ass. You have apparently never met Gengar! Genga-geng! *Dissapears with your pokéballs* |
| MarkusTay6301-09-08, 02:17 PM | Sorry, but when it comes to cool monsters (that I can convert and use in D&D), Yu-Gi-Oh! wins over Pokemon hands down - http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y178/MarkusTay/Rabid_Horseman1.jpg Half-centaur, half-Monotaur; it doesn't get much cooler then that. :D Almost all of the YGO creatures are useable in a serious D&D game, but nearly none of the Pokemon ones are... although Gyarados was kinda cool. |
| Lord Karsus01-10-08, 08:15 PM | Almost all of the YGO creatures are useable in a serious D&D game, but nearly none of the Pokemon ones are... although Gyarados was kinda cool. -So, Pokemon aren't serious, but...Cranial Rats are? Or whatever they are called. :P |
| MarkusTay6301-10-08, 09:22 PM | What I said is that most of the YGO monsters are useable, whereas most of the Pokemon aren't. Cranial Rats are in YGO? Don't know them - I never played either one of those awful (card) games, I just know them from the cartoons (I have four boys, remember?). And don't get me started on 'stupid monsters', D&D itself is full of them - Flumph, Umpleby, Intellect Devourer, etc... |
| Lord Karsus01-10-08, 11:19 PM | Cranial Rats are in YGO? Don't know them - I never played either one of those awful (card) games, I just know them from the cartoons ( I have four boys, remember?). -No, I was just pointing out how some D&D monster are absurd, and that many a Pokemon make more sense. You are like the coolest Dad, man. I have two (biological and stepfather), and neither one knows very much about cool stuff like this. My stepfather introduced me to D&D, and P&P RPGs, but other than that. Let's just say he likes to play 1st person shooting video games, and fancies himself a sniper, but sucks. ;) And don't get me started on 'stupid monsters', D&D itself is full of them - Flumph, Umpleby, Intellect Devourer, etc... -Intellect Devourers...Those were the brains with reptilian legs, right? Heheheh... |
| MarkusTay6301-11-08, 12:54 AM | Adventurer 1: "Hey look, it's a walking Brain!" Adventurer 2: "Do you think we could sell 'em to those Illithids we ran from awhile back?" Adventurer 1: "Hey! Fast food that delivers itself!" :D -You are like the coolest Dad, man. I have two (biological and stepfather), and neither one knows very much about cool stuff like this. :embarrass |
| Lord Karsus01-11-08, 01:09 AM | Adventurer 1: "Hey look, it's a walking Brain!" Adventurer 2: "Do you think we could sell 'em to those Illithids we ran from awhile back?" Adventurer 1: "Hey! Fast food that delivers itself!" :D -It is only after the fact that Adventurer 2 realizes that Adventurer 1 was possessed by the Intellect Devourer, and was speaking through him, a la Independence Day... |
| MarkusTay6301-11-08, 12:53 PM | This is getting so far away from the topic, BUT..... I LOVED the 2e Spelljammer lore where the Illithids had a 'Beholder farm', because they just couldn't resist those "big, juicy brains of theirs". :D Meanwhile, the Beholders and Illithids were supposed to 'get along' in Arcane Space - at least better then other races did with them. Thats why that farm was so Top-Secret - if the Beholders ever caught wind of it there would have been all-out war between them. And the Illithids reallly didn't need anymore enemies... See? They could have used THAT for part of the 4e premise, instead of bringing in those silly, six-eyed, giant catfish! Establishing the Beholders and the Illithids as eternal enemies from the Far Realms would have been SO much cooler, and FIT with establlished lore! Why do they feel they need to trounce on old lore, rather then work with it? Does following someone else's work really bother today's designers so much? :( |
| Lord Karsus01-11-08, 08:03 PM | Why do they feel they need to trounce on old lore, rather then work with it? Does following someone else's work really bother today's designers so much? :( -I was actually thinking of asking Richard Baker that very question, in a non ****wad way, though. I was going to ask why they change things that have absolutely no bearing on the game's mechanics, but invariably will get a lot of people angry- such as the color of a Drow's eyes, for instance. |
| MarkusTay6301-11-08, 11:12 PM | Because 4-8 people like it better that way? I mean, that IS what it comes down to, right? On Topic Before this thread gets shut down (and maybe it should be), I think I would like to see Paul Ruebens play Cyric. Think about it, he's perfect! You know, I didn't even realize it was him - I was looking for the name of the gross character from Mystery Men, who also appears in episodes of Pushing Daisies as a similar gross character living in the sewers. I had no idea that was PeeWee Herman!!! I dislike them both so much; I think he is the ideal candidate to play someone we all can't stand. |
| Lord Karsus01-11-08, 11:22 PM | Before this thread gets shut down (and maybe it should be)... -Of course it shouldn't. This thread, going strong for a year! |
| MarkusTay6301-11-08, 11:35 PM | But... it's an UNDEAD thread!!! It was revived through Dark magics... or maybe through one of those 4e 'Animus' thingies... oh hell... I don't know anymore... |

| GoldDragon01-12-08, 04:14 PM | I doubt they'd go the drizzt route. I doubt they'd have drow in a FR movie or any other kind of movie, it could cause them some problems. I think if they went with a FR movie it'd be a team of previously unknown adventurers. that'd be IMHO the best approuch It was called "D&D Movie" and not only did they use unknown characters but a non-Copyrighted at the time) Home Brew Campaign setting and a lot of Forgotten Realms fans Balked At least I listen to the Beggining of the Movie and was like "It's a Homebrew...Lets see how well the Director "DMs"") |

The only movie to actually put me to sleep. Albeit, I was like...13 or 14 at the time, and it was late, but still... |
| Khaelieth01-12-08, 06:45 PM | Even Jeremy Irons couldn't save it. Tbh, he should've been playing "Simon says" games with "Johnny Comes Marching Home" playing in the background. |
| GreenKnight01-12-08, 07:44 PM | -I was in the movie theater, watching the movie, and I only saw bits and pieces of it. The only movie to actually put me to sleep. Albeit, I was like...13 or 14 at the time, and it was late, but still... You should've known better than to pay for that turd. I watched it on tv. Well, I TRIED watching it on tv. It was so horrid, though, that I had to keep changing channels in order to fight down the urge to vomit. Eventually it got to be to much to bear, and I changed the channel from it and didn't change it back. The only other movie that I've had the same kind of trouble watching is Batman & Robin. Those two have got to be some of the most atrocious movies in existence. I LITERALLY find watching them to be unbearable. |
| MarkusTay6301-12-08, 08:06 PM | I heard the sequal, made in some other country with mostly non-English speaking actors that were all complete unknowns blew the first one away... and it was STILL terrible. |

And, truth be told, it was one of the reasons why I got into D&D into the first place. After seeing it (and, he thought it was amazingly crappy, too), I wanted to play D&D. I already played another P&P RPG (CHILL), but this exposure to D&D made me want to play it. And thus, the legend was born... I heard the sequal, made in some other country with mostly non-English speaking actors that were all complete unknowns blew the first one away... and it was STILL terrible. -Eh? The one that was on the Sci-Fi chanel? -I only saw bits and pieces of that one, but, yes, it was better. But, it's not hard to be better... |
| GoldDragon01-13-08, 09:17 AM | Dont pokemon have a vocabulary limited to their names? Actually they speak a Alien Language that is subtitled in the original series, but when translated to English that repeating their name over and over was a cheap translation trick |
| GoldDragon01-13-08, 09:30 AM | I've only seen bits and pieces of that movie at a time, but I've seen enough to know that I'd never play in his home game. <snicker> As a B movie buff of movies like Conan the Barbarian (wit ahnold), the Beast Master, 13th warrior, Willow, Red Sonya, and the Like....I actually liked the movie itself but 2 of the obvious errors was 1) Characters know nothing of Levels so the "You're a Low level Mage" crack made me laugh and 2) I wanted to see the beholder in action and it was lame how the rest of the main characters party was keep on getting left behind (definitely would start bickering on how come someone is of more importance then another) Watch the Second Movie and the Story had more party interaction but again everyone but the main character "went down for the count" (to ease writing?) for the last sequence and the "Drag Queen" Curst guy was the main baddie in this one too (Didn't know wearing blue lipstick made you a "Curst") |
| Lord Karsus01-13-08, 02:00 PM | (Didn't know wearing blue lipstick made you a "Curst") -Of course. |
| MarkusTay6301-13-08, 02:10 PM | Lipstick is one of the biggest sellers in the Underdark's chain of Monster Supply Shops :P Back to Pokemon - One thing I didn't get from the cartoons is where all of the normal animals are? My kids tried to explain to me that in the Pokemon universe, the Pokemon take the place of the regular animals... but doesn't that mean that people EAT Pokemon? :mymy: Even if they are all vegetarians, there are still hundreds of those gawd-awful Plant Pokemon in danger! So, since Pokemon can speak, and are obviously an intelligent species (sort of), that means that Ash and Company (along with everyone else on Earth-P) must be CANNIBALS!!! |

| MarkusTay6301-13-08, 02:44 PM | I would SO eat Pikachu... |
| Lord Karsus01-13-08, 02:50 PM | -I bet it wouldn't enjoy that. |
| Sol_Odlanier01-13-08, 03:07 PM | I would SO eat Pikachu... "I'm sohungry I can eat a ponyta" :P |
| Suin Bahhar01-13-08, 04:54 PM | The second D&D movie had a great character in it. A stunning and tall hungarian type barbarian warrior princess wielding a greatsword with a feisty attitude. |
| The_Shaman01-13-08, 07:10 PM | That's kinda cliche'd though. Now, if said princess was Indian (as in from India) and painfully shy in addition to being a greatsword-wielding berserker, that would be a rather novel character. "Er, I apologize for the intrusion, but would you be the Blackstone orc tribe?" "Yurgh. What do you want, rose-stinking human?" "Erm, we've kinda been... hired to kill you all." ((wriggles fingers apologetically, unsheathes a Gatts-style fullblade and charges the orc with a fierce warcry of Sorry!)) Now let me tell you, I'd give a woman like that a wide berth. Wider, in fact, than I'd give any other greatsword-toting berserkress. |
| GoldDragon01-13-08, 09:47 PM | Maybe because the Harry's girl was Ron's sister? :mymy: Shhhh!!!! The movie series hasn't caught up to the fact that the "damsel in distress" he rescued from the Chamber of Secrets is his future wife, though Ron has already complained about how irritating that she was going on and on about Harry (not realix\zing his sister has a crush on Harry) The Movies Series most recent release. Order of the Phoenix did catch her not being to pleased with Harry going off to talk to his love interest or Hermione's comment of what's her face not being able to take her eyes off him...lol |
| Khaelieth01-13-08, 10:04 PM | Yeah, why did Ron get the hotty, and Harry get the ugly chick? Other way around! I'm one of those strange people that prefers gingers! |
