FR Campaign Setting Book Is Freaking Me Out... [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-09-06, 07:34 AM I'm a DM, and I'm interested in having a campaign with Forgotten Realms in it. But the FR Campaign Setting book was printed before 3.5. I looked under Errata for the book and it said that all of the 3.5 updates were included into the second printing.

So, here's the question--If I buy the book from a real company (not like EBay sellers), would I get the 2nd printing or would I get the 1st printing that needs changes? Do they even print the 1st edition of this book anymore? :confused: It's drving me crazy so please help if you can.

08-09-06, 10:42 AM It's worse than that; you'll also want to get the Player's Guide to Faerun, because there were a lot of updates to the content (non-game-mechanical stuff) in that book. Do the different editions have different ISBN numbers?

08-09-06, 09:10 PM -I don't think that A Player's Guide to Faerūn is that neccesary.

08-10-06, 03:50 AM Mainly the Player's Guide to Faerūn updates PrCs, spells, brings in new magic items, etc. and mainly those of the Magic of Faerūn book. The FRCS is still extremely valid and a good book. I use it constantly. After all, it has very few spells, or PrCs, or other things that need rule updates. It's strengths are in the description of the world, how it looks, feel, and works.

The Errata's exact wording...
"These corrections are being incorporated into the 2nd printing of the book."

But this, as far as I know, has not happened, nor have I heard rumers on it being planed.
(also realize, I'm just avarage joe off the street, not someone that works for WotC)
So by my guess, chances are if you order the book from anywhere it will be from the first printing.
Besides, that Errata was done durring 3.0 time and does not represent any 3.5 updates.
So, updateing to 3.5 would have to be done regardless. (but it's not that hard or that much)

They should be able to tell you what they have in invetory. Normally on the copyright page it will indicate if a publication is first, second, 900th printing or whatever. If a paperback (yeah, like we'll ever get the rulebooks in paperback editions) it will list the original publication date in hardcover as well as which edition the paperback printing is (some first edition paperbacks are collectible)

Oh, and as of June, PHB is in paperback on the Player's kit with other stuff in the pack. (Dice too, yeah, like any of us need any more!)

They also announced the DM's kit w/ DMG.
