Gulam 09-25-03, 06:00 AM	I dont know if that was already mentioned in this boards, but from the discription of the Player guide, the epic lvl play will be optional only. This means the epic lvl play, including epic magic and items, will NOT be canon (yeah...iraclea spells and hurrupack sword are not canon).i wonder if elven high magic will be made optional also... Do you think WOTC is right in making epic optional only ?? Your comments

Anything not in the core books should be optional, because players and DM´s should not have to buy books in order to be able to use other books. I know they gave us a little bit of epic in the revised DMG; but that´s not nearly enough to make it standard. That said, I think epic level play really rocks :cool:

Example: The connection between different worlds through the Plane of Shadow is only optional (see MotP and MotP FAQ) and neither used in standard D&D nor in the FR setting. Thus it's non-canon and a connection between the worlds does not exist as far as official canon is concerned, although every DM is free to change this for his own campaign if he wants to.
Cunning Linguist 09-25-03, 08:59 AM	No, I feel that is wrong, Epic Levels are in the Core books now after 3.5, and FR should deal with that instead of just putting it in as a option. And with all the epic NPCs in FR I feel it’s even more necessary to deal with it.
ElGrecoETAC 09-25-03, 09:11 AM	I still don't see what would be so darn hard about WotC throwing in a smaller-text paragraph showing the Epic stats AFTER the standard NPC/item description. Even after all the Chosen and baddies described in the FRCS, you're talking about maybe a couple of extra pages of stats. What's the big deal? :rolleyes:
Damador 09-25-03, 11:20 AM	FRCS was released BEFORE epiclvl handbook and in 3,5 DMG there are some rules for them many great personalities in faerun are epic ... all goods also are epics ... Toriel is a land full of epic things ;p
ElGrecoETAC 09-25-03, 11:40 AM	Which is great, but it still completely overlooks the fact that future FR material WILL ESCHEW Epic Rules. I don't ask that FR material go Epic ONLY--simply that said books include supplementary material that provide stats for the minute fraction of Epic stuff you would or might find in them. Most of the Epic NPCs are ALREADY described in the Epic Level Handbook... not that much space would be needed in new FR books! What's the excuse for not making life easier for those of us who DO like an Epic feel in the Realms?

They use the epic BAB and save progression and have mor than 20 total levels. But still they aren't truly epic. None of the gods has more than 20 levels in a class (or more than 10 levels in a PrC) and none of the gods has even a single epic feat. While elven highmages are able to cast epic spells, Corellon Larehtian, their own deity of magic and creator of elven highmagic is not able to cast this magic himself.
Alac Luin 09-25-03, 01:14 PM	Maybe I’m wrong, but I always felt epic play was always optional. More importantly, to myself that is, the tradition that characters should retire / semi retire at 20th level. Considering I have yet to be involved in a 3/3.5 ed campaign bringing characters to that level I’m not sure if it’s as necessary as it used to be. Just looking at the rules/major NPCs/available monsters, it does appear that 20th level is a bit much, after that it’s like “why” NOTE: I have never looked inside the ELH.
