| muraug09-22-03, 02:31 AM | Iīm player from Spain, and now, in my country, is starting the new 3.5 edition. I have a lot of books of the last version, and I was wondering if the magic of faerum, forgotten realms compendium, lord of darkness, sword and fist... works on the new edition (Iīve seen a lots of feats that changes for example), or I have to buy all again. I have found "D&D v.3.5 Accessory Update Booklet", but there are nothing about the FR books ... Does an update book exist for the other? Thanks a lot for the answers |
| Conan09-22-03, 04:05 AM | None of the books, except the 3 core books, will be reprinted in 3.5 format. If it was printed in 3 don't expect a new version till 4ed, whenever that may rain down upon us all. There is no conversion manual for any of the FR books from 3 AFAIK. Most of them don't need much conversion though as the FR books tended to be more description than hard rules. The class supplement books (Sword & Fist, Defender of the Faith etc.) are another matter. They are all still useable and valid though. Just make sure you check anything stated in the supplements with what's in the core books logic-wise. If you want to look at the rules of 3.5 before you commit to anything then there is always the SRD3.5 (http://www.wizards.com/D20/article.asp?x=srd35). No "Fluff" components, but otherwise it's all the rules from the 3.5 core books. |

| Conan09-22-03, 04:53 AM | Originally posted by Dargoth The Upcoming Players guide to Faerun will update the existing 3.0 FR Products Oh yeah. There's that too. But there's not really that much to update in the FR books. Unless you're trying to update all the NPC stats etc. Most of the rest of it is fairly instinctual really. Oh and Dargoth I know it's a fair while ago now, but you really should be hitting Rich Baker up for that commission cheque. 3.5 PHB, DMG and MM just could not be resisted. I hate you and all those who force me to buy kewl books. :smirk: |

| muraug09-22-03, 07:05 AM | Thanks a lot for yours answer!! But in the FRīs books thera are spells, feats, prestige classes... that changes or will be change in the new edition, for example: the greater spell focus. And happend with the other feats, that in the new editon are more powerfulls, as great spell thrower (I suppose that itīs her name in english ;) ).They will sell a new book (as said Dargoth)... they are very clever... And what happend with the other books, there will be a revision for Sword and fist, song and silence, book of the vile darkness...? |

| Conan09-22-03, 07:51 AM | Originally posted by muraug Thanks a lot for yours answer!! No problems. Glad to help. And happend with the other feats, that in the new editon are more powerfulls, as great spell thrower (I suppose that itīs her name in english ;) ). If there is a spell, feat or PrC in an FR book that has a revision in the 3.5 core rulebooks then the 3.5 version overules the previously published material. Otherwise, you use the FR spell, feat or PrC as is in the FR books, unless you think there is any modifications that need to be made because of core rule changes. In which case you Rule 0 it. They will sell a new book (as said Dargoth)... they are very clever... Yes they are bringing out a new book that explains the FR specific changes not already covered in the core rule revisions. However, I don't believe it was there original intent to just cash in, by making a book that all FR people would need to buy to become 3.5 complient. For instance there is plenty of new material in the PGtF as in new PrC's, spells etc. And what happend with the other books, there will be a revision for Sword and fist, song and silence, book of the vile darkness...? No. There is no plan to re-release 3.5 versions of these, or any other, previously published books. If you want to use them in a 3.5 game then you have to do the conversions yourself, for what hasn't been covered by other 3.5 releases. Most of it isn't that hard anyway. There will always be new 3.5 books being published that may revise sections of previously published materials, but not whole books dedicated to this purpose. At least this is my understanding of events to date. Hope that helps muraug. |
